Our work at Bregtal School is centred around giving support to children & young adults with metal and physical handicaps. Our kids are between two and eighteen years old and we support them according to their needs in our nursery, kindergarten, part-time and boarding school. EVS volunteers will spend most of their time with a specific, small group in the kindergarten or the school. Apart from this, volunteers have the opportunity to get to know other areas like speech-therapy, snoezelen, physiotherapy and therapeutic horseback riding. Also, depending on the volunteer’s interests there are lots of possibilities to try out and conduct own projects, of course, always supported by a professional member of our well-trained staff.

Bregtal School already has long experience as an EVS host. We are proud to have hosted volunteers from all over Europe in great, unforgettable projects during the past couple of years. Come and join our Bregtal School EVS family!

Tasks

Most of the time, the volunteers will support our professional staff in one specific group in the kindergarten or school. The tasks: (a) participation in the organisation of school activities, e.g. help with the singing group, the swimming group, during activities like snoezeln, story reading, attendance at physiotherapy & parents’ evenings. (b) assistance at learning practical skills for everyday life. (c) assistance at school lessons. (d) individual support during school activities and helping with homework. (e) participation in the organisation of the pupils’ leisure time. Besides the activities listed above, we will make time to accommodate volunteer’s wishes to get to know other aspects of our work like pedagoical horseback-riding or speech-therapy.

Criteria

We wish for volunteers who …are able to live together with people from different cultural backgrounds (i.e. ability to sometimes question own habits and opinions, sometimes adaptation and teamwork. Our EVS volunteers will live and sometimes also work together in an international shared flat). …are sociable and willing to actively integrate into the local community. …have fun to work with disabled kids. …are aware of the fact the project is situated in a beautiful but rural setting and are ok with it. Some knowledge of German would be good but is not must-have skill. German classes will be provided both a public university class and private classes.
