Volunteers will be involved in weeding and planting new vegetation in the gardens, feeding llamas and sheep by preparing and delivering their food, enhancing animal enclosures through painting and cladding shelters, mowing grass to create new spaces and building fences. They'll also help painting fences, preparing for a final outdoor cultural event, setting up tents and organizing the space. If the weather doesn't cooperate, volunteers will assist with cleaning stables and maintaining farm buildings, ensuring there's always meaningful work to be done.
The workcamp is organized in cooperation with the Local Action Group (LAG) Radbuza. LAG Radbuza aims to protect regional values such as well-preserved nature, aesthetic landscape, local culture and healthy environment; and to support citizen initiatives at the local and regional level, including support of small enterprises, housing, education, use of leisure time, etc. The main goal is to revitalize the Rochlov Castle complex by enhancing its greenery, introducing new animals, and planting vegetation. These improvements will contribute to the castle's sustainable operation while increasing its overall attractiveness. Additionally, cultivating the surrounding area will help accelerate the restoration of this historical monument. At this workcamp, you will actively contribute to the achievement of United Nation Sustainable Development Goal 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Location: Rochlov is a small traditional village in western Bohemia with only 310 inhabitants. There is a supermarket, a restaurant and a coffee-roasting plant. Phone coverage is good. Volunteers can also enjoy a campfire, have a beer together, or simply relax. There is a football field and a makeshift gym nearby. Men can participate in training with the local futsal team. Study part: Through trips and excursions to nearby towns and villages (Marianske Lazne, Utery, Cheb, Chotesov), volunteers will be introduced to West Bohemia and its rather complex history. Volunteers will also visit Pilsen and its famous brewery and museum of Pilsner Urquell.

The other building has 2 beds and a shared bathroom with a shower and a kitchen. A washing machine is also available. Wi-Fi included. Volunteers need to bring their towels. Some meals will be cooked by the volunteers themselves. Some will be prepared at a local restaurant. Volunteers can get coffee or tea from the coffee-roasting plant.

Lohra Castle, with its centuries-old architecture and vast natural surroundings, is not only a site of historical significance but also a living, functioning place that requires continuous care and attention. This workcamp offers volunteers the opportunity to actively contribute to the sustainable management of the castle, ensuring that its grounds remain accessible, welcoming, and well preserved. While this workcamp does not involve hands-on heritage conservation interventions, it plays an equally essential role in the long-term care of the site, allowing future visitors and guests to experience and appreciate Lohra Castle as a harmoniously maintained historic and natural space. Beyond the practical tasks, the workcamp offers a unique and immersive experience. When the castle closes its doors to the public in the evenings, it becomes the volunteers' home, a place where they can experience the privilege of inhabiting a medieval site. In this way, they take on the role of stewards, caring for the space as if it were their own. The experience encourages a sense of responsibility, ownership, and connection to heritage, reinforcing the idea that heritage sites thrive not only through large-scale restoration projects but also through the daily care and attention given to them by those who value their existence.
The volunteers will engage in seasonal maintenance tasks, including mowing and collecting overgrown grass, clearing organic material from public areas, and ensuring that the castle’s open spaces remain well-kept. These tasks are crucial for the aesthetic and functional upkeep of the historic ensemble, preserving the visual integrity of the castle and its surroundings. The work also extends to the general maintenance of communal spaces and halls, contributing to the overall experience of visitors who use the castle for cultural events, educational programmes, and retreats. The income generated from these activities is directly reinvested into the castle’s conservation and educational projects, meaning that the work of volunteers directly supports heritage preservation efforts, even if not through conservation itself.
Despite its historical significance, Lohra Castle was abandoned for several decades, leading to neglect and structural deterioration. In the 1990s, the site was rediscovered and revitalised through the efforts of Open Houses, which has since used the castle as a base for heritage conservation, cultural initiatives, and international collaboration. Today, it serves as a centre for hands-on restoration projects organised by Open Houses ́ daughter organisation European Heritage Volunteers, as well as training courses organised by partner educational institutions, and volunteer-driven maintenance efforts such as this workcamp, welcoming participants from across the world to engage with its unique built heritage.
Lohra Castle, located in northern Thuringia, Germany, stands as one of the region’s most representative medieval fortifications located in the vicinity of important trade routes that connected the medieval world of central Europe. Though its present form is modest, the castle continues to command a striking position within the hilly landscape near a natural reserve. With a history spanning over a thousand years, the site reflects multiple layers of architectural evolution, shaped by shifting political, economic, and social contexts over the centuries. The architectural ensemble of Lohra Castle presents a rich assortment of historical styles, with elements dating back to the 11th century. Among its most remarkable features is a Romanesque double-floored chapel from the 12th century, an exceptional structure that highlights early medieval religious architecture. Traces of medieval fortifications and towers, as well as a Renaissance-era manor house, further illustrate the site’s transformation from a medieval defensive stronghold into a more residential and agricultural complex. The projects of Open Houses are based on sustainable principles, ensuring that Lohra Castle is maintained not just as a historical monument but as a living environment where culture and nature coexist. The castle is surrounded by a vast natural protected area, making its preservation an effort that combines aspects of cultural and natural heritage conservation. Through their contributions, volunteers help safeguard the balance between history and nature, keeping Lohra Castle a welcoming place for future generations of visitors, researchers, and heritage enthusiasts.

You'll be taking part in the enhancement of local heritage around the castle and its recipe room. Working with a history enthusiast and an archaeologist, you'll be clearing the ground, clearing undergrowth, and consolidating, and then carrying out careful excavation work on these areas, which bear witness to previous centuries. The summer will be punctuated by local events where you will be invited to take part in festivities such as the ‘Saint-Amand fait son intéressant’ performing arts festival, night markets, village festivals, etc. You'll be in close contact with local volunteers to help organise these events.
Nestling in a lush green valley, the commune of St Amand de Coly lies at the heart of the Périgord Noir, an area rich in history! Made up of two former communes that decided to merge into one, we’ll be working to unite these formerly separate areas into a single one. The ruins of the abbey castle at Coly bear witness to the valley's rich past, preserving some fine architectural features (bread oven, vaulted room, etc.) and revealing some wonderful secrets. The abbey of St Amand is proof of the power of the church in this area throughout the Middle Ages. After a number of excavations at the castle, this year we have reached the layers of archaeological interest. Festivals, night markets, and village fairs will punctuate the summer. You’ll discover the welcoming nature of the local people and the charm of the countryside and heritage, as you organise your programme of activities with the other volunteers, the other groups hosted, and the organisers.
During your stay, you will have the opportunity to participate in local festivities and cultural events, to discover the region, and to organise your programme of activities with the other volunteers and the animators.
You will be welcomed at the Coly municipal stadium. Tents for two will be provided, as well as trekking foam mattresses. Remember to bring your duvet and a pillow. A covered dining area is reserved for you, with a kitchen where you can take turns preparing tasty dishes. You will prepare the menus and meals together, taking into account the season, everyone's needs, and the pleasure of sharing together."
The meeting point is Condat-le-Lardin railway station. You need to get there on 25/07 (or 12/08) between 4pm and 8pm. If you arrive the day before, you will need to arrange your own accommodation. Departure is on the last day between 9am and 12pm maximum.

The camp is designed as a space for socializing, mutual communication, and the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities alongside volunteers from the general population, who come from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Volunteers will work at the "Oasis," engaging in everyday activities with the users of the facility. The main activities will include tasks that the users typically perform in their daily lives, such as: Maintenance and organization of the living and working spaces Tidying up the yard and plot Pulling weeds (not the kind you're thinking of, hehe) and working in the garden (planting, hoeing, watering, crop care, and harvesting) Sorting fruits and vegetables for various purposes: feeding camp members, distributing to socially disadvantaged individuals in the local community, feeding livestock, and creating compost Feeding animals and maintaining their living spaces Emptying recycling containers with PET packaging, pressing the packaging Visiting vulnerable families in the local community Additionally, a portion of the camp will focus on the artistic decoration of the wall in the garden, allowing for creative expression.
The association "Living Together" was founded in 1997 by a group of parents with the goal of improving the quality of life for their children with intellectual disabilities, their families, and the entire social community. With extensive experience in working with people with disabilities, the association organizes various events to promote inclusion. The mission of the Association is to make people with developmental disabilities visible, active, and present in all areas of social life. They aim to affirm the abilities and individuality of people with disabilities, promote their rights, and enable them to live a dignified and fulfilling life. The association values equality, equal opportunities, commitment, tolerance, solidarity, and the continuous education of all members. Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS), founded in 1976, focuses on environmental protection, education, sustainable development, and working with youth in an international context. YRS promotes scientific creativity, voluntarism, and its values. Voluntary Service of Serbia, a volunteer exchange service center founded in 1990, operates as one of the sectors of YRS.
The camp will take place in Golubinci, a village/town located in the municipality of Stara Pazova, just 8 km away from the town center. Stara Pazova has a population of around 5,000 people and is a multicultural environment. While the majority of the population follows the Orthodox faith, there is also a significant Catholic presence. In the town center, you will find Orthodox and Catholic churches, a supermarket, a post office, a school, a kindergarten, a health center, and several cafes. One of the most interesting features of the area is the Schloss castle, dating back to the 18th century. It is surrounded by tales of curses, infidelities, and punishments. The castle holds historical and architectural significance as it was visited by notable figures such as Karađorđe Petrović (leader of the First Serbian Uprising) and composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Throughout the year, various local events and festivals take place in Stara Pazova, including the Cat Festival (with a masquerade ball and carnival), Days of Rosemary, and Earth Day. During the volunteers' stay, the town will be celebrating Petrovdan – the local holiday, during which numerous outdoor activities and a fair will be held, enjoyed by all the locals. Stara Pazova is well-connected to major cultural hubs, with Novi Sad and Belgrade easily accessible by train (just 20 minutes away). So, trips to these beautiful cities can be organized with ease. We simply recommend that you bring patience and a smile, and it will surely be a memorable adventure!
Camp Oasis Golubinci brings together people of goodwill who are ready to offer support and assistance in both the lives and work of adults with developmental disabilities. Oasis Golubinci is a living and working community for people with disabilities, and it provides accommodation for both volunteers and users within the Oasis itself. Volunteers will be housed in well-equipped houses that include all necessary amenities, such as an adequate number of bathrooms, kitchens, and dining areas. Accommodation will be in double or triple rooms. All houses/accommodation units are located in the same yard, fostering a close-knit environment, though volunteers may stay in separate houses. There are four different kitchens on the premises, where volunteers will take part in food preparation. The association will provide the necessary food based on available resources. Bedding will be provided to all volunteers during their stay.
There are no specific requirements, but if you want to make your life easier, prepare adequate clothes, a good mosquito repellent and shoes for working outside.
The more on the meeting point will be provided in the Infosheet.

Greenlandic Children conducts social activities in Greenland and Denmark for Greenlandic children and young people in vulnerable life situations. We work to ensure that no Greenlandic child grows up in poverty, abuse, or neglect. Children must be heard and involved, and many more Greenlandic children and young people must have an education. We emphasize that our efforts are established in close cooperation with local authorities, organizations, professionals, children, and young people and with respect for local needs, wishes, culture and language. Greenlandic Children currently has ten ongoing projects in Greenland and Denmark and is present in all Greenlandic municipalities, as well as in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Aalborg, Esbjerg, Randers and Vejle. The organization has thirty employees and more than one hundred volunteers. The projects are financed by public funds, foundations, support, and sponsorship from companies and private members and contributors.
Nanortalik is located on the island of Nanortalik at the mouth of the Tasermiut fjord. Nanortalik is the most southern town in Greenland but is still approx. 100 km away northwest from the southernmost point, Cape Farewell (Kap Farvel). The town was founded as a trading post in 1797 but was moved to its current location in 1830. Nanortalik is the smallest of three towns in the Municipality of Kujalleq. Fishing and catching have long been the main occupation in Nanortalik, but in recent years, occupations such as tourism and mining have grown, as Greenland's only gold mine can be found near Nanortalik. By January 1st, 2025, there are 1,078 inhabitants in the town, of which 266 are under the age of 18, corresponding to 24.7 % of the population. Clothing: The average temperatures in Nanortalik in June/July are between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius. Therefor it is good to have layers of clothing (inner layers preferably of wool), gloves and headbands. Language: It is required that you speak English. The main languages in Nanortalik are Greenlandic and Danish but many children speak English as well.
We expect you to stay in a shared bedroom with other volunteers of the same sex. You will stay at a local dorm where kitchen and bathroom facilities will be available. We will divide the volunteers into cooking and cleaning teams. The group is responsible for shopping, cooking, cleaning, etc. All groceries are transported by ship. Therefore, you should expect a limited variation and be able to adapt to these local conditions. Most meals in Greenland are based on meat and fish. To participate in this Work Camp, we require you to provide: 1) A clean criminal record in English – for Danish volunteers, a børneattest is also required. 2) Travel Insurance in English 3) A motivational letter. This letter will be received by our Work Camp host who will determine whether you will be accepted to the camp. Please be aware that there is a response time on your application of five working days. The Work Camp host will also conduct an online interview with an applicant prior to acceptance. In the application, you must answer the following questions: - How can you contribute to the Camp? - What creative, sporting- and outdoor activities will you be able to lead and initiate, and which will you be able to participate in? - How will you be able to contribute to our cultural evening for the whole city? - What experience do you have with volunteering? - What experience do you have with working with children and young people? We travel by plane from Copenhagen to Narsarsuaq and from there by boat or helicopter to Nanortalik. Meeting point and Time: Date: 06.07.2025 Time: 15:00 (it is not possible to arrive after this time) We meet in Copenhagen the day before departure to Greenland. Greenlandic Children will pay for the volunteers to stay the night in a hostel in town. Since flights to Greenland are very limited, it is essential that everyone flies on the same departure from Denmark to Greenland. To make this easier, the Association of Greenlandic Children will organize and purchase your plane tickets in advance. You will then transfer the cost to them. We will send you an email with the payment details, banking information, and deadline. The price of tickets is very high, and some volunteers already have an added travel expense for flying to Copenhagen. The Association has therefore decided to base the price of tickets on your departure country Ticket Prices: Outside Europe: 4000 DKK (~540€) Europe (incl.
