Summer camp at Máltanoda

Where:Lyukóvölgy-Miskolc

Number of volunteers:10

Language:English

Extra-Fee:0

Age:18-30

17/07/2025 - 03/08/2025

Work

Join the Lyukóvölgy summer camp and help create unforgettable experiences for children aged 6 to 18! Be part of an international volunteer team that makes a real difference in their lives. As a volunteer, you can teach English, lead games and sports activities, and, most importantly, bring confidence, trust, and joy to the children. The camp starts each day between 8:00 and 8:30 when the children arrive. The morning kicks off with group exercise or dance at 9:00, followed by an hour of sports—ping pong, football, badminton, or any activity you enjoy leading. From 11:00 to 13:00, thematic workshops focus on career orientation (sharing your studies and work experience) and healthy living. Around 30 children participate daily. The official program ends with a shared lunch at 13:00, but your involvement doesn’t have to stop there. You can help with learning, play with younger kids, organize activities for teens, or even join a herb-collecting trip!

Partner

The Lyukóvölgy Learning Center of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service has been operating in the suburbs of Miskolc since 2016, supporting disadvantaged, primarily Roma children in catching up outside school and overcoming social challenges. Through individual and small-group sessions, as well as recreational activities, the center fosters children's development in collaboration with schools and families.

Location

Miskolc is a vibrant city rich in cultural and natural treasures, located in the northeastern part of Hungary at the foot of the Bükk Mountains. The town is an ideal location for hiking and cultural exploration. Landmarks such as the Diósgyőr Castle and the Miskolctapolca Cave Bath offer unforgettable experiences. Local communities and organizations warmly welcome international volunteers to work together on beautifying the city. During the program, participants also have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Hungarian culture and traditions.

Accomodation

The project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps program, and there is no participation fee. All volunteers will be accommodated in Miskolc at the Martin Luther King Dormitory, a student residence dedicated to disadvantaged youth. We provide three meals a day: breakfast at the dormitory, a communal outdoor-cooked lunch at the learning center, and additional pocket money for dinner. A vegetarian option may be available, but unfortunately, a vegan diet cannot be accommodated. Each volunteer will receive a daily allowance of 7 EUR. At the end of the project, travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the travel distance. All necessary equipment for the tasks will be provided.

Requirements

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are empathetic, patient, and have experience or interest in teaching children and teenagers. Strong communication skills are essential—even nonverbal communication—along with the ability to connect easily with different age groups. This camp is especially ideal for those who have worked with children before or are looking to gain experience in this field. Please fill out our application form: https://coda.io/form/Application-form-Kids-summer-camps-in-Hungary-2025_dHyL6cFRzLS

Meeting point

The nearest airport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD). The easiest way to get to Miskolc from Budapest is by train or bus. Trains depart from Keleti Railway Station, with InterCity trains taking about 2 hours and 10 minutes. Volánbusz services depart from Népliget, with a journey time of around 2.5 to 3 hours.

Notes:

We are looking for motivated volunteers with empathy, patience, and experience in teaching young children and teenagers. Ideal candidates are strong in (non-verbal) communication and can connect well with children of different ages. This camp is especially suitable for volunteers with experience or a keen interest in working with kids. Work

Immerse yourself in history by taking part in a unique archaeological research project at the citadel of Doullens! Your mission will be to clear a mound of earth blocking access to an unexplored underground passage. Using careful excavation techniques, you will dig and sift through each layer of soil, searching for historical artifacts and hidden remnants of the past. This workcamp is a true archaeological adventure, offering the chance to uncover long-buried secrets of this remarkable site. Come and visit this area where JRR Tolkien lived and got inspired to create his worldly known universe of Lord of the Rings.

Partner

The EPCC of the Somme are long-standing partners of Concordia. After a first collaboration in 2019 on the archaeological site of Samara, the EPCC of the Somme has decided to renew our partnership for an exciting new project: the exploration and enhancement of the underground tunnels of the Doullens citadel. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to preserving and showcasing historical heritage while engaging young international volunteers in a mission of discovery and cultural transmission. The city of Doullens and the EPCC are fully dedicated to welcoming volunteers and will ensure a friendly and enriching experience. Many interactions with locals and community members are planned, providing a deep immersion into the region’s culture and history. This work camp is a unique opportunity to actively contribute to the preservation of an iconic site while sharing meaningful moments with the local community.

Location

Doullens is located in the northern part of the Somme, at the crossroads between Amiens, Arras, and Abbeville. This strategic position places it within easy reach of historical and cultural landmarks, including the stunning Gothic cathedral of Amiens, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the vibrant city of Arras, known for its beautiful squares and underground tunnels. Surrounded by picturesque countryside, Doullens offers a peaceful setting perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking and exploring the region’s rich history. Volunteers will have the opportunity to visit nearby sites like the Baie de Somme, one of France’s most breathtaking natural reserves, Samara archeological parc or explore the remnants of World War I battlefields. During the summer, local events, markets, and cultural festivities will add to the experience. With the support of the team, outings and activities will be organized to fully enjoy the region’s heritage, nature, and warm community atmosphere.

Accomodation

You will be accommodated in individual tents within one of the citadel’s gardens, a unique and historic setting. A former jail will serve as a communal living space, providing a dining area and a sheltered retreat in case of bad weather. Sanitary facilities will be available in an annex building, while showers will be accessible at the town’s gym, a 15-minute walk from the campsite. Collective living will be at the heart of this experience: you will share daily tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be managed by the animation team for grocery shopping, and you will be encouraged to use fresh, local, and seasonal products for healthy, mainly vegetarian and delicious meals.

Requirements

Please bring good shoes, working clothes and a swimsuit. As nights can be quite cold, remember also to bring warm clothes, a sleeping bag and a matress for more comfort. You can also bring traditional recipes from your home country/region, an instrument of music and games.

Meeting point

The meeting is planned at the Saint Martin Place in Doullens, 18th July at the end of the day. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the info sheet, sent at least 4 weeks before the beginning of the workcamp. From PARIS, regular trains (around 1 per hour) leave from the Gare du Nord train station for Amiens train station (1hour trip). From Amiens, a bus is available every hours in direction of Doullens The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/ If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress-free travel.

Notes:

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Work

During this workcamp, you'll contribute to the construction and installation of collective com-post bins. The work will involve laying out the space, assembling the compost bins using re-cycled materials, installing a ventilation system, and defining composting rules. You'll also take part in collecting the first organic waste to start composting. It's a great opportunity to make a concrete commitment to the environment! 25h/week

Partner

Join us for an ecological and convivial project: together, we're going to create collective com-post bins! You'll help assemble the composts, organize the spaces and set up the first com-posting rules. It's an opportunity to help reduce waste and improve the association's local en-vironment. You'll be involved in all the practical stages, from building composts to launching them, while learning the basics of composting and actively contributing to an ecological pro-ject.

Location

The workcamp will take place on the REV's permanent site, a former vacation camp at an altitude of 1,200m. The site is located at the foot of Mont-Lozère (department 48) in the heart of the Cévennes. The REV took over the site in the spring of 2022 and hopes to turn it into a place of welcome, exchange and encounter. This project will be part of the transformation of the colony into a socio-cultural living space. Shaped by erosion, this territory is criss-crossed by several watercourses, geological formations such as the causes and numerous forests of many species. A wide variety of flora and fauna have been preserved here thanks to the low human density of recent centuries. The nearest town is Mende, with 16,000 inhabitants. Far from the French metropolises, Lozère is nonetheless a very dynamic region. The region's activities revolve around local festivities, concerts and unspoilt natural areas (mountains, riv-ers, forests).

Accomodation

The workcamp will take place in a particularly isolated area, where you will be accommodat-ed on the REV site in a collective tent (remember to bring your sleeping bag). You will have access to sanitary facilities close to the camp. What's more, if weather conditions deteriorate too much for camping, we'll set up a permanent camp for the duration of the bad weather. Meals will be provided by the REV and cooked in turn by the participants.

Meeting point

Please arrive on 18/07 between 4pm and 6pm. Génolhac train station (30450).

Notes:

This workcamp is funded by the European Solidarity Corps. There is no registration fee. Transport costs will be reimbursed up to a lumpsum fixed according to the travelled distance. Pocket money of €7 per day will be distributed.

Partner

This project is organized for local children by The Language School In Down-Town and the non-profit educational association Alternative Language Programs Satellite (ALPS) as part of their annual activities on multicultural issues for youth. Some international teenage participants may randomly join. The common project s aim is to introduce the diversity of world cultures to children and provide them with good practices in intercultural communication using the learning-by-doing method and organizing alternative English language practice. The project gets youngsters familiar with customs and traditions of the countries from all over the world and encourages them to develop their cross-cultural thinking and tolerance as well as global thinking and individual initiative. This summer we offer you to participate in our project called KALEIDOSCOPE . We invite camp participants to discuss ideas of chaos and order, mess and harmony. Together, we will discover our own infinite potential and freedom to create new patterns of life, same way as we create patterns out of random single pieces of colourful glass twisting a kaleidoscope. We will learn how to find harmony in apparent disorder and use chaos as a tool for stress relief, how to turn imperfection into the source of true beauty and embrace uncertainty to make our life journey more successful, unique and vibrant. Camp participants will gain ideas and skills how to deal with millions of combinations of the world s reality. Meetings with local and/or international professionals in the field will take place. 18/07/2025 - 02/08/2025

Descrizione

PROJECT : Every year many people, with different ages and religious, cultural and political backgrounds, come to Agape to discuss and to be challenged, to get to know themselves and each other and to exchange experiences around a particular theme. The work camp will support the management and support the meetings on issues of political, social, cultural and religious interest. The center is volunteers-driven, and its management is in your hands. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: QualityEducation-SDG4 and GenderEquality-SDG5 Reduce inequality SDG510 Promote peaceful and inclusive societies SDG516

Work

WORK : The workcamp is an international experience, giving the volunteers the opportunity to meet young people from all over the world. In terms of communication, the main watchword at the Center is diversity and open-mindedness. This is your chance to discover different cultures, and ideas and exchange experiences. The work accomplished on each camp is very important, the volunteers themselves are the main reason for Agape is able to keep organizing more and more projects every year. Thanks to a group of people living there all year long (the so-called Resident group), but also to the ecumenical and international community coming to help, the center has an effect on its visitors' life. As a volunteer, you will be asked to work with the Resident Group. Every Resident has a sector for which they are responsible (kitchen, cleaning, bar, maintenance,... and so on), in which you will help them, and each of the Residents will be there to help you and support you. You will have 6-7 working hours per day. The Centre will organize every year's national camps in the place and the international group will work in parallel with the permanent residence to guarantee the running of all other project schedules. Volunteers will help in the following tasks: kitchen, meal service (tables and dishes), cleaning, maintenance, bartending, and babysitting.

Partner

PARTNER : It’s been ten years that Lunaria and Agape are working side by side to create a space where people can meet in harmony. Agape International Ecumenical Centre is an important point of reference in Italian Protestantism, being for 70 years a place of education and development, theological exploration, political engagement, acceptance and validation of differences. A resident group still lives at Agape throughout the year. Agape was built after the Second World War as a sign of hope and reconciliation between people, thanks to the voluntary work of many young men and women. The dimensions of community and voluntary service remain fundamental.

Location

LOCATION AND LEISURE : Agape is in the Alps, close to Prali commune. Games, discussions, and outings can be organized during free time. Programmed activities (especially in the evening) are most of the time open to the volunteers, as long as they do not clash with work commitments. The place is beautiful but isolated, though you will stay together with many international participants attending the meetings of Agape.

Accomodation

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD : Volunteers will be host in 3-4 bed bedrooms with shared toilets on the floor. The meals are typical Italian Mediterranean cuisine, with limited consumption of meat for environmental reasons, and the possibility of choices for those who require a special diet. There is a washing machine available for the volunteers.

Requirements

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Volunteers should come ready to accomplish each task and with an open mind. Travel to Agape can be complicated, very isolated place .

Meeting point

TERMINAL : Torino-Caselle airport, and then Caselle Aeroporto train station.

Work

PEACE is the main theme of this project. The workcamp combines volunteering, learning from history, thinking about peace and the exchange with the local villagers in a special way. + Volunteering: There will be various smaller tasks in Hötensleben. You will be doing some maintenance work at the border memorial, mowing and building new wooden seating areas. Other small jobs for the local infrastructure will be added. + Learning from history: You will not only work on the border memorial, but will of course also be given a lot of background information on the history of the Iron Curtain and the division of Germany, as well as going on excursions to other thematically relevant places of interest. Thinking about peace: What is Peace for you? When and how is peace in danger? Share your personal point of view and the reality in your home country with other volunteers and with local villagers. + Exchange with local villagers: Peace will be one topic to share and to discuss, but you will also get to know local associations and be able to exchange ideas about everyday life today. They are very excited to meet you and will be glad to share stories with you about their experience in this border area. It would be great if you can speak a bit of German and/or are able to communicate with a phone translator.

You will be hosted in a very special village. From 1961 to 1989, the Wall with its martial border fortifications ran right next to the village. It divided Germany into two parts and was part of the so-called Iron Curtain. The people of Hötensleben lived in a restricted zone for almost 30 years and always had the Wall in view. To this day, 400 metres of the border fortifications have been preserved as a memorial and are visited by many visitors. Here you can find an impression of the border memorial: http://www.grenzdenkmal.com 2025 marks the 35th anniversary of German reunification. This should be taken as a sign of hope for Germany, Korea and the whole world and from the basis for further discussions. Questions about war and peace, migration and its causes, isolation and violence are unfortunately still very topical issues today. This project in Hötensleben gives you the opportunity to learn more about the time of the Iron Curtain and the division of Germany and to reflect on what peace means to you and how you can contribute to it. At the end, you will present your personal perspective on the topic of "peace" to the local villagers and discuss it with them. German speakers are therefore particularly welcome.

Location

Hötensleben is a little village with about 2,500 inhabitants. International workcamps have been taking place there for some 25 years, so local inhabitants are looking forward to welcome the volunteers. Many activities will be done together with locals, e.g. the voluntary fire brigade of Hötensleben. Volunteers should be interested in German contemporary history. We will work at and visit historical places and commemoration sites related to Germany’s history. You will be given bicycles so that you can be mobile in your free time and, for example, go to the swimming pool.

Accomodation

You will stay in the former village hall that is renovated now and includes several holiday apartments’. They offer a quite comfortable stay and ensure enough room for everyone. There are different sleeping rooms with beds provided and a good equipped kitchen as well. Wifi-acess is limited. Bear in mind that the ground floor of the building is used for different activites during the week, and don’t be scared if you see some unfamiliar faces roaming around! Your group of volunteers will be responsible for grocery shopping and cooking together. The food will be bought with the camp budget and everybody will take turns for cooking, washing the dishes and cleaning. In order to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, we encourage volunteers to reduce meat and try more sustainable dishes.

Requirements

Please add a short motivation letter to your application, describing your interest in this special project. You should be able to ride a bicycle!

Work

We invite 12 international volunteers to help continue the construction of the Celtic housing complex in Bopfingen. So far, seven workcamp groups, local volunteers of the community of Bopfingen and a team of professional craftsmen have been working on the three houses of the Celtic housing complex. Your task will be to continue the work there by finishing the walls and floors. The working place is set on the top of the hill “Ipf”, so you will be working outside a lot with a wonderful view over the region. All the materials you work with are natural materials like clay, wood, and stone. The work will be led by a professional instructor, so no previous experience is needed. Expect manual work! You will work around 30 hours per week, somewhere between 8am to 4pm from Monday to Friday with a 1-2 hour lunchbreak.

Partner

The town of Bopfingen invites an international workcamp for the seventh time this year! A couple years back, researchers found archaeological evidence from the Celtic people that used to live here thousands of years ago in the Iron Age. The town’s project for the next years is to rebuild some of the houses in Celtic style to show tourists how the Celts may have lived in this area. By participating to this project you contribute to protecting the local cultural heritage in a sustainable way (UN SDG 9 and 11). You will also be part of the strong partnership between international volunteers and this project in Bopfingen, as international workcamps have helped with building the complex almost every year.

Location

Bopfingen is a small town in southern Germany. It has a beautiful centre with a lot of houses in old German style. What makes Bopfingen special is the hill next to the town which is called “Ipf” with its flat plateau on the top. The “Ipf” has an important historical meaning in this area. In former times, the Celts lived there and until today a lot of archaeologists and historians come to explore the region. It is surrounded by beautiful nature where you can go for a walk or hike. Around Bopfingen, you will find various museums, the romantic historic city of Nördlingen, and the Ries (a large circular meteor impact crater with a diameter of 24 km). If you would like to visit a bigger city, Ulm is not far away with its famous cathedral and the highest church tower in the world.

Accomodation

You will be staying at a local gym hall at about 10 minutes walking distance from the city centre and 15 minutes from the train station. You will all sleep in the very big main room of the gym hall. Camp beds are provided but please bring your own sleeping bag! In the gym hall there is also a kitchen which you can use for cooking, tables and chairs, different toilets which can be separated by gender and one bathroom with one shower.

Meeting point

Please, try and arrive at “Bopfingen” train station between 1pm and 7pm on July 19th. Find the best connection on the German railway company's website: https://www.bahn.com/en

Work

Second oldest workcamp in YRS focuses on the natural protected reserve "Kraljevac" and what it has to offer to the locals and visitors. In order to preserve the important balance in the zone, volunteers will work on the areas around the lake, cleaning up the bank, taking care of the fishing place, restoring the paths, etc. There are also some bad plants (roots, invasive species) that need to be removed so that the eco-system can thrive. Also, some areas with long grass will be cut and restored in order. Benches and places for visitors will be fixed, if necessary.

Partner

The Sport Fishing Association “Deliblato Lake,” established in 2000, focuses on promoting sport fishing and nature conservation within the local community and among young people in Deliblato. It manages the Special Nature Reserve Kraljevac, a protected area recognized for its national importance by the Serbian government in 2009. In collaboration with Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS), the association organizes an international volunteer eco camp aimed at environmental education and sustainable development. YRS, founded in 1976, focuses on environmental protection, scientific creativity, and promoting voluntary service. Their initiatives aim to engage young people in international volunteer programs, fostering a global perspective on environmental conservation and sustainability.

Location

On the edge of Deliblatska peščara (Deliblato Sands, the largest sand area in Europe), in the midst of the Vojvodina plains, in the picturesque village of Deliblato, lies an oasis of peace—Special Nature Reserve Kraljevac. Lake Kraljevac with its floating and permanently anchored islands, surrounding reedbeds, woodlands, meadows, and pastures supports a rich diversity of plant and animal life. Floating islands continually change the surrounding landscape, so sometimes it all gives an impression of being in some magical lands. Those islands, together with the permanently anchored ones, are remnants of lowland peat bogs, globally one of the rarest and most threatened habitats, so they represent one of Serbia’s last refuges of the relict plant community of Marsh Fern and Grey Willow. The area is also part of an internationally important zone for protected birds (IBA). Many of them live in the surroundings or come by to eat. Purple and squacco heron (Ardea purpurea, Ardeola ralloides), night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), alcids (Alcidae) are just some among many different species that visit the area. During leisure hours, volunteers will have a chance to go on boat rides to get to know the surrounding nature. Also, excursions to the interesting places nearby can be organized. For the end, there is the possibility that the volunteers will participate in educational workshops with local children. Just bring the patience and smile, and it will be one unforgettable adventure!

Accomodation

All volunteers and camp leaders will be accommodated in the Education and Research Centre in Special Natural Reserve Kraljevac in 2-bed, 3-bed, and 5-bed rooms (linen included, sleeping bag is not required) with shared toilets and showers. Volunteers will be provided with a cute kitchen with all the facilities, and groceries will be brought to them so they can cook.

Requirements

There are no specific requirements, but if you want to enjoy your time more in more relaxed manner, bring appropriate clothes and sun protection, as well as a good mosquito repellent.

Meeting point

From Belgrade to Kovin there are numerous busses every day.
