VIN’s Environmental and Conservation Programs raise community awareness of critical environmental issues and develop effective solutions. VIN runs various ecological projects that aim to conserve, promote, and protect the environment and culture while preventing, mitigating, and controlling water, land, and air pollution to enhance the health, safety, and welfare of current and future generations. We utilize permaculture for sustainable farming and have been teaching and implementing it since 2018. We believe that permaculture plays a vital role in restoring the entire ecosystem! Agriculture provides subsistence and employment for 80% of Nepal's population, accounting for approximately 39% of the total GDP. The sector's development is crucial for empowering those who rely on it and for the national economy. Since Nepal is in the Himalayan region, climate change has significantly impacted the country. Water sources are drying up, new types of moths and insects have emerged, and the timing of crop cultivation has shifted. Unexpected climate changes, unpredictable rainfall, droughts, and more are the consequences of global warming that Nepalese farmers are facing.
As a volunteer, you will collaborate with the farmer’s VIN, which specializes in permaculture. The work is typically hands-on, and you’ll design the farm according to permaculture principles, including cultivating crops, weeding, irrigating, gathering materials, digging, and creating beds. Support farmers in making organic fertilizers like compost. Observe, interact, learn and implement.

Background/Project: Environmental protection ranks among the most urgent priorities in the modern world. Key aspects include tackling solid waste management issues in urban and rural Nepal, significantly impacting the environment and public health. Solid waste, a by-product of human activities, is increasing due to rapid urbanization, improved living standards, and changing consumption patterns. Effective waste management can turn it into a valuable resource, while poor handling leads to severe environmental degradation and health hazards. In VIN’s working communities, including schools, improper waste disposal, such as food remains and other materials, is a significant problem. These issues contribute to littering and elevate the potential for public health crises. Children are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of poor waste management, facing risks such as respiratory problems from dumping site dust, diarrhea, skin diseases, and eye infections.
Objective: Prevent and control water, land, and air pollution through environmental education and cleaning activities. Activities:- Organize the waste management /Community clean-up campaign involving community people. Train local people on garbage management using the 3R principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (segregation, disposal, domestic methodology for making compost fertilizer, etc.) Develop a kitchen garden concept and train the households to implement it.
Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) Established in 2005, Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that takes a comprehensive approach to community development. It assists Nepal’s most marginalized populations. VIN recruits numerous local and international volunteers each year to achieve this objective. Our primary mission is to improve the quality of life for underprivileged individuals through community empowerment, using volunteering as our strategy for development initiatives.
Jitpurphedi community is located in Tarakeshwor Municipality, on the outskirts of Kathmandu District. It is 10-15 km from the main ring road to Balaju, Kathmandu, covered with hills, fields, and woods.
The volunteers will stay with the host family/hostel identified by VIN. The living facilities are simple and basic. Male and female volunteers will share the same living area with separate rooms. The volunteers sleep on simple beds/mattresses. Please bring your sleeping bag.
Basic English should be spoken among the participants Physically sound as per the project requirements.
One of the VIN staff will pick up volunteers from the airport. Please send your flight details to VIN on time so we can send your name card and VIN logo to our staff. If you want to explore the country earlier, you can take a pre-paid taxi at the airport, or VIN can help you with that. You can arrive at the VIN office on the first day.

SEEDS volunteers will have the opportunity to work on the historical island of Vioey for the 19th year in a row with our host, the city of Reykjavik. Vioey is a popular destination during the summer among Icelandic and foreign visitors. Volunteers will help prepare the island for the summer season. Volunteers will beautify the surroundings by cleaning up the area, especially along the coastline, for instance by hand-picking garbage or collecting trash blown by the wind or brought by the sea to the shores and surroundings.SEEDS volunteers may carry out some gardening activities as well and possibly make and maintain walking paths. Well maintained paths enable people to visit the island without damaging it and this important work also helps to improve safety for visitors. Depending on the advance of the project and weather conditions, volunteers may have other possible tasks such as checking up and repairing garden furniture. The working day normally runs from 09:00 - 17:00 with breaks for lunch and coffee; however, please be prepared for some flexibility due to the nature of Iceland s changeable weather, as we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned. The temperature in May can drop during the evenings. Volunteers should have motivation to work outside and work in all kinds of weather, as it can get cold and rainy. The working plan is flexible and it will depend on the needs of our host. No previous experience is necessary.
SEEDS programme combines learning, sharing, hands-on activities, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, exploring the city and its attractions, as stunning natural attractions in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances during activities and sightseeing.
Vioey or Wood Island is the largest (1.7 km) island in the Kollafjorour Bay, just outside Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. The island is covered by many species of plants and at least 30 species of breeding birds have been counted here. Vioey was inhabited soon after the settlement of Iceland in the 10th century. In the beginning of the 20th century, around 100 people lived there. Today the island is uninhabited. There is a regular ferry connection between the island and the harbour of Reykjavik. The island is only a few hundred metres away from the city and the trip takes a few minutes. This makes Vioey so special; it is a peaceful place, very close to the busy city life of the capital. There are hiking and cycling paths around the island and there is no motor traffic allowed. It also features intriguing sculptural artwork, amongst them all nine pairs of basalt pillars that comprise Richard Serra s work Afangar and Yoko Ono s Imagine Peace column, a tower of light, which is supported by the widow of John Lennon. Other places of interest on Vioey are related to archaeological research.
SEEDS volunteers will be lodged in a local house on Vioey Island, in shared rooms. The facilities are equipped with a kitchen, shower, and a washing machine. Everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. Participants will sleep in shared rooms. Please bring your own sleeping bag.Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.
LANGUAGE: English will be the language in the camp; intermediate conversational skills are needed. It may be very cold and/or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) and good walking shs, as some of the activities take place outdoors.

Bring History Back to Life at the Manoir de Lilly! Step back in time and join the restoration of the Manoir de Lilly, a site rich in history and mystery. Historical records suggest that the ponds you'll be working on could date back to the Middle Ages! Your mission: clear overgrown vegetation overtaking the ancient stone walls, revealing their original beauty. You'll also maintain the ponds, preserving the site's historical and natural elements. With hands-on work and fascinating discoveries, you’ll learn restoration techniques from passionate experts. But this project is more than hard work – it’s an adventure! You'll experience teamwork, cultural exchanges, and unforgettable moments with young volunteers from all over the world. Who knows what hidden secrets the site might reveal? Are you ready to leave your mark on the history of the Manoir de Lilly?
The Manoir de Lilly Association, a new partner of Concordia, aims to restore the manor's gardens and stables to create an educational space for children. Volunteers will help shape the future of this site through hands-on restoration efforts. This project showcases a commitment to preserving historical heritage while providing young international volunteers with a meaningful learning experience. The manor's owner and the association are dedicated to welcoming volunteers and ensuring an enriching, friendly experience. Set in a rustic, secluded environment, this project offers a unique opportunity to preserve a remarkable site while bonding with the local community.
Lilly is a picturesque Norman village in the Eure department, surrounded by lush green landscapes. It’s located between Rouen and Évreux, offering access to Normandy’s cultural and historical treasures, including Rouen Cathedral, the Jumièges and Bec-Hellouin abbeys, and the Seine River loops. With forests and meadows surrounding Lilly, it’s ideal for hiking, wildlife observation, and exploring Normandy’s rural heritage. Nearby, volunteers can visit the medieval Château d’Harcourt, the charming village of Lyons-la-Forêt, or Giverny, famous for Monet’s gardens. The animation team will organize outings and activities to fully explore the region's historical and natural wonders.
You'll stay in tents in the manor's gardens, with a marquee set up as a communal living space. Toilets and a shower are available in the owner’s building, as well as in an additional caravan. Note: the caravan has dry toilets (which require cleaning), and the shower needs to be manually heated. The living conditions are rustic, adding to the charm of the site’s history. Community life will be central to the experience: share daily tasks and cook together. A camp leader will manage the budget for grocery shopping, encouraging the use of fresh, local, and seasonal products for healthy and mostly vegetarian meals.
This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program for young people aged 18-30. Volunteers must meet the ESC criteria and follow the guidelines listed here: European Solidarity Corps. - No participation or sending fees are required. Volunteers will receive financial support for travel, depending on distance and ticket submission. - Volunteers must register on the PASS portal, after which Concordia will confirm their participation. - Volunteers will receive pocket money of 6€/day upon arrival. - A participation report must be completed online via the portal.
The meeting is planned at GISORS Train Station, May 14th at the end of the day. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the info sheet, sent at least 4 weeks before the beginning of the workcamp. From PARIS, regular trains (around 1 per hour) leave from Saint Lazare train station for Gisors train station (1 hour trip). The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/ If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress-free travel.
- Bring work clothes and closed shoes for the site. - Since accommodations are in tents (provided by Concordia), bring a sleeping bag and either a mat or camping mattress for comfort. - Don’t forget a bathing suit if you have the opportunity to swim! Feel free to bring local specialties, photos, musical instruments, or anything you’d like to share with the group or the local population. - EU volunteers must bring their EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and all participants need to have insurance coverage. You want to contribute to the revitalization of a rural community and connect with locals? Join a team of volunteers to set up a guinguette and bring a lively meeting place to life in the heart of Gers, one of the most welcoming regions in France! In Preignan, a dynamic village surrounded by nature, you will help breathe new life into L’Hydroberge, a community café cherished by locals. The goal of this project is to transform this alternative space into a hub for connection and exchange while upholding values of inclusion, equality, and eco-responsibility. On-site, you will take part in preparing the venue for the summer season by building a pizza oven and outdoor wooden furniture. No prior experience is required—if you’ve never done masonry or carpentry before, don’t worry, everything can be learned on-site! What truly matters is your motivation and willingness to bring creativity to this project full of potential. Your stay will also be filled with exciting activities and local tourism, ensuring an immersive experience in the life of the village.
During the project, you will be ambassadors of L’Hydroberge, a former mill that has become a true community hub. This café is now a cornerstone for locals, combining culture, conviviality, and creativity. L’Hydroberge hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including jam sessions, thematic fairs (eco-construction, wellness, cosplay), book signings, conferences, and concerts. During your stay, you will have the chance to take part in one of these jam sessions. Music instruments will be available, but you can bring your own to join the lively musical atmosphere of the venue. This is the perfect opportunity to meet residents, exchange ideas, and experience a rich and dynamic immersion in local life.
L’Hydroberge is located in Preignan, a charming village in Gers, at the heart of the Occitanie region in southern France. This picturesque village, with everything you need nearby, is just a stone’s throw from Auch, the city of d’Artagnan, known for its rich history. Preignan hosts fascinating remnants such as an ancient villa visible on the ridges. The village’s Romanesque church, at its center, was built on a former Merovingian cemetery, offering a true journey through time. The Rambert Mill, home to L’Hydroberge, is itself a historic monument and a symbol of local life. If you love history and authenticity, Gers is the ideal place to explore France in a unique way. You can discover the Santiago de Compostela trails, visit archaeological sites like the Gallo-Roman villa of Seviac, and more! The region is also home to the Occitan language, adding even more charm to its rich character.
You will sleep in individual tents (provided by Concordia) with access to sanitary facilities, showers, and a kitchen. Everyone will take turns preparing meals and managing the living space (organizing schedules, cleaning, shopping, etc.). Tasks will be shared collectively, and meals will be prepared together (mainly vegetarian). A budget will be allocated to the team leaders, and you will participate in grocery shopping, prioritizing healthy and locally sourced products. Laundry will be done by hand. Wi-Fi is not available
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for them, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country. This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program for young people between 18 and 30. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria. The participation to ESC volunteering teams is subjected to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en - Volunteers do not have to pay any fee (neither sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project and will receive financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established depending on their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets; - Volunteers need to enrol in the PASS, the ESC Portal; then Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project; - Volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on the basis of 6€/day, once they arrive at the project in France; - Volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.
