The camp takes place within a Reformed Christian community, where prayer will be part of the daily program. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to teach English, lead games and sports activities, and most importantly, foster joy, trust, and confidence in the children. Join us in creating a brighter future for these kids—one filled with laughter, learning, and endless opportunities!

Partner

The Via-Viridis Association operates the Swallow Nest after-school (Fecskefészek Tanoda) in Pilisvörösvár, which has been welcoming local children since 2014. Their program is primarily aimed at children who struggle to fit into the education system and come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Their goal is not only to support the children in their studies but also to develop their social skills, helping them achieve long-term success in the job market. The center is open five days a week, providing development opportunities for 30 disadvantaged or special educational needs (SEN) children and youth aged 7 to 16.

Location

Pilisvörösvár is a town in the Budapest metropolitan area, located 18 kilometers northwest of the capital. It is home to one of the largest German minority communities in Hungary. Evenings and the second weekend will be free, allowing volunteers to explore the beauty of Pilisvörösvár, Budapest, and the surrounding mountains. Budapest offers breathtaking landscapes, a rich architectural and historical heritage, a uniquely diverse culture, delicious cuisine, and a wide range of exciting leisure activities for visitors to enjoy.

Accomodation

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps program. There is no participation fee. We will provide a public transport pass to cover the commute. We provide two meals a day (cold breakfast and hot meals for lunch), with a vegetarian option available. Each volunteer will also receive €7 per day as pocket money and 5 EUR per day food allowance to cover the dinner. Travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the distance after participation. All necessary equipment for the tasks will be provided.

Requirements

Summer camp at Ferencváros

Code:EGY-ESC-25-06

Where:Budapest

Number of volunteers:10

Language:English

Extra-Fee:0

Age:18-30

15/06/2025 - 02/07/2025

Work

Help make the summer camp a reality for children aged 10 to 18 by joining an international team of volunteers and accompanying them on a one-week summer camp at Lake Balaton. Throughout the camp, we will organize fun activities, including music, sports, and crafts, which not only support learning but also boost the children's confidence and creativity. In the meantime, we are likely to give them a glimpse of how exciting and culturally diverse the world is, in the hope that some of them will be inspired to travel later on. We are looking for volunteers who enjoy leading such activities—whether it’s crafting, playing music, dancing, sports, or even cooking and introducing their own national dishes. It is essential to create a safe and inspiring environment where children can learn, play, and grow with joy. The program is divided into three stages: onboarding in Budapest, community programs in Ferencváros, and finally, a summer camp at Lake Balaton (approximately 1 week).

Partner

The Ferencvárosi Atlasz Tanoda, operated by the KÖZért Association, aims to support the educational progress of young people aged 10-18, who face social difficulties, are disadvantaged, or are under child protection, often living in the urban segregates of Ferencváros. Their goal is to prevent school dropout. Their programs include school preparation, personality development, improving IT skills, as well as arts and recreational activities. Their aim is to develop the competencies of the young people and provide family and social support.

Location

Not only will you create unforgettable memories at the camp, but you’ll also have the chance to explore Hungary’s stunning capital and the Balaton in your free time! Evenings and the second weekend will be free, giving you the opportunity to wander the streets of Budapest, admire its historic buildings, immerse yourself in the city's vibrant cultural scene, or try the famous Hungarian cuisine. As part of an international team, you won’t just make the children’s summer special—you’ll make your own unforgettable as well!

Accomodation

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps program. There is no participation fee. All volunteers will be accommodated in shared rooms in Budapest in a dormitory at the beginning and end of the project. During the Balaton camp, volunteers will stay in a youth camp together with the children in Balatonlelle for 5-6 days. We provide three meals a day (hot meals for lunch and dinner), with a vegetarian option available. Each volunteer will also receive €7 per day as pocket money. Travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the distance after participation. All necessary equipment for the tasks will be provided.

Meeting point

On June 15th at 6:00 PM, we will meet you at Deák Square, Budapest (city center), at the airport bus stop (100E and 200E buses).

The Lyukóvölgy Learning Center of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service has been operating in the suburbs of Miskolc since 2016, supporting disadvantaged, primarily Roma children in catching up outside school and overcoming social challenges. Through individual and small-group sessions, as well as recreational activities, the center fosters children's development in collaboration with schools and families.

Miskolc is a vibrant city rich in cultural and natural treasures, located in the northeastern part of Hungary at the foot of the Bükk Mountains. The town is an ideal location for hiking and cultural exploration. Landmarks such as the Diósgyőr Castle and the Miskolctapolca Cave Bath offer unforgettable experiences. A vegetarian option may be available, but unfortunately, a vegan diet cannot be accommodated. Each volunteer will receive a daily allowance of 7 EUR. At the end of the project, travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the travel distance. All necessary equipment for the tasks will be provided.

Kids summer camp in Bódvalenke

Code:EGY-IVS-25-01

Where:Bódvalenke

Number of volunteers:8

Language:English

Extra-Fee:0

Age:18-50

20/07/2025 - 26/07/2025

Work

Join an international team of volunteers and help organize a summer camp for children aged 3 to 18! As a volunteer, you can teach English, lead games and sports activities, while giving so much more: bringing joy, building trust, and boosting their self-confidence. The children will attend the activities in age-based groups every day from Monday to Friday. Join the dedicated team of the foundation and bring joy and learning into the lives of local children together!

Partner

Since 2016, the Juszt-is teszünk! Foundation has been active in Bódvalenke. That was the year when the project began that earned the village the nickname "Fresco Village", as Roma painters transformed the walls of the houses into beautiful works of art. Bódvalenke is mostly inhabited by Roma people, whose only employment opportunity is public works. Over the years, several projects have been launched to support the disadvantaged local community. There are nearly 100 children living in Bódvalenke, making up half of the village’s population.

Location

Bódvalenke is a small village with approximately 230 residents, located in northern Hungary, in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, near the Slovakian border, within the Edelény district. It is close to Miskolc and surrounded by picturesque natural landscapes. This experience is not only about volunteering but also about connecting with the community, learning about Roma culture, and enjoying meaningful moments with fellow volunteers.

Accomodation

Accommodation will be provided at the foundation's house, where you can either camp in a tent or sleep in the community space. The house has two separate restrooms with showers. Activities with the children take place outdoors in the yard, so if you need a short break and the group size allows it, you can rest in the sleeping area. We will provide three meals a day (hot meals for lunch and dinner), with a vegetarian option available. Meals are always shared. Breakfast consists of cold food (e.g., sandwiches, boiled eggs, etc.), while lunch and dinner will be prepared together the night before. The weekly menu will be planned together during the preparatory meeting.

Requirements

There are no language requirements, but English will be the working language during the program. Please bring comfortable clothes that can get dirty while playing, a sleeping bag, and any personal medications you may need. We kindly ask you to send us a motivation letter, focusing on why you decided to work with children and what related skills or previous experiences you have in this field.

Meeting point

Meeting point: We will be waiting for you on July 20th at 10:00 AM at Deák Square, at the airport bus stop (100E and 200E). If this time is too early for you, the foundation’s staff can provide accommodation for volunteers the night before. The transportation between Budapest and Bódvalenke will be arranged by the foundation, either by car or train. The journey takes at least 3 hours by car.

Notes:

Two weeks before the camp starts, we will hold an online preparatory meeting on a Monday evening to finalize the weekly program, ensuring we have all necessary materials. After the camp, there will also be an online reflection session where we will discuss our experiences. It would be great if you could join these as well!

Help make the summer camp of Zsendülő Tanoda a reality and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers that will make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children, aged 6 to 14! As a volunteer, we ask that you be present and actively participate in the activities between 12:30 and 18:00.
