Work

The camp is designed as a space for socializing, mutual communication, and the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities alongside volunteers from the general population, who come from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Volunteers will work at the "Oasis," engaging in everyday activities with the users of the facility. The main activities will include tasks that the users typically perform in their daily lives, such as: Maintenance and organization of the living and working spaces Tidying up the yard and plot Pulling weeds (not the kind you're thinking of, hehe) and working in the garden (planting, hoeing, watering, crop care, and harvesting) Sorting fruits and vegetables for various purposes: feeding camp members, distributing to socially disadvantaged individuals in the local community, feeding livestock, and creating compost Feeding animals and maintaining their living spaces Emptying recycling containers with PET packaging, pressing the packaging Visiting vulnerable families in the local community Additionally, a portion of the camp will focus on the artistic decoration of the wall in the garden, allowing for creative expression.

Partner

The association "Living Together" was founded in 1997 by a group of parents with the goal of improving the quality of life for their children with intellectual disabilities, their families, and the entire social community. With extensive experience in working with people with disabilities, the association organizes various events to promote inclusion. The mission of the Association is to make people with developmental disabilities visible, active, and present in all areas of social life. They aim to affirm the abilities and individuality of people with disabilities, promote their rights, and enable them to live a dignified and fulfilling life. The association values equality, equal opportunities, commitment, tolerance, solidarity, and the continuous education of all members. Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS), founded in 1976, focuses on environmental protection, education, sustainable development, and working with youth in an international context. YRS promotes scientific creativity, voluntarism, and its values. Voluntary Service of Serbia, a volunteer exchange service center founded in 1990, operates as one of the sectors of YRS.

Location

The camp will take place in Golubinci, a village/town located in the municipality of Stara Pazova, just 8 km away from the town center. Stara Pazova has a population of around 5,000 people and is a multicultural environment. While the majority of the population follows the Orthodox faith, there is also a significant Catholic presence. In the town center, you will find Orthodox and Catholic churches, a supermarket, a post office, a school, a kindergarten, a health center, and several cafes. One of the most interesting features of the area is the Schloss castle, dating back to the 18th century. It is surrounded by tales of curses, infidelities, and punishments. The castle holds historical and architectural significance as it was visited by notable figures such as Karađorđe Petrović (leader of the First Serbian Uprising) and composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Throughout the year, various local events and festivals take place in Stara Pazova, including the Cat Festival (with a masquerade ball and carnival), Days of Rosemary, and Earth Day. During the volunteers' stay, the town will be celebrating Petrovdan – the local holiday, during which numerous outdoor activities and a fair will be held, enjoyed by all the locals. Stara Pazova is well-connected to major cultural hubs, with Novi Sad and Belgrade easily accessible by train (just 20 minutes away). So, trips to these beautiful cities can be organized with ease. We simply recommend that you bring patience and a smile, and it will surely be a memorable adventure!

Accomodation

Camp Oasis Golubinci brings together people of goodwill who are ready to offer support and assistance in both the lives and work of adults with developmental disabilities. Oasis Golubinci is a living and working community for people with disabilities, and it provides accommodation for both volunteers and users within the Oasis itself. Volunteers will be housed in well-equipped houses that include all necessary amenities, such as an adequate number of bathrooms, kitchens, and dining areas. Accommodation will be in double or triple rooms. All houses/accommodation units are located in the same yard, fostering a close-knit environment, though volunteers may stay in separate houses. There are four different kitchens on the premises, where volunteers will take part in food preparation. The association will provide the necessary food based on available resources. Bedding will be provided to all volunteers during their stay.

Requirements

There are no specific requirements, but if you want to make your life easier, prepare adequate clothes, a good mosquito repellent and shoes for working outside.

Meeting point

The more on the meeting point will be provided in the Infosheet.

Work

The main goal of this camp will be that volunteers make the village move, but also that they learn a lot about local cultures (because it is in plural). Some of the tasks will be: renovation of the mural at the bus station, help to make the local Youth center prettier, cleaning the garbage on boats from the canal, painting the kids' playground, make sports' terrains look more representative, watering the trees maybe even with the firetruck, supporting the organizers of the festival "PactON"...

Partner

Pact Ruthenorum is a local organization dedicated to promotion of Rusyn's culture (ethnic Eastern-Slavic minority in South-Slavic Serbia; more on that nobody knows, that is why this project is important, haha). It is founded in 2004. with the mission to connect people all over the region and even all over the world. With that aim, they organized numerous festivals (mostly musical or traditional with the cultural topics) and workcamps. Its main focuses are music, nature and socializing. Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS) was founded in 1976. Our main aims are environmental protection and education, promotion of sustainable development, work with young people in an international context, promotion of scientific creativity and voluntarism and its values. Voluntary Service of Serbia is a volunteer exchange service center founded in 1990 as one of the sectors of YRS.

Location

Ruski Krstur is a village in the Kula municipality in the Sombor department of Vojvodina province. It has 3000 inhabitants approximately and majority of them are Rusyns (less-known Eastern-Slavic minority that we mentioned previously). It lays on the Small Backa canal (very important one for fertile lands all around the village). Free time will be spent in nature, walking and riding bicycles, swimming in the pool, meeting locals (hosts really care about this part). Also, some excursion to the interesting surroundings might be easily organized! Try to bring a positive attitude, meeting people from other cultures of this international village is really important to the host.

Accomodation

Volunteers will be accommodated in the local sports' hall, on the mattresses (bedding will be provided, but if you insist you can bring your own, hehe). The kitchen will be in the near Fire department (many associations cooperate closely in this interesting village). Food will be provided sometimes (with accent on national cuisine) and sometimes it will be made by volunteers. On few occasions there can be even outdoor preparation.

Requirements

There are no special requirements (except to not forget the smile and good energy), but if you like to make your life easier, bring sunscreen, adequate clothes and mosquito repellent as it gets hot and humid during the summer.

Meeting point

From Belgrade you take the train to Novi Sad and from there you can take the bus to the village. More precise-in its time.

Work

The work will be educative and mainly focused on environmental topics. As researchers from "Vladimir Mandić Manda" have this practice going on for years now, the scheme is very-well prepared. The accent is on learning, but also on meeting between people and spending time in the lovely nature. Every day there will be at least one important lecture, that will be led by experienced members of the organization. The topics will be chosen there, having in mind practical possibilities (the goal is that volunteers find out something and then apply it next day right there, on the field). Volunteers, as well, will be invited to make their own presentations of topics they choose. There will, also, be a few workshops on bushcraft i.e. surviving in the natural environment.

Partner

From Belgrade there are numerous busses and trains to Valjevo, so it can all be organized easily. More informationS you will have in the Infosheet.

Location

For 55 years, the association of researchers "Vladimir Mandić - Manda" has been gathering young people from Valjevo and beyond who have the desire to learn something more than what they learn in school, but certainly in a much nicer way. Their goals are initiation and support in organizing educational programs for young people, popularization of scientific research work and creativity among young people, encourage young people to be active and take part in organized activities, raising awareness of the need to protect and contribute to the preservation of the environment and historical-cultural heritage in the context of sustainable development, promotion and support for the development of volunteerism as well as contribution to solving problems in the local community, better understanding of peoples and cultures, friendship and peace, creating conditions for improving the position of young people and implementing youth initiatives, as well as advocating for adequate verification and affirmation of results achieved by young people.

Accomodation

Volunteers will be accommodated on the field in front of the mountaineer house (that has a bathroom). They will sleep in tents, on mats, which will be provided for them, but it is preferable to bring your own sleeping bag (if it can't be, we will provide them, don't worry). The tents will be for two, three and four people, but one gigantic tent for ten people will also be brought, so you can admire its grandiosity. Of course, volunteers that want to arrive with their own camping gear which includes all of the above, are very welcome, as well. In the house, there is a kitchen where every day three or four people (or more, it will be one big group) will be in charge of preparing, setting up and serving meals from ingredients that will be provided. They will certainly not do it alone, but with the support of camp leaders and researchers.

Requirements

There are no specific requirements, really.

Work

During the camp volunteers will do many different activities, from planting an alley of flowers and mowing the lawns, to sanding and painting wooden sculptures in the local park, then prepare the ground for the new statue in the Memorial Park. In the landscape house, for wooden objects protective material will be used in order to preserve the texture. If time allows, there will be a space to create new totems and put them in the park. Also, this year the volunteers will help in making of 5m high vantage point.

Partner

The Association Sabo Denes works in the field of culture, youth and tourism. Particularly, they are aiming to share interculturalism within youth in the area, organize charity actions and nature conservation.

Location

Totovo Selo is a picturesque village with almost completely Hungarian population in the Kanjiža municipality, in the North Banat District, Vojvodina province. It is surrounded by natural beauty with beautiful fields and friendly hosts. Settlement was founded at the end of the 19th century. The name "Totovo Selo" (literally- Tot's village) comes from Tót József, at that time (at the threshold of the 20th century) wealthy local landlord, who donated 72 houses without any compensation dividing his property among his wage-earners and workers. One of the most interesting attractions there is the model of the Danube, which is built together with the former participants of the camp. In the village there are 5 parks, a barn, an autochthonous Hungarian breed of sheep and a farmhouse. In the village, there are few festivals that are organized every year (a kettle and brandy festival, a festival of folk customs, to mention just those...). Few excursions to the surrounding places and towns will be organized (including going to the beach at river Tisa). Please bring a positive attitude, meeting people from other cultures of this Serbian-Hungarian village is really important to the host.

Accomodation

The accommodation will be in a local boarding house in rooms with 2-5 beds and a bathroom. Bedding is provided. Meals are provided in the dining hall of the local centre, 3 times a day. Also, the dinners will be made with the help of everyone in the courtyard of the boarding house, with local traditional food. Keep in mind that there might probably be a very limited internet connection, but we will see what can be done to use it from the locals without their permission (no, no, we will try to find alternatives, don't worry).

Requirements

No specific requirements needed, but if you want to have your life easier bring sunscreen, adequate clothes and mosquito repellent as it gets hot and humid during the summer.

Meeting point

Subotica is the biggest city nearby. From there, the local buses and the trains go to Totovo selo. Details about the schedules of the means of transport will be put in the Infosheet.

Work

Since the school is considered a hub for many important activities, it is also noteworthy that various local organizations have strong connections with it. This will be the case here as well. Since the project can only be defined by three areas on this platform, we cannot describe everything that will take place, but we can elaborate further here. Volunteers will undertake numerous tasks in cooperation with different associations in Požega. With social organizations, decisions will be made about which families require additional support, allowing volunteers to assist those in need with their regular activities. Volunteers will also visit the local association for people with cerebral paralysis, where they will provide help and conduct workshops. Additionally, they will participate in activities at the local Gerontological Center, where they will assist in taking care of the garden and meet elderly people who will be happy to interact with the guests. Moreover, there will be tasks to perform in the school’s yard, such as picking raspberries (one of Serbia's national fruits) and blackberries (another popular fruit in the country). Serbia is indeed a land of fruits. Volunteers will also be involved in planting seeds, removing unwanted plants, and feeding the animals—just a few of the planned activities during their stay in this beautiful location.

Partner

Agricultural high school is founded in 1956. and from that moment it works constantly with youth on important topic like the producing food is. The school is regional center and it offers many opportunities for those who need to obtain certain knowledges in the field of plant and animal treatments. Since 2002. it aims to modernize its methods, so that is why they try to participate in many different projects, in order to give to the local youth wider perspectives on life.

Location

Požega is a charming town located in the nature-rich region of Western Serbia. The town center offers a lively atmosphere, especially during the summer, where volunteers can experience the local vibe. However, the school is situated a little outside the center, surrounded by parks, providing a peaceful environment where volunteers can relax during their free time. The school has sports fields for recreational activities, and the town features a swimming pool, which could be a great way to spend some hot days. There are also opportunities for excursions in the area, with more details available in the Infosheet. The only advice we have for this adventure is to bring patience and a smile – it will surely make for an unforgettable and pleasant experience!

Accomodation

The volunteers will be accommodated in the school dormitory, where they will stay in rooms with 2-3 beds and a bathroom (essentially resembling a 3-star hotel). Linen will be provided for their stay. Food will be prepared collectively in the kitchen of the dormitory. Several workshops will be organized to teach the volunteers how to make traditional Serbian meals.

Requirements

There are no specific requirements, but if you want to make your life easier, bring sunscreen, adequate clothes and mosquito repellent as it gets hot and humid during the summer in Serbia.

Meeting point

The meeting point will be cited in the Infosheet.
