The General Directorate of Youth, Participation and Volunteering (www.xuventude.xunta.es) is a department of the Xunta de Galicia (www.xunta.gal) whose priority is to meet the needs and concerns of the young population living in Galicia, firmly believing that youth has much to contribute to society as a whole. We work to improve the quality of life of young people in our autonomous community, developing actions and programs that benefit them, increase their well-being and allow them to improve their skill.
This work camp is located on the Illas Cíes, specifically on the Island of Monteagudo (north) at the mouth of the Ría de Vigo, in the municipality of Vigo (Pontevedra). The Cíes Islands form part, together with the Cortegada, Sálvora and Ons archipelagos, of the Galician Atlantic Islands Maritime-Terrestrial National Park. The ecological value of its marine environment is incalculable since within its waters some of the most representative examples of Atlantic marine ecosystems are preserved, which treasure great biological wealth. The marine environment of the Park is a great mosaic of different habitats that support an extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna. There are important communities such as brown algae forests (Saccorhiza polyschides and Laminaria spp.), or those associated with seabeds such as those of Mäerl, and we also find habitats defined as of community or priority interest within the Habitats Directive of the European Union, such as reefs, lagoons or shallow sandbanks permanently covered with seawater. The terrestrial environment is strongly influenced by the proximity of the ocean, highlighting the dune systems, the cliffs and the gorse or heather thickets. Also in the emerged part of the islands we find habitats considered to be of community interest or priority by the directives, such as the gray dunes, the aerohaline coastal scrub or the southern Atlantic humid heather scrub. The main problem for conservation in this environment has been human pressure. Especially in the Cíes Islands, eucalyptus, pine or acacia plantations have displaced the native vegetation in several areas. The eradication of these native species is a very long-term process that is already being worked on and the results of which will be seen gradually. Actions are currently being carried out to develop adequate management of public use, waste from the islands, navigation and anchoring of boats, fishing, shellfishing, etc. Sport fishing and underwater fishing are prohibited within the limits of the National Park. COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES: • Sport activities. • Diving. • Group dynamics. • Guided routes. • Workshops. • Theme evenings. • Environmental activities.
The volunteers will stay in tents, which have canvas-based bunks for resting. The facility has barracks for dining and showers. There is no washing machine (hand wash).

Commit yourself to the heritage of Châteaudouble, a small and typical mediaeval village. For nature and history lovers! The village inaugurated last year an open-air green theatre on an esplanade overlooking the village and its listed monuments with a magnificent unobstructed view. The place will host artists, concerts and many other events for the inhabitants and tourists, participating in the dynamism of the village. The site being vast, several restoration works are planned to vary the pleasures! Your work will consist in restoring the dry-stone walls by sorting stones (salvage and purchased ones), cleaning the area (ground clearance) and constructing the area’s entrance.
Châteaudouble is a mediaeval village with a very rich heritage and sumptuous monuments, some of them being even listed. Very dynamic and invested in the development of its historical and natural heritage, several projects are currently undertaken by the village. This is a renewed partnership with the commune of Châteaudouble for the second year. Our current project is part of a development plan for the plateau of Sainte Anne, on the heights of the village, which became last year an open-air theatre with stone terraces and dressing rooms for artists in the middle of old cobblestone ways, dry-stone walls as well as an old chapel. Our work camp and your commitment will enable us to restore and enhance this magnificent site for the benefit of the population and tourists.
Like a real eagle's nest, overlooking the Nartuby gorges in the upper Var, Châteaudouble has retained its authentic mediaeval appearance. Châteaudouble takes its name from the presence of two castles in the Middle Ages, each of them located on a bank of the Nartuby. Only the remains of the Tower, a square keep, dating from the 12th century, which overlooks the village, still exist today. Perched on its narrow plateau, Châteaudouble is a village that invites you to discover its alleys, wander between the houses and climb up to the ruins of the castle, on the plateau of Sainte Anne. The village offers a wide range of leisure activities, including visits and walks, swimming in the rivers and gorges, kayaking in the gorges or at sea, hiking, local sports such as pétanque, and taking part in the various village festivities. In Châteaudouble, a village of 200 inhabitants, there are two bars and one concert a week in the summer. As the village is isolated with few public transport links, the vast majority of activities take place on site. Outings to the gorges and/or the sea can be organised.
You will be accommodated on site in individual tents with access to a building for communal living, toilets and meals. Handwashing of the laundry. Remember to bring your floor mat or air mattress and your duvet (very important!!). As we do not have a bathroom on site, we will install solar showers. The group will share the cleaning chores and prepare meals together. The budget will be allocated to the staff and you will participate in the grocery shopping and in the preparation of meals, prioritising products from the market and local producers.
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country. This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program for young people between 18 and 30. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria. The participation to ESC volunteering teams is subjected to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en - volunteers do not have to pay any fee (neither sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project and will receive financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established depending on their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets; - volunteers need to enrol in the PASS, the ESC Portal; then Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project; - volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on the basis of 6€/day, once they arrive at the project in France; - volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.
The meeting point is set at Les ARCS DRAGUIGNAN train station, at 5:00 PM CET on the 5th of July. An "on-demand" rural bus service operates in the area, linking Draguignan and Châteaudouble; the coordinators will contact you in the days leading up to the worksite with specific instructions on how to get to the worksite. From “PARIS Gare de Lyon” train station the journey by train to the ARCS DRAGUIGNAN lasts about 4 to 5 hours, make sure that you have enough time to have a stress free travel. Train reservations can be made about 4 months before departure on the SNCF website, link below: https://www.sncf-connect.com Whenever possible, use low-carbon transportation (train or bus, rather than airplane) for a responsible and sustainable international work site.
Remember to bring clothes and shoes for work and hiking. Nights can be cool, so bring a good warm duvet. To avoid mosquito bites, remember to bring mosquito repellent and loose, covering clothes for the evenings. As we are in an area where it can be very hot during the day, bring a hat or cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, a small backpack and water bottles. As the village is far from the meeting place and has no public transportation, it is imperative to be on time at the meeting point! For the public meals and the open house, you can bring a few specialties from home that are easy to carry with you. On the last day (19/07), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

The tasks will be mowing andcollecting the grass. Additionally, the participants of the project will support the work on renovations on the Castle grounds. The hilly massive around Lohra Castle is listed as National Nature Reserve. Open Houses supports the Reserve since several years with volunteering activities. In a forest near the Castle the participants will remove trees and bushes which are not corresponding with the protection aims in order to clean the paths and make them enjoyable again. They will also will collect the wood remaining after maintenance works, load it on a truck, unload it at the castle and split and stack it for wintertime or for the fireplace. Besides that, the volunteers will continue the maintenance of the green area at the castle. In addition, in the later part of the summer, they will support the recollection, assortment, splitting and storage of wood to prepare the castle for the harsh winter months. PARTICIPATION TERMS Participants have to take part for the whole time of the project. The working part consists in six hours per day. Be informed, that during all projects the work will take place also on rainy and cold days and be prepared for that.
Open Houses – not empty buildings, but places with visible and invisible traces of history, places which have grown and decayed over the centuries, places which were shaped by those people who lived there long ago as well those who left only yesterday – places which will be shaped by those who live there or who come as a guest. Open Houses – rooms which want to be filled with dreams and ideas, with meetings and exchange, by people of different backgrounds, different cultures, different generations and different ideas and visions. The history of Open Houses Network dates back to the mid-1980s, when a group of young people started to restore village churches in East Germany in voluntary work to protect them from decay. The engagement for these buildings united people who enjoyed the freedom these activities provided and who filled these rooms with life again in ways which by far exceed the craftsmen's work done – through exhibitions, concerts, making music together or just sitting by the camp fire. Meanwhile, rooms free of political and ideological pressure are no longer urgently required; however, places have become rare where people can meet without commercial pressure, free of bureaucracy and institutionalism, free of nepotism and the exclusion which it produces. What should be easy – to go somewhere in order to meet people and to work together – has become difficult. The tightrope walk between, on the one hand, public activities in a monetary and functional sense, and the retreat into private life on the other, is very difficult, and it requires a lot of power and permanent efforts to tackle red tape and financial restrictions. Free spaces are less and less understood as common property, and are permanently being cut back. The idea of public property seems to have gone out of fashion, and places of common responsible work have become rare. Open Houses Network tries to create and protect such spaces. In this process, we do not want to be the doers, but be people who have a vision, who want to initiate something, but who also are aware of depending on the co-operation of others. We understand our projects and events as offers – as offers to create space for commitment, for changes, for meetings.
LOCATION: Next towns: Bleicherode (6 km), Nordhausen (20 km), Erfurt (75 km) Region: Thuringia Lohra Castle is situated in the heart of Germany in Northern Thuringia. The castle, which is surrounded by a scenic hilly landscape, is located on the edge of a natural reserve area. Being one of the largest castles in Thuringia, the history of castle Lohra begins in the Middle Ages. Its architectural styles which have been preserved in the structures of the ensemble attest to a prolonged period of occupation and historical evolution up until today. The castle is more than thousand years old, and it is a relic of German medieval past that is still standing at the heart of a region through which the story of the German nation has been written. Today, it includes twenty buildings from different time periods, showcasing this historical evolution to the enchantment of visitors and heritage enthusiasts: medieval fortifications, remnants of a tower from the 11th century, a Romanesque double-floored chapel, a manor house from the Renaissance period as well as stables and granaries from the 19th and the early 20th centuries. The ensemble is situated in the centre of a beautiful forest. LEISURE TIME The camp places are mostly situated in small villages in rural areas, so the participants should not expect busy places and normal city activities for the leisure time during the working days. In collaboration with a local NGO, "Youth for Smile," a youth organization, is embarking on an ambitious project to transform the abandoned former orphanage in Lauderi village into a vibrant non-formal education training centre. This workcamp activity aims to engage volunteers in revitalizing the surrounding area and the interior of the building, setting the stage for a future hub of learning and community development. The project activity will take place in Lauderi village, where the dormant training centre stands as a testament to untapped potential. This picturesque village provides the perfect backdrop for community-driven initiatives, and the youth organization envisions transforming the old orphanage into a lively educational space. Project Goals: Revitalizing the Park and Surrounding Area: Volunteers will work collaboratively to clean and rejuvenate the park surrounding the former orphanage. This includes clearing debris, landscaping, and creating a welcoming outdoor space for the future training centre. Interior Cleanup: In addition to the exterior, volunteers will venture inside the building to tackle the accumulated remnants of years of abandonment. This involves removing old and broken furniture, clothes, and other items that hinder the potential of the space. Community Engagement: The project aims to foster a sense of community among volunteers and local residents. Through shared efforts, participants will not only contribute to the physical transformation of the training centre but also build lasting connections with the community.
Jaunatne smaidam / Youth for Smile is a non-profit, non-governmental youth organization founded in 2005. Our organization is dedicated to fostering the intellectual, creative, and personal development of young people through various initiatives. With a mission to create, experience, and be together, we aim to provide opportunities that empower local communities and contribute to the growth of youth on both local and international levels. Our organization's primary goals are threefold: creating, experiencing, and being together. We strive to enable local communities to learn, participate, and self-realize (Creating), offer experiences at the local and international levels to promote personal development among young people (Experience), and cultivate an environment where young individuals can develop competencies for the growth of their communities (Being together). The organization is committed to fulfilling these goals through a range of tasks and programs. These include: 1. Youth Initiatives: We actively develop and promote youth initiatives, fostering favorable conditions for intellectual and creative development. 2. Non-formal Education: Providing young people with opportunities to acquire essential life skills, knowledge, and competencies through non-formal education. 3. Leisure Time Activities: Offering opportunities for young individuals to make good use of their leisure time in meaningful ways. 4. Information Access: Ensuring young people have access to relevant information for their developmental needs. To address the needs of youth with fewer opportunities, we implement outdoor education and adventure pedagogy through various non-formal education programs. Additionally, our international voluntary work camps program promotes intercultural learning, community development, and peace education. In low-populated areas, we conduct mobile youth work, providing essential youth services where municipalities may not cover them. Advocacy at the regional level is a crucial aspect of our work, advocating for the quality of youth work and the development of participatory youth policy. Furthermore, our active involvement in traditional folk and cultural events aims to introduce these aspects to the youth, preserving cultural heritage and fostering a sense of community. DIY workshops are organized to support young people in learning practical skills necessary for life. While the organization was established in 2005, we have grown to be a values-based youth association with a significant impact on local communities and the personal development of young individuals. Our commitment to creating, experiencing, and being together drives our efforts to empower the youth and contribute to the well-being of the broader community.

It is recommended that volunteers bring their sleeping bags for added comfort during the nights. Toilets and Washing Facilities: Basic toilet and washing facilities will be available on-site, ensuring that volunteers have essential amenities for their daily needs. Kitchen Setup: Volunteers will have access to a simple kitchen within the organization house. The kitchen is equipped with the essentials needed for preparing meals. Self-Catering: Cooking responsibilities will be delegated to the volunteers themselves. This self-catering approach fosters a sense of teamwork and collaboration, allowing participants to share cooking duties and create a communal atmosphere. International Evening: As a delightful addition to the cultural exchange aspect of the workcamp, volunteers are encouraged to bring traditional or typical food items from their home countries. These contributions will be part of an international evening, providing an opportunity for everyone to share and savor a diverse array of flavors from around the world. Additional Recommendations: Personal Essentials: Volunteers are advised to bring personal toiletries, towels, and any specific items they may need for their stay. Adaptability: Given the basic living conditions, a flexible and adaptable mindset is recommended. Embracing the simplicity of the accommodation enhances the overall workcamp experience. The focus of the accommodation and food arrangements is to create a communal living environment where volunteers can collaborate, share cultural experiences, and contribute to the success of the workcamp while enjoying the unique aspects of each participant's background.

This work camp is for nature lovers, since the work will be mainly outdoors. There is a lot of work around the natural reserve “Upahl-Lenzen”. Since it’s not possible to use common agricultural techniques, volunteers have to do everything manually. More over every meadow around has to be cut and the grass have to be put aside. The aim of this project is to help to protect this unique reserve through your contribution. This project will be done in cooperation with the environmental agency of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
This project is organized by NiG e.V., a german non-profit and non-government organization. In this project we work together with the local agency for agriculture and environment.
Lohmen is a village in the middle of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is surrounded by the nature reserve Upahl-Lenzen. It has about 850 inhabitants but also many possibilities for outdoor activities like a labyrinth, sports grounds and an archeological nature trail. There is a lake in walking distance where you can swim and also much nature to enjoy in general. Leisure time activities: Excursions (swimming, short trips) can be planned.
The volunteers will stay at the building of a former kindergarten. Food (also vegetarian/ vegan) is included, but meals have to be prepared by the volunteers. (we like to do international cooking days, so every nation cooks one typical/traditional meal for everyone) On the last weekend, we arrrange a trip to Rostock (next biggest city, directly at the sea) and stay in our office accomodation. There we have the opportunity, to either go the beach or into clubs and stuff like this :)
Please bring a sleeping bag, working clothes (gloves), a mattress pad (and good motivation :D).
BE CAREFUL! There are two different villages called "Lohmen" in Germany. The workcamp will be in that Lohmen between Guestrow and Goldberg in the region Mecklenburg Western Pomerania.

The camp is designed as a place for socializing, mutual communication and inclusion of people with developmental disabilities with volunteers from the regular population, who come from different cultures and environments. Volunteers will work in the "Oasis" on everyday activities with the users of the house. Main activities are activities that our users also engage in daily life: maintenance and arrangement of work and living space; tidying up the yard and plot; pulling weeds and working in the garden (planting, hoeing, watering, crop care and harvesting); sorting of the obtained fruits and vegetables - separation for feeding in the camp, for distribution to socially disadvantaged members of the local community, for livestock and for compost; feeding of animals and maintenance of premises where animals stay; going to the local environment to empty recycling containers with PET packaging, pressing the packaging, visiting vulnerable families from the local community.
The association "Living togehter" was founded by a group of parents with the aim of improving the quality of life of their children - persons with intellectual disabilities, families and the entire social community since 1997. We have extensive experience in working with people with disabilities, as well as organizing various events. The mission of the Association is to make people with developmental disabilities visible, present and active in all segments of social life, to affirm their abilities and individuality, to promote their rights and enable them to live a dignified and fulfilling life. The values of the association are equality and equal opportunities, commitment, tolerance, solidarity, development of partnership as well as permanent education for all. Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS) was founded in 1976. Our main aims are environmental protection and education, promotion of sustainable development, work with young people in an international context, promotion of scientific creativity and voluntarism and its values. Voluntary Service of Serbia is a volunteer exchange service center founded in 1990 as one of the sectors of YRS.
The camp would take place in Golubinci (a village/town in the municipality of Stara Pazova), 8 km from the town of Stara Pazova. The town has about 5,000 inhabitants, it is a multicultural environment, the majority of the population is of the Orthodox faith, but the Catholic population is also very represented. In the center of the town there are Orthodox and Catholic churches, a supermarket, a post office, a school, a kindergarten, a health center, cafes... It is interesting that the castle Schloss (from the 18th century) is located there, which is accompanied by stories about curses, infidelities and punishments. It has significant architectural and historical value because Karađorđe Petrović and composer Ludwig Van Beethoven stayed there. Various manifestations are held in the town itself throughout the year: Cat Festival (masquerade ball and carnival), Days of Rosemary, Earth Day... During the volunteers' stay, the celebration of Petrovdan - the holiday of the place - will be held, during which numerous outdoor activities will be organized and a fair in which enjoyed by all the locals.
Camp Oasis Golubinci gathers people of good will who are ready to help and provide support in life and work to adults with developmental disabilities. Oasis Golubinci is a living and working community for people with disabilities, and in the Oasis itself there is accommodation for volunteers and users. Volunteers will be accommodated in houses that have all the necessary equipment (sufficient number of bathrooms, kitchen, dining room), in double and triple rooms. All houses/accommodation units are in the same yard, so volunteers are directed to each other, although they may be in separate houses. Given that there are 4 different kitchens, there are opportunities for volunteers to participate in the preparation of food themselves, and the association can provide the necessary food, according to our capabilities. Volunteers will be provided with bedding.
Previous experience of working with people in situation of developmental disabilities is not necessary, however you should be motivated to spend time with them and help organize activities. Keep in mind that it can be quite hot in the summer, prepare adequate clothes a good mosquito repellent and shoes for working outside.
There is a direct train that takes around 45 min from Belgrade to the village of Golubinci and it operates several times a day. The farm is easily reachable from there. Also, from Belgrade bus station there are numerous departures to Stara Pazova (the journey lasts around 40 min), and from there many local buses go to Golubinci (10 min). More details will be provided in the Infosheet about reaching the camp.

You will learn to recognize various herbs, collect them and make herbal mixtures. To see the whole production process, they will help in the social enterprise in Nova Lhota where the herbal teas are packaged (grind and filter dried herbs, fill the boxes with tea bags and wrap them in foil on the machines in the tea production workshop, etc). In a natural garden, you will help with weeding, mulching and/or other small jobs. In the village of Nova Lhota, you will help with the maintenance of public spaces. Bring suitable clothes and shoes that can get dirty and a raincoat. No previous experience with this kind of work is required.
This project is organized in cooperation with Nova Lhota, a small Moravian village located in the White Carpathian Mountains on the Slovak border. The project aims to involve volunteers in collecting herbs and fruits, getting to know the local culture and nature, and maintaining the public spaces, greenery and valuable flowery meadows. In this project, you will actively contribute to achieving UN SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and UN SDG15 Life on Land.
The project takes place in the small village of Nova Lhota surrounded by the nature of the White Carpathians. The collection of herbs and minor garden work takes place in the natural garden at the Karpaty Ecocentre. The herbs are then processed in a nearby building, in a small factory of regional teas. In the village, there is a grocery and general store, a hostel, 2 playgrounds, a school, a cultural centre, and a church. ATMs or pharmacies are located in bigger towns Velka nad Velickou (10km) and Uherske Hradiste (30km). The region is famous for its folk traditions and beautiful countryside. You can go on a trip to Straznice or Skalice, visit wine cellars, the Bata canal, the windmill in Kuzelov, go on a hike and reach the highest peak of the White Carpathian Mountains – Velka Javorina. You can get involved in guided creative leisure activities in the eco-centre, which will support group cohesion and beautify the garden area (e.g. mosaics, decorations from nature, houses for insects or pictures painted with clay pigments, etc.).
Accommodation will be provided in a tourist hostel in Nova Lhota. You will sleep in rooms on bunk beds with duvets and pillows. There are 5 rooms (2 x four-bedroom, 2 x six-bedroom, 1 x eight-bedroom). There are bathrooms, a dining room with a fully equipped kitchen, WIFI, a washing machine and relaxing spaces in front and behind the building. For two days you will stay at a farm in Travicna and sleep in a natural wooden cottage or the open air. Thus, bring a mat and a sleeping bag. You will cook for yourself in cooking teams from provided ingredients.
Bring your sleeping bag, a mat, clothes and shoes for work, a raincoat, a good mood and a willingness to meet others. There is a strict no-alcohol policy in the place of accommodation. This project is suitable for volunteers who like nature and learning about the environment and local traditions. You will spend a lot of time outdoors so you can get into contact with different kinds of plants, herbs, pollen, and insects. There is a risk of allergies to hay and grass. This project is supported by the EU program European Solidarity Corps. Some of the conditions differ from the usual projects; there will be detailed info provided after your acceptance. These cleanup tasks may be arranged in partnership with the above mentioned organisations or organised solely by SEEDS. We aim to also involve the local community, so some of our events may be open to the public. We hope participants will learn how to plan and do their own trash hunting projects back at home. This project is based on similar activities around the world, where outstanding results have been achieved with volunteers. One of the two options below is also included in this camp as a hands-on volunteering activity day:A day trip combining a visit to the HellisheiE(i geothermal power plant, a trash hunt in the area; and the Hot River Hike, a hike up a valley filled with hot springs where one can bathe. A day trip to the Reykjanes peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area. All the activities are dependent on conditions such as weather and availability of our partners. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walk medium distances during the cleanups, as during other activities and sightseeing. As a part of the project happens outdoors, volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the changeable weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities (as) planned.
The Environmentally Aware and amp; Trash Hunting project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners. SEEDS works with and supports the Icelandic ministry for Environment and Natural Resources and the City of ReykjavEk on a project to clean up the Icelandic coastline; the Blue Army, an organisation dedicated to the cause of coast cleaning; Whales of Iceland, an exhibition of life size models of whales and porpoises aiming at educating about their lives and human impact on their existence; SORPA, the organisation in charge of waste collection and amp; management in the ReykjavEk area and other local stakeholders. This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal educational activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environmental protection by joining outdoor coastal cleanup tasks in the shores and beaches. Additional work will be undertaken in the area of our accommodation such as removing old fences dangerous to wildlife and visitors, as well as helping with renovation and maintenance of the house. We may also be marking some walking paths and, depending on the advance of the mentioned tasks, volunteers might do some forestry tasks in a small forest planted in the area, like trimming the vegetation or planting some trees. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking during the cleanups. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the planned activities.
The Awareness, Engagement and Action project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners, where we try to raise awareness about current environmental issues and encourage the volunteers to take action One of our main goals for the next few years is to contribute to a nation-wide project aiming at cleaning up the Icelandic coastline. SEEDS works along and supports the Icelandic ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, the Icelandic Environmental organisation Landvernd, the Environmental Agency of Iceland, Umhverfisstofnun and other partners in order to draw attention to the issues of ocean pollution, plastic waste and to engage volunteers in cleaning up actions around the country. The accommodation is located 1 hour drive south-east from Reykjavik. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre where visitors can have a look at an extensive stone and stuffed animal collection. The house sits under Inglfsfjall, The Mountain of Inglfur, with a view to Eyjafjallajkull where the volcanic eruptions started in March and April 2010. The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found spread around the area, which is a popular attraction among foreign and local visitors. The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafs and bars.

BioRia is a network of nature trails, a paradise for birdwatching, integrated in a Natura 2000 site. In Canelas, the LUSITANICA project has been running since 2016, aiming to convert a degraded area into a model forest for nature conservation and fire prevention, as well as to rebuild heritage buildings: an abandoned water mill and a historic fountain ( Fonte dos Namoricos ) which is very degraded. It is an area much cherished by the population, but it requires a major intervention to return to being the social dynamic pole it was in the past. This project integrates environmental and social interventions promoting sustainability as a whole.
Location: Canelas (https://goo.gl/maps/VZxXRCd3GwdwgmD7A )Canelas is also a rural area but easily accessible by train. It is also 15 minutes from Aveiro city by train.
Participants will sleep in a shared sports complex in Estarreja with beds, separated by gender. The complex has a sports locker room with hot water showers also separated by gender. The organization will provide breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Lunches and dinners are prepared/cooked by the municipalitys staff and served in a canteen, but some lunches will be served in the field (sandwiches, fruit, etc.). Vegetarian/vegan meals are an option.
Participants have to bring their own towels and hygiene products. Participants can also bring typical food items/beverages from their country for the international cultural dinner and a presentation about the nature of your region. It is also important to bring working clothes and shs, sunscreen and hat.
