Do you love heritage and nature and want to be part of a project with a positive impact? Come and contribute to the development of a path in Clermont L'Herault where the Caylus “calade” (traditional streets made of stones) is located. This path will take you to a hill that overlooks the town. The municipality wishes to maintain its paths for the pleasure of hikers. Discover the rich heritage of the town, with its archaeological oppidum, its “capitelles” (huts made of dry stones) and old dry stone walls, and its calades. Your work will consist of enhancing the site by carrying out small-scale landscaping work, clearing undergrowth and making small improvements to the existing calade. This work is therefore essential to maintain the path while allowing visitors, walkers and the curious people of all horizons to come and discover this rich heritage!
Since 2015, we have had a very strong partnership with the town of Clermont l'Herault and local associations that promote the discovery of local heritage. The offices of our delegation are located in the town. We carry out several volunteer projects for young people in the area. We work together with volunteers from local heritage associations. This project concerning the enhancement of the calade on the communal path participates in and contributes to the enhancement of the commune's heritage.
Clermont L'Herault is a charming little town located north of Montpellier in the South of France. With the advantage of a Mediterranean climate and a remarkable natural environment (Lac du Salagou, rivers of the Gorges de l'Hérault nearby), it also has a rich cultural heritage with its castle and cathedral. In the heart of a preserved environment, you can enjoy the pleasure of outdoor activities and make cultural and festive discoveries.
Accommodation will be at the Lac du Salagou campsite. Sleeping in individual tents (bring your own sleeping bag and camping mat). The campsite has all the comforts for daily and collective life. You will share the various collective tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the leaders and you will participate in the grocery shopping and the preparation of meals, buying if possible healthy and local products.
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for them, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country. This project is supported by the program European Solidarity Corps for young people between 18 and 30 years. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria. The participation to the ESC volunteering teams is subjects to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en Volunteers do not have to pay any fee (no sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project; Volunteers need to enroll in the PASS, the European Solidarity Corps Portal; Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project; Volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on basis of 6€/day, once they arrive on the project in France; Volunteers will receive a financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established in accordance with their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets; Volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.

You'll be helping to enhance our heritage by maintaining and cleaning up the riverbeds and rebuilding small dry-stone walls. You'll build a special bond with the local people who live along these waterways, and you'll also be at the heart of a festive energy by helping to set up one of the village's flagship events, "Le feu de la Saint-Jean" (St John's bonfire).
The historical particularity of the town of Cause de Clérans comes from its two market towns, "Cause" and "Clérans", which have been united for a very long time. One had a defensive function with its castle and the other a religious function with its church. Our international workcamp is waiting for you to perpetuate this age-old link. Together with the locals, we'll be helping to maintain and promote the local heritage, both in terms of the environment and the village's essential festivities. The spirit of cooperation and conviviality are characteristics that define the way of life around here. Join us and enjoy the good life at Cause de Clérans.
You will be welcomed on the edge of the village of Cause de Clérans, you will be in a rural environment and will meet the inhabitants of the area. Leisure activities: During your stay, you will have the opportunity to participate in local festivities and cultural events, to discover the region and to organise your programme of activities with the other volunteers and the leaders.
You'll stay in tents on our summer camp with its lovely panoramic views. Access to dry toilets and showers on site. Individual tents or tents for two will be provided, as well as sleeping mats. Remember to bring your sleeping bag and a pillow. You will prepare the menus and meals together, taking into account the season, everyone's needs and the pleasure of sharing together.
From Bordeaux airport, take a shuttle to Bordeaux-Saint-Jean train station. You will take a direct train to Lalinde (around 1-hour journey)
