Extra-Fee:0

Age:18+

31/07/2025 - 21/08/2025

Work

You will have the honor of being the first international volunteers to enter this building, which has been partially closed to the public for many years. Under the supervision of a specialized technical instructor, you will begin by removing the wall plaster. You will then clear out the old mortar and repoint the stones to highlight their beauty. This will be a great opportunity to learn traditional masonry techniques, as well as ceiling work and insulation installation. Bring appropriate work clothing, as it may get dirty. Safety equipment will be provided, and no prior qualifications are required. You will work approximately 4 to 5 hours per day.

Partner

Dive into the history of the Île d'Oléron by participating in the renovation of a 16th-century seigneurial estate! Every stone has a story to tell. Just outside the town, you'll find the grand estate of La Cailletière, owned by the commune since 2008. In the 16th century, it was a seigneurial residence consisting of a large manor house with several rooms on the ground floor and first floors, a bordier's dwelling (laborer’s house), and included wine cellars, distilleries, livestock and poultry parks. The commune of Dolus d'Oléron aims to open this space to the public and wishes to add an international dimension by hosting this project with La Maison des Bateleurs.

Location

On the Île d'Oléron, you can enjoy many water activities, such as fishing and surfing with local clubs. The beach, bike rides along the coast, beach volleyball, and other pleasures await you. You can also visit cities like La Rochelle and Rochefort. Activities and outings will be organized with the local population and especially with youth organisations. Leisure time will encourage meeting the locals who are eagerly awaiting you!

Accomodation

Accommodation will be in one or two-person tents at the René Roux sports complex, where you will have exclusive access to the locker rooms for showers. You must bring your warm sleeping bag and a pillow; we provide inflatable mattresses. Food will be provided for all meals, with a budget managed collectively by the group and the facilitators. In turn, you will prepare meals, prioritizing local resources and respecting everyone's dietary regimes (hot and cold dishes, vegetarian, and vegan).

Meeting point

You have an appointment at the René Roux sports complex (Iléo stop, accessible with the summer shuttle) on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 5 pm. Take the bus (line 155) to the Île d'Oléron, then one of the summer shuttles will take you to the "Iléo" stop. The final route and schedules will be communicated as soon as we know both in the roadmap and the WhatsApp group dedicated to this trip.

Also there will be an audio workshop based on the impressions of the sight. Work part: Various maintenance works in the exterior of the memorial and the collections.

Partner

The former women's concentration camp Ravensbrück was built in 1939 near the small town of Fürstenberg/Havel. Until its liberation in April 1945, over 120,000 women and children, 20,000 men and 1,000 underage young women from the so-called "Uckermark Youth Protection Camp" were imprisoned there. The prisoners came from more than 40 nations. They had to perform forced labor in various sectors, e.g. for SS factories or the Siemens company. Their daily lives were marked by hunger, mistreatment and poor hygienic conditions. Tens of thousands of prisoners were killed. Today, the Ravensbrück Memorial preserves traces and records, promotes remembering and research, and creates a place for active learning and encounters. Every year, international work camps are organized in cooperation with the memorial. www.ravensbrueck-sbg.de

Number of volunteers:15

Language:English

Extra-Fee:0

Age:14-17

01/08/2025 - 15/08/2025

Work

The purpose of this work camp is to participate in the recovery of old paths and learn the history of the Pyrenees, learn about culture and nature, and participate in both with different activities of preservation and conservation. The technical work that will be carried out in the field of work consists, in general, in different tasks related to the recovery of the old roads of the valley. The followings are the main ones: - Road clearing: mowing grass, bushes, etc., which grow in the spring to leave the roads comfortably passable on foot. - Remove stones from the road: pick up stones that have fallen on the road and set them aside in an orderly manner at the edges to make the passage passable. - Rebuild the simplest sections of dry stone wall: rebuild those walls that have fallen and are easily rebuildable. - Improved signage with paint: review the tracking marks of the paths with paint according to the instructions given to us by the "Alt Pirineu" Natural Park. - Improved paved sections: some trails have cobbled sections that have worn out, redo these sections in order to maintain the cobbled areas.

Partner

The organization in charge of the work camp is "Balmes Blancs", a non-profit association created in 2010 with the aim of offering unique activities in nature with the aim of presenting new places, new people and deepening, thus, the knowledge of the Catalan territory.  Since its inception, it has organized various activities such as snowshoe outings with animal footprints, astronomical discoveries, kayak outings to discover marine fauna, rafting drops, hiking in the mountains, or leveling and safety workshops, among others.  In 2013 the association began working in the Siarb Valley. From that moment on, Balmes Blancs began to focus its activities around this valley and, among other things, guided visits to the "Despoblat de Santa Creu" de Llagunes, visits to the trenches on the Pallars front and to the Vilamur bunkers, discoveries of geology, and activities of flora and fauna in the environment.  At the same time, the refuge promotes hiking with the creation of signposted routes around Llagunes, as well as a series of actions aimed at recovering the heritage of the Siarb Valley and discovering life rural in Pallars Sobirà, and in the rest of the Pyrenees.

Location

The work camp is done in a calm and peaceful area of the Catalan Pyrenees called “Vall de Siarb”. This place is located inside one of the natural Park in Catalonia (Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu) and the village belongs to Soriguera municipality. For more information about this part of the Pyrenees you can visit the web site: http://parcsnaturals.gencat.cat/en/alt-pirineu/index.html Some leisure activities: - Talk by the members of the Parc de l'Alt Pirineu about the trails and paths and the biodiversity of the Park. - Visit to the bunkers: visit to the Civil War bunkers in the Coll de Sant Joan, about 4 km from the camp. The context of the Civil War and the specific situation of Pallars Sobirà and the Vall de Siarb will be explained. - Visit to the Despoblat de Santa Creu de Llagunes: guided visit to the medieval Despoblat where we can see the strategic location of the town, its function during the medieval period and why the wall, the watchtowers. - Thematic tour of the mills: circular itinerary of the mills, where you can see the remains of two flour mills and a hydroelectric power plant that supplied electricity to several villages in the Vall de Siarb. - Itinerary of Tornafort: circular excursion that will allow us to get to know the paths of the surroundings visiting the picturesque town of Tornafort. - Vilamur itinerary: circular excursion that will take us from the land to the village of Vilamur, then towards Soriguera, and following the river we will return to the camp. - Orientation activity: the group will be divided into different teams and based on a series of clues related to the environment they will have to decipher an enigma or map. This dynamic enhances group cohesion and organization, agility and skills.

Accomodation

The accommodation is in a terrain called "La Solana, near the village of Vilamur. It's a camping area in the middle of nature, so you should definitely be eager to have a (somehow) wild experience! Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/z9WX5boUgCdoEsdf6 You’ll be spending your days at a campsite, and you’ll be camping and sleeping in a tent; usually there are 4 participants per tent and no separation to gender. Tents are basic; mainly, there’s only space for sleeping or laying down. Tents will be provided by the organization, and you’ll be sleeping on a mattress on the floor. You must bring your own sleeping bag (it’s highly recommended a good one as in the Pyrenees it can be cold at nights even in summer) and mattress. There is 1 dry toilet near the campsite and 1 shower available in the camp with cold water (we strongly recommend bringing eco- and biodegradable shower gel or shampoo). No gender separation for showers; previous agreements will be done with the group. The volunteers are in charge of cooking and keeping the area clean and safe: they will be split in groups, each group will prepare the food for one day, and they will be rotating every day, so camping in the field and cooking by their own. In general, lunch and dinner will be warm meals, but exceptions can be made in case of a trekking route or spending the whole day out of the campsite. There’s no Wi-Fi at the campsite. However, there's mobile phone signal in the area, so you should be able to connect to 3G almost everywhere. There is the possibility to charge the phones in the village of Vilamur.

Requirements

This work camp is not accessible for volunteers with high reduce mobility or wheelchairs.

Work

Kids in Action is an English-teaching workcamp designed to provide local children and teenagers with a fun and engaging language-learning experience outside the traditional classroom setting. Volunteers will play an active role in co-creating and leading workshops in English for a group of approximately 30 local participants. Together, volunteers will design games, activities, and interactive sessions that encourage children to use and practice English in a natural, playful environment. The goal is to create a space where language learning happens organically—through creativity, play, and meaningful interaction. This workcamp is not just about language; it's about cross-cultural exchange and building connections. Through workshops, sports, games, outdoor activities, group discussions, and excursions, volunteers will help foster a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere where kids can explore both the English language and other cultures. While Spanish language skills are a plus, they are not required—enthusiasm, creativity, and a willingness to connect are what truly matter. Volunteers will work approximately 6 hours per day, Monday to Friday. In the mornings (around 09:00–13:00), they will spend time directly with the children, facilitating activities. In the afternoons, the team will come together to plan and prepare the next day's sessions collaboratively.

Town hall of Riaño

Location

The town of Riaño is located in the heart of the Cantabrian Mountains in the historic Montaña de Riaño region. A fairly extensive space that has been protected under the figure of the Montaña de Riaño y Mampodre Regional Park, the prelude to the well-known Picos de Europa National Park. An impressive natural space covered by the dammed waters of the Esla and Yuso rivers. Riaño has been a municipality marked by the great environmental catastrophe caused by the construction of the reservoir. Although Riaño did not completely disappear, a large part of the old town remains submerged. In spite of everything, it has many incentives to dedicate an in-depth visit to it to see the uniqueness and beauty of the area. There is a Hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Rosario next to which rests the so-called most beautiful bench in León because of this natural viewpoint. The visit will then take us along the so-called Paseo del Recuerdo. A one kilometer long pedestrian path that runs along the edge of the swamp. The most beautiful viewpoint are outside the village: Las Hazas viewpoint and the Valcayo viewpoint. It is a very short and spectacular road. One of the best panoramic views in the area. There are many hiking trails that can be done in the area, but one of the most emblematic is the ascent to Pico Gilbo (1679 meters). It´s also recommended the ascent to Pico Yordás. The views are also wonderful but the slope is somewhat greater. And, finally, you have another of the most mythical ascents at the top of Peñas Pintas. Same, although it lacks great technical difficulties, the route requires quite a bit of effort. The privileged situation of Riaño makes it a fantastic point from which to make wonderful excursions in the surrounding area: Macizo de Mampodre y Valle de Valdeburón, Lois y la catedral de la Montaña, Valle de Sajambre y otros.

Accomodation

The accommodation will be done in the public school with several rooms. There will be bathrooms facilities and a kitchen where the volunteers can cook in team. The accommodation will be very basic. Sleeping bag is required.

Requirements

Criminal Record is required and knowledge of Spanish language is valuable.

Meeting point

Meeting Point: León Train Station (Estación de León-ADIF) at 16:00 The closest airport is Oviedo (OVD) Airport. Volunteers have to take a train from Oviedo to León. OVD airport is not well connected. There is also options to arrive to Madrid Barajas Airport and take a train or bus to León or arrive to Bilbao airport and again take a bus to Léon.

Work

The volunteers will prepare and finalize the programme in the first days. Each day, a four hours workshop/activities will be given and organized for kids in the morning. The volunteers will have many facilities and a park to do the activities with children. It is well known that people in Spain don´t have a good level of English, even though it is studied at school for more than 9 years. That´s why the participants are really asked to try their best if they speak Spanish to communicate with locals. Simultaneously, the workshops will try to teach other values such as the respect for the environment and promote the culture of peace. A good atmosphere will be the key for workcamps in future! Volunteers will be asked to take initiative, to “create” the workcamp, to leave a memory in Jodar.

Partner

Guardabosques and De Amicitia works in collaboration in order to support Summer Camps with various English workshops. English language is the pending subject of Spain.

Location

Jodar is a village located close to Jaen. The main economic activity is agriculture and it is surrounded by the Natural Park of Sierra Magina which is a natural area with the high-quality landscape, pure and nearly virgin. Volunteers will have excellent possibilities to visit Cordoba/Granada or Seville and other spots like Jaén (Arabic baths and cathedral), Ubeda and Baeza. There is also a chance of doing a hiking route through the Serrezuela and the Sierra Magina and even to have a parapente experience in Pegalajar. In a workcamp we also dedicate some time to a study part. It is an activity of non-formal learning, where you can gain new knowledge or form new opinions on different problems; all this is done in a relaxed and entertaining way. The intercultural evening is a good way of intercultural learning. In every camp there is one evening, when all participants present their country in a relaxed way – making presentation, watching photos, telling stories, tasting typical dishes, drinks and sweets, dances etc. Please, have this evening in your mind while preparing your luggage to share a piece of your culture with the rest of volunteers. The volunteers will have access to the local swimming pool of the town and will be able to enjoy their free times in the poolside. As the local transportation is not very well connected, it is not easy to organize some trips to the big cities but depending on the volunteers, it could be possible to organize some trips to Malaga, Sevilla or Granada in the weekends. Keep in mind that De Amicitia is not financing your leisure time activities.

Accomodation

At local high school. The living conditions are basic, please bring a sleeping bag. Mats will be available but please check with us first! The center is equipped with showers and toilets. The volunteers are meant to prepare their breakfast, lunch and dinner, although last year we got a professional cook and we hope this year we will have the same “luxury”. This project will include a one day only vegan food day agreed by volunteers for the promotion of environmental sustainable lifestyle.

Location

Crémenes is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of León, in the autonomous region of Castilla y León. It has a population of 530 inhabitants (INE 2023). The largest portion of the township belongs to the Picos de Europa Regional Park, where the largest number of Vadinian tombstones have been found (eleven in total). Some authors believe that Vadinia, an important Celtic city frequently mentioned by historians and geographers during the Cantabrian-Roman wars, may have been located here. La Corona, a hilltop next to the village, indicates a possible settlement of Roman origin. The village has several hiking trails leading to neighbouring municipalities of great scenic value. Also of note is the Sabinar de Crémenes, one of the most westerly in Europe. Other mountain activities such as canoeing, cycling, hunting and fishing are also available in the area. In recent years, some special spots have been set up for observing and photographing wild animals. Crémenes is a destination that promises total immersion in the culture, history and nature of the mountains of León. Located in a privileged setting, this municipality offers a perfect combination of heritage, breathtaking landscapes and traditions that have endured for centuries. If you are looking for an escape from routine and direct contact with nature and history, Crémenes is undoubtedly the ideal place.

Work

You will learn how to prepare materials (lime, hemp, sand, water), mix them and apply plaster to the walls in several layers. Each phase of the work will be supervised to ensure that sur-faces are well moistened before application and that drying times are respected between coats. Your group will be divided up to carry out the various stages: preparing the mixture, applying the plaster, finishing (smoothing, texturing or adding pigments). This project will ena-ble you to develop teamwork skills and construction techniques, while applying safety prac-tices (gloves, goggles). The progress of the project will be monitored by a technical supervisor to ensure that all the work is carried out efficiently and to a high standard. 20h/week

Partner

The project involves making a natural rendering using lime and hemp. You'll learn how to pre-pare and mix materials (lime, hemp, sand and water) to apply a rendering to walls. The work will include finishing steps, such as coloring with natural pigments or smoothing surfaces for a smooth or textured appearance. You'll be actively involved in the creative process, while complying with safety instructions. The workcamp aims to raise awareness of ecological ma-terials while developing practical and creative skills. This project is part of the renovation pro-gram for the association's new home.

Location

The workcamp will take place on the REV's permanent site, a former vacation camp at an altitude of 1,200m. The site is located at the foot of Mont-Lozère (department 48) in the heart of the Cévennes. The REV took over the site in the spring of 2022 and hopes to turn it into a place of welcome, exchange and encounter. This project will be part of the transformation of the colony into a socio-cultural living space. The nearest town is Mende, with a population of 16,000. Far from the French metropolises, Lozère is nonetheless a very dynamic region. Activities in the area revolve around local festivities, concerts and unspoilt natural areas (mountains, riv-ers, forests).

Accomodation

The workcamp will take place in a particularly isolated area, where you will be accommodat-ed on the REV site in a collective tent (remember to bring your sleeping bag). You will have access to sanitary facilities close to the camp. What's more, if weather conditions deteriorate too much for camping, we'll set up a permanent camp for the duration of the bad weather. Meals will be provided by the REV and cooked in turn by the participants. On the project, it's important to know that you'll have two meat meals a week.

Meeting point

Please arrive on 01/08 between 4pm and 6pm. Génolhac train station (30450).

Work

Participating in the everyday life of the Centre, mainly giving a hand with the maintenance of the place (cooking, doing the laundry, cleaning, helping with the carpentry or gardening on a rotating basis, etc.). Personal care of residents who might need it (such as helping out to get dressed) is also a possible task, but only if you really feel prepared for doing it. An important part of your stay will be socialising with the community of the centre. The presence of international volunteers in the centre brings "fresh air" to the limited social life of its residents. They will be curious about your country and your culture. It is a good idea to bring photos, music or any material which might enable you to present yourself and where you are coming from. It will be rare for them to speak other languages than Spanish. Therefore good knowledge of it is very recommended. You have to take into account that you will be living in a therapeutic community. Following the guidelines that will be given at the beginning of the workcamp (such as those concerning timetable, punctuality, relationship among residents and volunteers, telephone calls, not smoking or drinking...) is an essential part of the therapeutic approach. BASIDA kindly requests you to do so. A team of professionals will be always there to back you up. Do not hesitate to ask them for advice. We count on your understanding and sensibility. A workshop on drugs and HIV, socio-medical approach: “Course on Comprehensive care for people in social exclusion”, is organised during the first week.

Partner

BASIDA is an NGO that provides medical and psychosocial support to HIV-positives, drug addicted people and others with special needs. Since 1990, it has opened three centres; all of them run by a multi-professional voluntary staff. One of these three centres is located in Aranjuez, a village located in Madrid County. The physical and psychological recovery as well as the social rehabilitation of Basida residents are being achieved thanks to close teamwork focused on proving to them that someone really cares for them. The Basida team tries to help those attending the centre, who for a long time have only experienced social exclusion, to regain hope and self-esteem. For more information you can take a look at BASIDA´s web page: www.basida.org. Precisely this camp has already taken place a few times. The experience has been very positive for everyone.

Location

Trips to Aranjuez (a nice historical town), Toledo and Madrid will be possible one day in the week. Though the agenda will be very busy, you will certainly have every day a bit of time for yourself and surely on Sundays. Since the residents have limited permission to leave the Centre for recreational purposes, you would prove your solidarity towards them to check with the Director when it is more convenient to leave the Centre.

Accomodation

In the Centre there are rooms with beds for the volunteers. Meals will be taken with the residents in the common dining-room. There is also an outdoor swimming-pool and other sport facilities.

They will also empower men, women, and community leaders in leadership and build the capacity of women in life skills and self-confidence. Volunteers will participate in meetings and media campaigns on women's empowerment in leadership. The work will involve energizers, group discussions, group presentations, audio-visual materials, site visits, and testimonies.

Partner

Nyamira Missionaries Cultural Development (NMCD) was founded and registered with social development in 2002 in Kenya. It consists of 137 members, including men, women, and youth, ranging from 18 to 80 years old. The organization is based in Nyaramba, Nyamira County, approximately 10 km from Nyamira town on the way to Ikonge Township. NMCD is managed by an executive committee consisting of a chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, vice secretary, treasurer, and five members. The vision of NMCD is to become the best cultural performers and handicraft makers in Kenya. Its mission is to create an environment where personal and cultural change support each other in the context of community. The organization aims to establish a successful supplier of soapstone carvings, clay, and wooden artifacts locally and internationally, gain a substantial market share in cultural performance and tourism, run an orphanage home for shelter, food, and education, empower women and youth to be self-reliant, and engage in voluntary services at both local and international levels.

Location

The project is located in Nyamira County, Kenya, an area rich in traditional Gusii cultural performances and handicrafts. The Nyamira Missionaries Center attracts local and international travelers, offering cultural dances, handmade artifacts, and self-contained accommodations for volunteers and tourists. The organization has hosted exchange programs with Burundi and Malawi and seeks new partnerships. KVDA also offers educational tours to sites such as the Maasai Mara Game Reserve at an additional cost.

Accomodation

The host community will provide a house to accommodate volunteers with basic living conditions. Volunteers are expected to adjust to local standards to gain exposure to the development challenges of the community. KVDA will provide foodstuffs, and volunteers will take turns preparing their own meals. Drinking water will be sourced from springs, and it is recommended that it be boiled or medicated before drinking. Mineral water is also available at supermarkets. The project site has electricity connection, allowing volunteers to use electric appliances.

Requirements

Confirmation of participation must be done via email at least one month before the project starts.

Meeting point

The port of entry to Kenya is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
