The town of Pleurtuit welcomes you for its first international workcamp and needs you to embellish the church in the town center ! You will work on the renovation of the church walls, but also and above all, you will actively participate in the preservation of local endangered bird species that nest in the church. The project is to renovate the building without disturbing these rare birds. A great opportunity to discover the Emerald Coast, to have unforgettable encounters and to actively participate in the protection of biodiversity!

Partner

The elected officials of the municipality are very attached to their heritage and are delighted to welcome a group of young internationals to animate their territory for this first workcamp with Concordia! The environmental associations are also very satisfied with the development plan for the construction site: indeed, if the construction site takes place in September, it is to avoid disturbing birds nesting. These same associations will be happy to share their knowledge of these local species and activities are planned to allow you to learn more.

Location

Pleurtuit is a French town made up of around 7,000 residents, located in the north of the department of “Ille et Vilaine”. It is located 15 minutes away from the city of Dinard and 25 minutes away from Saint-Malo. It is also very close to the sea where you can go on many outings. If you want to know more about Pleurtuit and its history, it's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z_VnyZx744

Accomodation

You will sleep in two-person tents (provided by Concordia) in the municipal camping area, only a 5-minute walk away from the worksite ! The group activities and meals will take place in a room dedicated to the volunteers. The group will be sharing the different tasks of collective life together. A budget will be allocated to the group leaders and you will participate in the preparation of meals, run errands from the market and local producers, and prioritize healthy and seasonal products.

Requirements

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country. This project is supported by the program European Solidarity Corps for young people between 18 and 30 years. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria. The participation to the ESC volunteering teams is subjects to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en - Volunteers do not have to pay any fee (no sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project; - Volunteers need to enroll in the PASS, the European Solidarity Corps Portal; Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project; - Volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on basis of 8€/day, once they arrive on the project in France; - Volunteers will receive a financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established in accordance with their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets; - Volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.

Meeting point

The meeting point is set at the DINARD train station. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the infosheet, sent 4 weeks before the camp starts. Train reservations can be made approximately 4 months before departure on the SNCF website, link below: https://www.sncf-connect.com/ You will have first to get a train from Paris to RENNES, and then take a BreizhGo bus to get to Dinard: https://www.ter.sncf.com/bretagne/se-deplacer/prochains-departs/dinard-87478230 Please consider using low-carbon transportation (train or bus, rather than airplane) for a sustainable international workcamp.

You can literally experience all four seasons in one day! Please also take with you working clothes, gloves and shoes in addition to your swimsuit. Work

Come and experience a unique project in Avricourt, in the heart of Picardy! Join us in restoring the charming church of Avricourt, a true local heritage gem that withstood the challenges of World War I. Building on the work of previous teams, you’ll help renovate the church’s interior. On the agenda: traditional masonry, joint repairs, pillar restoration, and plasterwork. And there’s more! Depending on your skills and interests, surprises await you throughout this exciting project.

Partner

The village of Avricourt is a historical partner of ours. With just 500 residents, this small community goes above and beyond to warmly welcome volunteers: shared meals, dinner invitations, homemade jam, and fresh vegetables from the garden are just part of the tradition here. Plenty of interactions await you! Together with the support of the animation team, you’ll also have the opportunity to organize events and activities for the villagers and the local school children.

Location

Avricourt is located 15 km away from Noyon, in the North of Oise. In a central location in Picardie, you can visit Amiens, its cathedral and its “hortillonnages” (floating gardens), Compiegne and its imperial palace, Noyon and its historical centre. You can also hike in the surrounding countryside among cereal fields and small pasture valleys. If you are a nature lover, you could even discover the educational beehive with the school children and the beehives of a small local producer. A concert given by the local band in the church is planned the day before the departure.

Accomodation

You will have the village hall at your disposal as a place to live, which includes a well-equipped kitchen (community oven, dishwasher, big fridge etc.). Individual tents will be provided as well as a fallback solution in the village hall in case of bad weather. Please note that only one shower and one toilet will be available on site. The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. A budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the grocery shopping and in the preparation of meals, prioritising healthy products from local producers.

Requirements

Please bring work clothes for the construction site and tight shoes. Don’t forget your sleeping bag as well as a floor mat for more comfort. (Paris Airports : Paris-Beauvais, CDG, Orly)

Notes:

People who are over 35 years old are also encouraged to apply to this workcamp! We'd like to have an inter-generational workcamp with this project. At the end of the workcamp, you will help to dismantle the campsite and to transport all the material to Prague where it will be stored during winter.

Partner

The workcamp is organised in cooperation with EUROSOLAR. This organization promotes renewable energies and a sustainable lifestyle through educating young people about the environment and organizing summer camps for children, youth, and families to promote environmental awareness. The workcamp takes place in a remote but exceptionally beautiful, hilly area of the Bohemian Forest, near the western border of the Czech Republic. The campsite is isolated from civilization . Volunteers are welcome in trying out a basic and active lifestyle in the forest. The main goal is to help maintain meadows in a nature-protected area and maintain the campsite. At this workcamp, you will actively contribute to the achievement of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goal 15 Life on Land.

Location

Location: The workcamp takes place in the Bohemian Forest near Stara Knizeci Hut. The campsite is located in the valley of the Celni stream, an isolated part of the village of Lesna in the Bohemian Forest near the German border. There is limited phone coverage. You can visit the ruins of the Zahaji castle or go on trips to nearby towns (e.g. Marianske Lazne). The project is situated on the border with Germany; a trip to Germany could be an option. Besides, you can try archery, play games or experience an Indian sauna. If you have any games, musical instruments or any other activity you could share or teach the group in the campsite conditions, you are welcome to bring them. Study part: It includes evening discussions about climate crisis, environment, sustainability and sustainable camps around the fire. You will have the unique opportunity to try archery, participate in fun games and learn to recognize the stars. Also, as you will be living in close contact with nature, you will improve your camping skills and learn a lot about local fauna and flora.

Accomodation

Volunteers will be accommodated in tee-pees with a fireplace in the centre. You will sleep on wooden pads and mattresses stuffed with hay. Nights in the forest might be very cold, even frosty, so bring a very warm sleeping bag, camping mat and some warm clothes. Work

A 14th-century fortress close to Belgrade awaits volunteers of the 15th workcamp to uncover the mysteries of this historical site in the Vojvodina plains. The task will involve conservation work on the structure, carried out alongside archaeologists and possibly some students. There will also be excavation work and cleaning of artifacts (metals and bones) that are discovered. A unique aspect of this year’s workcamp is the repair of certain sections of the fortress walls, an effort that has not taken place for many years. On some days, participants may engage in removing invasive plants and collecting trash in the surrounding area, which pose a threat to the fortress. Midway through the camp, the popular local festival "Kupinik – Days of Dragons," dedicated to medieval themes, will be held at the fortress. Volunteers will assist in its organization and also have the opportunity to participate in various activities, including workshops and games, while gaining valuable new skills.

Partner

Association "Zeleni pogled" (Green Look) from Kupinovo was registered on June 2, 2015. The main topics they deal with are volunteerism (work with kids and youth in the popularization of ecological topics through workshops, lectures, workcamps), environmental protection (education of people in ecological topics through workshops, lectures, workcamps), and preservation of cultural heritage (organizing cultural events, competitions, festivals, publishing books, collecting works of art, protecting old crafts, educating youth through workshops, lectures, and, you'll guess, that's right—visits to the museums). Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS) was founded in 1976. Our main aims are environmental protection and education, promotion of sustainable development, work with young people in an international context, promotion of scientific creativity and voluntarism and its values. Voluntary Service of Serbia is a volunteer exchange service center founded in 1990 as one of the sectors of YRS.

Location

Kupinovo is a village in the municipality of Pećinci, Serbia. According to the 2011 census, the village has 1,866 inhabitants. It is located near the famous biodiversity area, the Obedska Bara (Obedska Pond or Bog). Kupinovo is rich in cultural and historical landmarks, including the Kupinik Fortress, a medieval fortification from the 14th century; the Church of Saint Luke from the mid-15th century, the oldest Serbian church in the area; the Church of Mother Angelina from the 16th century; and the ethno-complex featuring traditional folk architecture. At the edge of the village, a vast forest begins, offering pleasant daily walks. The nearby Sava River also provides a relaxing leisure activity, with swimming being possible, although the beach is not large or arranged. As the village has limited activities and a small local youth population, the days can feel long. This setting may suit those seeking a break from fast-paced civilization but could be challenging for those who prefer a more dynamic environment. Group preferences will shape different activities, and at least one visit to Belgrade, Serbia’s capital and a cultural gem, is planned, as there are frequent daily buses. While the surrounding area has some museums and aqua parks, transportation is not the most convenient, so creativity and flexibility in planning are welcome. Ultimately, this project can be an incredible experience or a slow one—it all depends on the group. That’s why we recommend bringing patience and a smile, as they will help turn your stay into an unforgettable adventure in this remote Serbian village with friendly locals!

Accomodation

The volunteers will stay either in two renovated ethno-houses in the Ethno Park in Kupinovo or in the house where the previous village offices were (the precise information will be provided in the Infosheet). In any case, accommodation will be in beds indoors. The food will be prepared for the volunteers by local housewives, with a focus on national cuisine. Traditional Serbian dishes, often featuring creatively prepared meat, will be served, but vegetarian meals will also be available.
