ijgd celebrates 75 years of international workcamps and together with the State Forest of Lower Saxony we are celebrating 75 years of cooperation. Of course we will also celebrate with you! For more than 30 years, our work camp groups have been supporting the Lautenthal forestry district in maintenance measures and ecological tasks in the forest areas in the Upper Harz. As large, contiguous forest areas, they are important for climate protection. You will help with nature conservation and environmental protection work and, through your efforts, contribute to preserving habitats for (rare) plants and animals and to restoring the balance in nature. The care of young deciduous trees, the nature-oriented design of waters, the repair of benches, shelters and hiking signs, but also the construction of hunting facilities, are among the tasks of your group. You will work in changing small groups and get an insight into the ecological, economic and social tasks of a forestry office.

The work will take place at Oosterhouw in Leens (province Groningen). It is a beautiful monumental manor house surrounded by a garden divided into four different styles. Many parts of these gardens have been neglected over the past decades. Volunteers will be cleaning up and helping restore the gardens to their former glory. Activities range from groundwork like digging and levelling to gardening such as weeding and pruning to wood shredding and splitting. The volunteers will work in the gardens five days a week. This excludes the weekends.
The mansion Oosterhouw in Leens is located in the north of the Netherlands in the province of Groningen. The estate is surrounded by a flat agricultural landscape approximately 10 km from the Wadden Sea UNESCO heritage. Oosterhouw was built in 1868. The last time the building was renovated was in 1912-1913. After that, there weren’t any significant developments. The former owners of the mansion were C.o Jellema and Klaas Noordhuis. Co. Jellema is a semi-known poet in the Netherlands, and his current library is still in the house. Klaas Noordhuis was a garden architect and has added essential aspects to the garden. The current owners bought the house a few years ago and want to open the house more to the public. The house, the garden and the surrounding landscape are unique in this area and must be protected and taken care of.
You will have leisure time after work (work ends at 4 p.m.). The Oosterhouw area mainly consists of small villages with Leens as the main village. You will have bikes at your disposal to explore the surrounding area. During the weekend you can enjoy your free time. There are plenty of nice places to visit, for example the beautiful and vibrant city of Groningen or take a ferry boat and visit the island of Schiermonnikoog.
During the two weeks, the volunteers will be staying at Wongema. It’s a working café located in the small village of Hornhuizen. The whole group will be staying in the residential barn besides the main building. There’s a dorm where everybody will be staying. Clean towels will be provided. Sheets for the beds won’t be provided. (Make sure you bring a sleeping bag or your own sheets!) Downstairs is a kitchen which we can use. Bicycles will be provided for transportation between the accommodation and the gardens of Oosterhouw. The bike ride from and to the accommodation is approximately 15 minutes. You will cook together in teams, taking turns and having the opportunity to cook meals from your home countries. You have a kitchen at your disposal. Self-organisation is also a vital point during your daily camp routines. Cooking and cleaning are planned and done independently within the group. Each participant is expected to take part in the CCC (cooking-cleaning-crew)

Come and take part in the renovation of the picturesque streets in a city of vultures in Provence! A small village of Rougon is situated in the heart of the Verdon Gorge, just next to Point Sublime, a vantage point where you can spot vultures hovering over the river canyon. The village has 56 habitants — and this number rises to as many as 150 in the summer period. The commune of Rougon is planning to continue renovating the village with a third volunteer youth work camp. The aim is to lay out a stone road linking the village to the start of a GR trail (« Grande Randonnée »). Many of the stones will have to be cut before they are laid, and plaster will be prepared on site. This project doesn't require any specific skills, but it is technically very complex and requires a lot of physical effort. You'll learn about stone, the work of a stonemason and the conditions of the trade!
We have collaborated with the lovely district of Rougon three years now and its dwellers are impatient to host us again! We want you to discover this lovely district and the culture of its inhabitants.
Rougon is situated in the heart of the Verdon Gorges. The Verdon is one of the most beautiful rivers of France, famous for its emerald colour, which is a result of a reaction between the fluorine and microalgaes. The water is particularly pristine, fresh and abundant in fish. Named one of the most remarkable places of Europe, the Great Verdon Canyon is a place attracting many tourists every year. Rougon, a fort dating back to 814, is located below vestiges of its mediaeval castle. In Rougon, you may spot griffon vultures, first introduced to Verdon between 1999 and 2004, black vultures, introduced in 2005 and white scavenger vultures which dwell in Verdon Gorge since 2007. The leisure activities will be mostly nature-oriented: hikes and swims in the river. Festivities of the Rougon village are planned for the last weekend of July, at the end of the project and all volunteers are going to be invited for the anchoïade and aioli contest which involves degustating local specialities prepared by the locals themselves and to an evening convert with live music played by a DJ.
You'll be staying in a field in the centre of the village of Rougon. Accommodation will be in tents, with access to public toilets; we will be installing solar-powered showers. For communal living, the group will set up shaded areas with large tents and/or tarpaulins. Don't forget to bring your sleeping bag (very important!!). The meal budget will be managed by the staff. You will share the various collective tasks. You'll help with the shopping and prepare the meals together, giving priority to local seasonal produce. As the site is surrounded by nature, the telephone and internet networks in the area around the village are fairly limited. However, there is a network throughout the village of Rougon. The French volunteers will be able to share their Internet connection through a hotspot.
This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program for young people between 18 and 30. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria. The participation to ESC volunteering teams is subjected to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en - volunteers do not have to pay any fee (neither sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project and will receive financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established depending on their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets; - volunteers need to enrol in the PASS, the ESC Portal; then Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project; - volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on the basis of 6€/day, once they arrive at the project in France; - volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.
The meeting point is set at Les ARCS DRAGUIGNAN train station, at 5:00 PM CET on the 13rd of July. The village is some distance away from the meeting point and since there is no public transport, it is imperative to be present punctually at the meeting point! From PARIS, departure from the Gare de Lyon (train station). The journey by train to the ARCS DRAGUIGNAN lasts about 4 to 5 hours, make sure that you have enough time to have a stress free trip. Train reservations can be made about 4 months before departure on the SNCF website, link below: https://www.sncf-connect.com Whenever possible, use low-carbon transportation (train or bus, rather than airplane) for a responsible and sustainable international work site.
Remember to take clothing adjusted to work and hiking conditions. If you have safety shoes, take them with you, they are strongly recommended. Nights might be cool, take a good sleeping bag, a sleeping mat or an airbed. In order to avoid mosquito bites, take an anti-mosquito spray and loose fitting and covering clothing for the evenings. Days might be very hot, so take a cap or a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a small backpack and water bottles. On the last day (29/07), the departure time is usually set in the morning. For the open days and shared meals, you may take some easily transportable local specialities to share with others.

The Märkische Schweiz Nature Park 40 km east of Berlin offers a unique natural and cultural landscape as well as the backdrop for our project in and around the "Drei Eichen" environmental education centre. By cooperating with the nature park administration, we will not only get to know the nature park and its surroundings, but also actively help to shape it. We are offering this work camp because it is fun to have young people from all over the world with us and because we simply need many hands for some of the work! People and pets live on the grounds of the Drei Eichen environmental education centre - and there are almost always lots of guests: children, families, seminar groups. At the moment, we also want to reintroduce wild honey bees, which originally lived in caves in old trees, to our nature park. To do this, we are building hollows in tree trunks. You help us with this. You will learn about the types of beehives and how the bees are observed and cared for. This ancient art of beekeeping is called Zeidlerei. For activities in between, Drei Eichen with its grounds offers many opportunities to learn about plants and animals, nature conservation and alternative ways of life and to actively participate. On some days, you will "give something back" to Drei Eichen by helping out on the farm - because sometimes we need many hands: e.g. for wood protection paint on the playground, repair work, clearing the small pond of plant debris and cleaning up the garden. At various locations in the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park, we will spend a few days helping to carry out various landscape conservation tasks in different natural areas. The aim is to protect or promote either dry or wet sites, their soil and the native plants that grow there. Historically, these sites were created and maintained through a lot of manual labour - seasonal mowing and grazing by sheep and goats. Today, we help with this. There are many lakes that invite you to take a refreshing dip after work! All work, whether in landscape conservation, manual labour or creative design, takes place outdoors. We plan together on site, depending on the current weather conditions, on which days we do which work and which days we take off.

Among them are GPS tour(s) in the nature park, guided hikes on biodiversity, a visit to the bat museum, trips to surrounding lakes, going to the movies, visiting the pub "lokal." in Buckow, making a campfire; going to an artificial climbing forest or doing a canoe tour in the area. Those who long for more urban hustle and bustle on the weekend can also take a day trip to Berlin or even go to Poland, which is not that far away. We plan together on site, depending on the current weather conditions, among other things, on which days we do what work and on which days we take off.
You will stay at the Drei Eichen environmental education centre, located in the middle of the forest, 4km from Buckow (www.dreichen.de). It helps if you have an interest in physical work and some strength. Please bring weatherproof work clothes/long sleeves and pants, the work takes place outdoors. Mosquito repellent, sunscreen are also essential. Shoes that can withstand water are good - outdoor sandals or similar.

The conservation of the heritage railway and its steam trains requires proper maintenance. Foreseen activities are conservation of the nature and green environment along the railway trajectory, cleaning and painting railway bridges and maintenance of historic railway stations.
The Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (South Limburg Steam Train Company) or ZLSM is a heritage railway operating from its main station of Simpelveld to Schin op Geul and Kerkrade in the south of the Netherlands. It also runs across the border from Simpelveld to Aachen-Vetschau and has an extensive collection of stock. The construction of the original Miljoenenlijn, as a part of the total railway trajectory in the south of Limburg, started in 1925 and was carried out by the Spoorwegbouwbedrijf from Utrecht, a subsidiary of the NS. Construction was difficult and expensive. For example, there is a constant threat of subsidence due to mining. To keep the height differences as small as possible, a lot of earth is moved in the hilly area. While the railway embankment in the Anselerbeek valley in Kerkrade will be raised 32 meters, the railway line between Kerkrade and Simpelveld will be 18 meters below ground level - so as not to have to rise and fall too much.
To this day, the Miljoenenlijn is a railway monument of great cultural-historical value that still appeals to the imagination. For old and young! Everyone is always amazed.

The initiative covers several phases, including the cleaning and clearing of the paths, the restoration of the trellised walls using traditional dry-stone techniques, and the restoration of traditional elements such as gates and curbstones. In addition, the replanting of autochthonous flora to consolidate the side land and the creation and installation of information panels, from Monday to Friday mornings, are also envisaged. The replacement of walls will be assisted by an official mason from the Boltaña Town Council, who will provide on-site instructions on the selection, placement, fitting and proper positioning of the stones. As for the replacement of flora, small gardening tools will be used to plant native species in the form of small seedlings, strengthening and consolidating the land. This comprehensive approach seeks to revitalise the paths, preserve the cultural and natural heritage of Ascaso, and encourage community participation in the recovery process.
Asociación de Vecinos-as y Amigos-as de Ascaso “Los Relojes”. This organisation has been working for almost 20 years to recover the village of Ascaso and its community life. Its best known activity is the Ascaso Film Festival (www.cineascaso.org) but it has carried out numerous campaigns and activities to recover the village. More information at www.ascaso.jimdo.com.
Ascaso, a Pyrenean village located in the municipality of Boltaña, experienced a period of semi-abandonment between the 1960s and 1990s, being inhabited by only one family. Consisting of 7 houses, a pardina, a church and numerous "bordas", it is notable for its popular architectural heritage, including 19th century mural sundials. Although in the past it had footpaths, access to Ascaso has been limited since 1992, as these have practically disappeared under the vegetation. Surrounded by nature and located a few kilometres from the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, Ascaso offers a picturesque and unique setting in Alto Aragón. With the aim of generating meeting spaces in an educational leisure environment that fosters group cohesion, various activities have been planned, especially at weekends. Visit to the Ordesa National Park: Walking tour to the Cola de Caballo. Visit to the twinned town of Saint Lary: Practice of sports activities in nature. Party with young people from Boltaña and other summer activities. Attendance at the Boltaña Cinema: Screening of films of interest to the group at weekends. Evening gatherings: Evening gatherings around a fire or similar structure (special permission from the forest ranger will be required for fires). These activities seek to enrich the experience of the participants, promoting cultural and natural knowledge, as well as strengthening community ties through playful and recreational moments.
The team of volunteers will be installed in 5 tents (purchased and set up by the organisation) for 4 people per tent in an area set up for this purpose. The showers and toilets are the modules already in place for the Ascaso Film Festival: A toilet module with washbasins and toilets (prefabricated approved hut) installed by the City Council and a cabin with 3 newly refurbished individual showers with hot water and washbasin. An outdoor kitchen will be installed as a kitchen, equipped for large meals, kitchenware included. Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Vegan options available.
Essentials: comfortable clothing (T-shirts and shorts and long trousers), some warm mountain clothing, mountain shoes, cap, hiking backpack, sleeping bag, personal hygiene items, swimming costume, pool towel, shower towel, water bottle, flashlight.
To facilitate access to Ascaso, members of the organisation will be at the bus stop at "El Parador" (Av. de Ordesa, 37, 22340 Boltaña, Huesca), on Monday 15th July, from 10:00 to 12:00. Pick-up in the area called "El Parador" in Boltaña, where the bus lines from Barbastro and Sabiñánigo of the Avanza bus company stop. https://www.avanzabus.com/ It will also be possible to reach Ascaso where a welcome will be guaranteed throughout the day.

The departmental domaine de Roussieres is located in the Herault region in the village of Viols-en-Laval, north of Montpellier. Located near an exceptional archaeological site (Cambous is the oldest known archaeological site in France), it is also not far from the river and villages with a remarkable historical heritage. This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal educational activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environmental protection by joining outdoor coastal cleanup tasks in the shores and beaches. Additional work will be undertaken in the area of our accommodation such as removing old fences dangerous to wildlife and visitors, as well as helping with renovation and maintenance of the house. We may also be marking some walking paths and, depending on the advance of the mentioned tasks, volunteers might do some forestry tasks in a small forest planted in the area, like trimming the vegetation or planting some trees. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking during the cleanups. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the planned activities.
The Awareness, Engagement and Action project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners, where we try to raise awareness about current environmental issues and encourage the volunteers to take action One of our main goals for the next few years is to contribute to a nation-wide project aiming at cleaning up the Icelandic coastline. SEEDS works along and supports the Icelandic ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, the Icelandic Environmental organisation Landvernd, the Environmental Agency of Iceland, Umhverfisstofnun and other partners in order to draw attention to the issues of ocean pollution, plastic waste and to engage volunteers in cleaning up actions around the country.
The accommodation is located 1 hour drive south-east from Reykjavik. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre where visitors can have a look at an extensive stone and stuffed animal collection. The house sits under Ingolfsfjall, The Mountain of Ingolfur, with a view to Eyjafjallajokull where the volcanic eruptions started in March and April 2010. The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found spread around the area, which is a popular attraction among foreign and local visitors. The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafes and bars.
SEEDS volunteers will stay in an old farm which has been transformed into an environmental-education centre. The facilities are basic with a kitchen, shower, and a washing machine. Volunteers will sleep in shared rooms, up to 6 people per room. Please bring your own sleeping bag.Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Remember to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

These cleanup tasks may be arranged in partnership with the above mentioned organizations or organized solely by SEEDS. We aim to also involve the local community, so some of our events may be open to the public. We hope participants will learn how to plan and do their own trash hunting projects back at home. This project is based on similar activities around the world, where outstanding results have been achieved with volunteers. One of the two options below is also included in this camp as a hands-on volunteering activity day:A day trip combining a visit to the Hellisheioi geothermal power plant, a trash hunt in the area; and the Hot River Hike, a hike up a valley filled with hot springs where one can bathe. A day trip to the Reykjanes peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area. All the activities are dependent on conditions such as weather and availability of our partners. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walk medium distances during the cleanups, as during other activities and sightseeing. As a part of the project happens outdoors, volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the changeable weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities (as) planned.
The Environmentally Aware and Trash Hunting project is part of a series of camps organized by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners. SEEDS works with and supports the Icelandic ministry for Environment and Natural Resources and the City of Reykjavik on a project to clean up the Icelandic coastline; the Blue Army, an organization dedicated to the cause of coast cleaning; Whales of Iceland, an exhibition of life size models of whales and porpoises aiming at educating about their lives and human impact on their existence; SORPA, the organization in charge of waste collection and management in the Reykjavik area and other local stakeholders. This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environment protection by joining outdoor cleanup tasks.

Join us in Autrêches to participate in an exciting project focused on preserving the natural and built heritage within an innovation hub. During this project at l’Hermitage, our mission will be to renovate and rebuild a large wooden/earthen staircase, while also carrying out minor masonry renovation on the first steps and installing a remarkable handrail made from reclaimed wood. Additionally, we will contribute to environmental preservation by constructing shelters for wildlife using pallet wood, as well as cleaning and rehabilitating various natural sites on the premises. This will also be an opportunity to collaborate with local youth and other organisations present on site, thereby strengthening community ties and the spirit of solidarity. Join us for this rewarding and engaging experience in Autrèches, where every action counts towards preserving our heritage and environment.
The hermitage portrays a place of great historical richness and strategic importance, now transformed into a true rural innovation hub. Located in the heart of a lush green hill steeped in history, it embodies the testimony of a crucial frontline during the First World War, as well as a remarkable medical innovation center in the 1950s. Building on this heritage, a new project is emerging, aiming to breathe new life into this iconic venue. The proposal to create a staircase on the site to establish a common and more accessible hiking space is both relevant and inspiring. It aligns perfectly with our shared vision focused on environmental respect and strengthening connections between individuals and their territory. This initiative not only promises to preserve the Hermitage but also to transform it into a dynamic hub for exchange and gathering, offering unique opportunities for community engagement and connection with local heritage.
Autrêches (750 inhabitants) is located in the department of Oise, in the Picardie region. A small enclave of Oise within the department of Aisne, it is a village composed of several hamlets. The region boasts a rich historical heritage that you can explore nearby: The Palace of Compiègne, the cathedrals of Soissons, and the Château de Pierrefonds, among others. The Hermitage is a community hub welcoming various actors to its premises. Among them is an associative café/bar, where intercultural activities and exchanges are scheduled. These include a large international karaoke night, a visit to the market garden farm, and various concerts throughout the week. More information on the city's website: https://www.hermitagelelab.com/activites/
You will be accommodated in individual tents on the Hermitage park, and will have access to two bungalows equipped with toilets, showers, and a kitchen. The living area will be under a large marquee in the middle of the forest. The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together, and you will participate as well in the grocery shopping and in the preparation of meals, prioritising products from the market and local producers.
Remember to bring work clothes for the work site as well as closed shoes. As the accommodation is under tents, remember to bring your sleeping bag as well as a sleeping mat or a camping mattress for more comfort. Don't forget your bathing suit in case you have the opportunity to go swimming! You can also bring back specialties from your country, photos, musical instruments, in short what you like and want to share on this site, either with the local population or with the group. Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
We will meet up at SOISSONS train station on 19/07 at the end of the day. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the roadmap, sent at the latest 4 weeks before the beginning of the work. From PARIS, regular trains are leaving from Gare du Nord train station towards SOISSONS. The ride lasts for about 60 minutes. The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, available on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/ The last day (03/08) is departure day, which means you can leave anytime in the morning.
This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program for young people aged 18 to 30.
