In collaboration with a local NGO, "Youth for Smile," a youth organization, is embarking on an ambitious project to transform the abandoned former orphanage in Lauderi village into a vibrant non-formal education training centre. This workcamp activity aims to engage volunteers in revitalizing the surrounding area and the interior of the building, setting the stage for a future hub of learning and community development. The project activity will take place in Lauderi village, where the dormant training centre stands as a testament to untapped potential. This picturesque village provides the perfect backdrop for community-driven initiatives, and the youth organization envisions transforming the old orphanage into a lively educational space. Project Goals: Revitalizing the Park and Surrounding Area: Volunteers will work collaboratively to clean and rejuvenate the park surrounding the former orphanage. This includes clearing debris, landscaping, and creating a welcoming outdoor space for the future training centre. Interior Cleanup: In addition to the exterior, volunteers will venture inside the building to tackle the accumulated remnants of years of abandonment. This involves removing old and broken furniture, clothes, and other items that hinder the potential of the space. Community Engagement: The project aims to foster a sense of community among volunteers and local residents. Through shared efforts, participants will not only contribute to the physical transformation of the training centre but also build lasting connections with the community.
Jaunatne smaidam / Youth for Smile is a non-profit, non-governmental youth organization founded in 2005. Our organization is dedicated to fostering the intellectual, creative, and personal development of young people through various initiatives. With a mission to create, experience, and be together, we aim to provide opportunities that empower local communities and contribute to the growth of youth on both local and international levels. Our organization's primary goals are threefold: creating, experiencing, and being together. We strive to enable local communities to learn, participate, and self-realize (Creating), offer experiences at the local and international levels to promote personal development among young people (Experience), and cultivate an environment where young individuals can develop competencies for the growth of their communities (Being together). The organization is committed to fulfilling these goals through a range of tasks and programs. These include: 1. Youth Initiatives: We actively develop and promote youth initiatives, fostering favorable conditions for intellectual and creative development. 2. Non-formal Education: Providing young people with opportunities to acquire essential life skills, knowledge, and competencies through non-formal education. 3. Leisure Time Activities: Offering opportunities for young individuals to make good use of their leisure time in meaningful ways. 4. Information Access: Ensuring young people have access to relevant information for their developmental needs. To address the needs of youth with fewer opportunities, we implement outdoor education and adventure pedagogy through various non-formal education programs. Additionally, our international voluntary work camps program promotes intercultural learning, community development, and peace education. In low-populated areas, we conduct mobile youth work, providing essential youth services where municipalities may not cover them. Advocacy at the regional level is a crucial aspect of our work, advocating for the quality of youth work and the development of participatory youth policy. Furthermore, our active involvement in traditional folk and cultural events aims to introduce these aspects to the youth, preserving cultural heritage and fostering a sense of community. DIY workshops are organized to support young people in learning practical skills necessary for life. While the organization was established in 2005, we have grown to be a values-based youth association with a significant impact on local communities and the personal development of young individuals. Our commitment to creating, experiencing, and being together drives our efforts to empower the youth and contribute to the well-being of the broader community.
The workcamp is set to take place in Lauderi village, situated in the Ludza municipality in the eastern part of Latvia. Ludza, the administrative center of the municipality, is the closest city, located 32 km away. Additionally, the village is approximately 310 km from Rīga, the capital city of Latvia. The nearby city of Zilupe is approximately 11 km away. Lauderi is a small village nestled in the eastern part of Latvia, surrounded by scenic landscapes. The village is home to around 190 inhabitants, creating a close-knit and community-oriented setting. Ludza, the administrative center, offers a mix of historical and cultural attractions. Participants can explore Ludza during their leisure time to get a taste of regional life. Volunteers will have the opportunity to explore various cultural and historical places around Lauderi. This may include visits to local landmarks, historical sites, and places of significance. Participants are encouraged to organize intercultural events, providing a platform for cultural exchange within the diverse group of volunteers. Sharing traditions and customs enhances the overall workcamp experience. Given the small size of Lauderi village, volunteers can engage with local residents to learn about their way of life, traditions, and perhaps participate in community activities. For those who wish to explore beyond Lauderi, the official tourism website of Latvia provides insights into various destinations and experiences throughout the country: https://www.latvia.travel/en Leisure Recommendations: Nature Excursions: Take advantage of the rural surroundings for nature walks, hikes, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the Latvian countryside. Local Cuisine Experience: Explore local eateries or participate in cooking sessions to savor traditional Latvian cuisine. Interactive Workshops: Organize workshops or activities that allow participants to share aspects of their cultures, creating a dynamic exchange of ideas and traditions. The workcamp in Lauderi village offers not only the opportunity for meaningful contributions but also a chance to immerse oneself in the unique charm of a Latvian village. Participants are encouraged to make the most of their leisure time, fostering cultural exchange and creating lasting memories during the workcamp.
Volunteers participating in the workcamp will experience simple and basic living conditions. Accommodation will be provided in a nearby organization house, ensuring proximity to the working space for convenience. While the facilities may be basic, the goal is to create a communal and immersive experience. Sleeping Arrangements: Volunteers will be provided with beds for their stay. It is recommended that volunteers bring their sleeping bags for added comfort during the nights. Toilets and Washing Facilities: Basic toilet and washing facilities will be available on-site, ensuring that volunteers have essential amenities for their daily needs. Kitchen Setup: Volunteers will have access to a simple kitchen within the organization house. The kitchen is equipped with the essentials needed for preparing meals. Self-Catering: Cooking responsibilities will be delegated to the volunteers themselves. This self-catering approach fosters a sense of teamwork and collaboration, allowing participants to share cooking duties and create a communal atmosphere. International Evening: As a delightful addition to the cultural exchange aspect of the workcamp, volunteers are encouraged to bring traditional or typical food items from their home countries. These contributions will be part of an international evening, providing an opportunity for everyone to share and savor a diverse array of flavors from around the world. Additional Recommendations: Personal Essentials: Volunteers are advised to bring personal toiletries, towels, and any specific items they may need for their stay. Adaptability: Given the basic living conditions, a flexible and adaptable mindset is recommended. Embracing the simplicity of the accommodation enhances the overall workcamp experience. The focus of the accommodation and food arrangements is to create a communal living environment where volunteers can collaborate, share cultural experiences, and contribute to the success of the workcamp while enjoying the unique aspects of each participant's background.

This work camp is for nature lovers, since the work will be mainly outdoors. There is a lot of work around the natural reserve “Upahl-Lenzen”. Since it’s not possible to use common agricultural techniques, volunteers have to do everything manually. More over every meadow around has to be cut and the grass have to be put aside. The aim of this project is to help to protect this unique reserve through your contribution. This project will be done in cooperation with the environmental agency of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
This project is organized by NiG e.V., a german non-profit and non-government organization. In this project we work together with the local agency for agriculture and environment.
Lohmen is a village in the middle of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is surrounded by the nature reserve Upahl-Lenzen. It has about 850 inhabitants but also many possibilities for outdoor activities like a labyrinth, sports grounds and an archeological nature trail. There is a lake in walking distance where you can swim and also much nature to enjoy in general. Leisure time activities: Excursions (swimming, short trips) can be planned.
The volunteers will stay at the building of a former kindergarten. Food (also vegetarian/ vegan) is included, but meals have to be prepared by the volunteers. (we like to do international cooking days, so every nation cooks one typical/traditional meal for everyone) On the last weekend, we arrrange a trip to Rostock (next biggest city, directly at the sea) and stay in our office accomodation. There we have the opportunity, to either go the beach or into clubs and stuff like this :)
Please bring a sleeping bag, working clothes (gloves), a mattress pad (and good motivation :D).
BE CAREFUL! There are two different villages called "Lohmen" in Germany. The workcamp will be in that Lohmen between Guestrow and Goldberg in the region Mecklenburg Western Pomerania.

You will be involved in making organic herbal tea. It is an important way of promoting local traditions and products in Nova Lhota. You will learn to recognize various herbs, collect them and make herbal mixtures. To see the whole production process, they will help in the social enterprise in Nova Lhota where the herbal teas are packaged (grind and filter dried herbs, fill the boxes with tea bags and wrap them in foil on the machines in the tea production workshop, etc). In a natural garden, you will help with weeding, mulching and/or other small jobs. In the village of Nova Lhota, you will help with the maintenance of public spaces. Bring suitable clothes and shoes that can get dirty and a raincoat. No previous experience with this kind of work is required.
This project is organized in cooperation with Nova Lhota, a small Moravian village located in the White Carpathian Mountains on the Slovak border. The village runs an eco-centre and is very active in environmental activities and education. In the village, herbal tea blends from local types of herbs are produced. The project aims to involve volunteers in collecting herbs and fruits, getting to know the local culture and nature, and maintaining the public spaces, greenery and valuable flowery meadows. In this project, you will actively contribute to achieving UN SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and UN SDG15 Life on Land.
The project takes place in the small village of Nova Lhota surrounded by the nature of the White Carpathians. The collection of herbs and minor garden work takes place in the natural garden at the Karpaty Ecocentre. The herbs are then processed in a nearby building, in a small factory of regional teas. In the village, there is a grocery and general store, a hostel, 2 playgrounds, a school, a cultural centre, and a church. ATMs or pharmacies are located in bigger towns Velka nad Velickou (10km) and Uherske Hradiste (30km). The region is famous for its folk traditions and beautiful countryside. You can go on a trip to Straznice or Skalice, visit wine cellars, the Bata canal, the windmill in Kuzelov, go on a hike and reach the highest peak of the White Carpathian Mountains – Velka Javorina. You can get involved in guided creative leisure activities in the eco-centre, which will support group cohesion and beautify the garden area (e.g. mosaics, decorations from nature, houses for insects or pictures painted with clay pigments, etc.).
Accommodation will be provided in a tourist hostel in Nova Lhota. You will sleep in rooms on bunk beds with duvets and pillows. There are 5 rooms (2 x four-bedroom, 2 x six-bedroom, 1 x eight-bedroom). There are bathrooms, a dining room with a fully equipped kitchen, WIFI, a washing machine and relaxing spaces in front and behind the building. For two days you will stay at a farm in Travicna and sleep in a natural wooden cottage or the open air. Thus, bring a mat and a sleeping bag. You will cook for yourself in cooking teams from provided ingredients.
Bring your sleeping bag, a mat, clothes and shoes for work, a raincoat, a good mood and a willingness to meet others. There is a strict no-alcohol policy in the place of accommodation. This project is suitable for volunteers who like nature and learning about the environment and local traditions. You will spend a lot of time outdoors so you can get into contact with different kinds of plants, herbs, pollen, and insects. There is a risk of allergies to hay and grass. This project is supported by the EU program European Solidarity Corps. Some of the conditions differ from the usual projects; there will be detailed info provided after your acceptance. For more info about ESC visit https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity_en.

The Broa route covers 13.8 km of paths steeped in history that cross indigenous forests in an area of high heritage and landscape value. This project seeks to adapt to the new ways of occupying free time, thus promoting the recovery of paths, toponymy, the management of the forest and the connection of people with the environment that surrounds them. MAIN LINES OF INTERVENTION OF VOLUNTARY ACTION - Enablement and preparation of spaces for reflection in nature: 3 points on the route will be equipped to invite visitors to enjoy a space for reflection and visual and mental recreation. - Creation of the treasure route: The route will hide treasures that must be identified by the walkers. Through the installation of a QR code, visitors will be able to accompany the hiking activity with a treasure hunt activity/challenge. Along the way, they will have to find a variety of items that will allow them to finish the challenge successfully. - Recovery of the traditional toponymy and emblematic corners: The volunteers will prepare and install new wooden signs that make visible emblematic places of the route, which recover the toponymy and locate the populated areas, which will facilitate a greater compression of the territory.

The general objective of the work camp is to show the environmental reality of a territory and how to intervene in it by: 1. Contributing to the improvement and conservation of the Natural Area of Sils wetlands. 2. Knowing the biodiversity and the characteristic habitats of these humid zones 3. Knowing the land stewardship, the actors in the territory that participate and good practices. 4. Transmitting values of cooperation and respect towards the environment and its inhabitants. 5. Offering a space for exchange and discovery of the different realities of the participants, mainly in environmental issues and for the conservation and management of natural spaces. 6. Encouraging responsible consumption in every way. On the one hand, as an important measure for our environment; on the other hand, in the use of new technologies and other aspects related to the care of oneself and the community. 7. Promoting participants to become diffusers. 8. Showing Catalan culture through vividness and networking. The technical work that will be done: Sils Lake is a protected natural area included in the Plan of Spaces of Natural Interest (PEIN) of Catalonia. It is part of the European Network of Natural Spaces Natura 2000, which is at the core of European biodiversity policies. In recent centuries, areas of natural flooding have receded and today they are scarce in Catalonia. In our Mediterranean context, the conservation of spaces such as the Sils Lake has become of the highest interest. Due to its special humidity and flood conditions, several species of flora and fauna characteristic of wetlands are still preserved in this area. That is why the restoration of this area has been carried out since last year, to make it a biodiversity reserve of both fauna and flora and an important point of rest, food and shelter for a large variety of birds and other animals. During the summer of last year, the third international field of work was carried out at Sils Lake in order to recover the sheet of water and restore the adjacent areas and infrastructure. However, there were many tasks left to do due to the situation in the pond. That is why this year we want to continue with the work begun and focus on all the things that were left to us. The spaces where volunteers will work are: - Permanent lagoon. - Old viewpoint. - Water canal. - Infraestructures. Each space has associated tasks to be performed this year, of which a detailed technical sheet has been prepared for the work to be done, indicating the spaces where they will be performed. These tasks are: - Elimination of invasive flora. - Make deeper two ponds. - Nest box tracking. - Maintenance and restoration of infrastructure. - Fixation of points of insolation on the shores and garbage collection.
Emys Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of nature, specially wetlands and also the terrapin Emys orbicularis, that give the name to the Foundation. Born in 2003, Emys foundation is located close to Riudarenes in a country farm called Can Moragues. Emys orbicularis is the native terrapin of Catalunya, north Africa and most parts of Europe. In 1987 a group of young people discovered through a talk that in his region there was an endangered terrapin, the Emys orbicularis. They decided to do something to help that species. Those people started doing custody agreements with local territory owners to protect ponds, streams and lakes. And this is how Emys Foundation starts. Actually Emys orbicularis is still endangered because of the destruction of the habitat, exotic species and water contamination. In the Selva region we found the best preserved population in Catalonia with more than 500 animals.. The organization works with a conciliatory view, where the challenge is involving the owners, managers and users of the territory in the natural heritage values, its sustainable management and its long-term conservation. All this is done by voluntary work, land stewardship, research, conservation, education and consciousness-raising. The organization has been ground-breaking in the field of amphibian and reptiles and has been awarded on different occasions. The research projects made by Emys Foundation receive advice from investigation groups of different Universities (University of Barcelona, University Autonoma of Barcelona, University of Girona and also the Aranzadi Science Society). The technicians of Emys Foundation are also university investigators and take part actively in the writing and publication of scientist articles, congress executions and technical conferences. All the information collected in the research projects of the Foundation is used to evaluate and improve our methods of natural environmental management.
Sils will be your accommodation town in your stage in Catalunya. Sils is a municipality and town of the “comarca de la Selva”. It is located at the bottom of the “comarca” plain and its southern third was occupied until the mid-nineteenth century by the lake of Sils, which we will restore. The town has 6.093 citizens and it’s located near Girona, Lloret de Mar or Sta. Coloma de Farners. Lake Sils is a protected natural area in accordance with the legislation of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and has been proposed to be included in the European Natura 2000 network. It is the remains of a lagoon that was drained in the past in order to obtain new farmland and fight malaria. However, thanks to the conditions of special humidity and the annual floods, species of flora and fauna characteristic of the humid zones are still conserved. In recent centuries, areas of natural flooding in Catalonia have suffered a major recession and are currently scarce in Catalonia. On the other hand, in a predominantly Mediterranean context, the conservation of natural spaces such as the Sils lake is one of the most interesting. There will be leisure activities every day, and some days some excursions, here attached a list of the main activities that will be done: - Knowledge activities - Group cohesion dynamics - Self management activities "Do it together" - Bats observation - Dynamic on gender - Excursion to Can Moragues, headquarters of Fundació Emys. A country house, situated in Riudarenes, next to Sils. - Excursion to Girona - Excursion to Costa Brava town - Excursion to Farners Castle - Experience how we do human castles
The accommodation is located in the "Sala Cultural" of La Laguna (the local cultural center). La Laguna is a space of about 800m2, with different rooms. On the one hand, at the bottom there is a very large entrance that is used as an entrance but also as a room for activities due to its capacity. And right next door it has a kitchen. On the other hand, there are separate boys and girls toilets, between this room and the large room. The large hall is about 510 m2, where all kinds of activities take place (plays, dances, etc.). This would be the sleeping and resting area for the participants. At the top there are two more spaces, which would be "el galliner" and a very large corridor that is also used as a room for some activities. In addition, it has two offices and a material and cleaning room. The equipment has a kitchen with the basics and the food as much as possible will be organic. The menu is balanced with fresh products every day so that it provides all the necessary nutrients with the environment in mind, but since they consume practically no fish and little meat, it means no meat is eaten daily. The participants will be organized in groups and will have to cook the food in rotation. There is a basic kitchen to be able to cook and also a microwave. It is not recommended that participants can eat and use the kitchen outside the established hours. No problem if you are vegetarian, vegan and/or with allergies and/or intolerance; If there are vegetarian participants, they must say so at the time of registration because the organization will consider an alternative menu. There will be a total of 5 meals throughout the day, breakfast early in the morning, a mid-morning break to eat fruit or snacks, lunch, afternoon snack and finally dinner. The dining room is equipped with tables and benches, and there will be an area of toilets and showers. In addition, we hope to be able to go to the pool and, in our case, exceptionally, use the showers of that equipment.
It is not a work camp adapted for people with physical disabilities.
