Work will include planting flowers and bushes, incorporating natural elements into the garden, cutting overgrown trees, repairing the stone wall and cleaning the castle. Bring suitable clothes and shoes for work that can get dirty or damaged. The castle where you will work is a 10-minute train ride away. As most of the work will be done outdoors, please, bring a waterproof jacket or a raincoat and a hat to protect you from the sun. No previous experience with this kind of work is required.
This workcamp is organized in cooperation with the association Tvrz Veseli („Fortress Veseli “) in the small village of Veseli nad Uhlavou near the Sumava National Park. Veseli Castle was built on the site of an older fortress in the second half of the 19th century, and previous regimes left the castle in very poor condition. The mission of the association is to renovate the castle to its original form and reopen its gates to the public again - mainly for cultural and educational purposes. The goal of this workcamp is to maintain and restore the castle park, build a fence, repair a stone wall and clean the cellar of the castle. At this workcamp, you will actively contribute to the achievement of UN SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities.
The Veseli Castle is located in the foothills of the Sumava Mountains in the small village of Veseli nad Uhlavou. The nearest bigger cities are Klatovy and Domazlice. Pilsen, the Czech capital of beer, is 50 km away from the site. The castle is surrounded by the picturesque South Bohemian countryside and the Sumava National Park is very close by. Everywhere is good phone reception. There is also an ATM in the village where you will be accommodated. After work, you can visit some interesting places in the vicinity such as the lookout tower of Saint Marketa or Klenova Castle.
Accommodation is provided in a family house in the village of Pocinovice. You will sleep in two large rooms on mattresses. Please, bring your sleeping bag! WIFI and a washing machine are available. There is also a bathroom (2 toilets and 1 shower) and a kitchen available. Breakfast, dinner, and snacks will be provided by the campleaders and the local partner. Lunch will be delivered to the work site.
Please, bring suitable work clothes and shoes, a raincoat and a sleeping bag. The workcamp is suitable for fans of history, and culture and for those seeking insights into the Czech countryside.

The tasks will be mowing andcollecting the grass. Additionally, the participants of the project will support the work on renovations on the Castle grounds. The hilly massive around Lohra Castle is listed as National Nature Reserve. Open Houses supports the Reserve since several years with volunteering activities. In a forest near the Castle the participants will remove trees and bushes which are not corresponding with the protection aims in order to clean the paths and make them enjoyable again. They will also will collect the wood remaining after maintenance works, load it on a truck, unload it at the castle and split and stack it for wintertime or for the fireplace. Besides that, the volunteers will continue the maintenance of the green area at the castle. In addition, in the later part of the summer, they will support the recollection, assortment, splitting and storage of wood to prepare the castle for the harsh winter months. PARTICIPATION TERMS Participants have to take part for the whole time of the project. The working part consists in six hours per day. Be informed, that during all projects the work will take place also on rainy and cold days and be prepared for that.
Open Houses – not empty buildings, but places with visible and invisible traces of history, places which have grown and decayed over the centuries, places which were shaped by those people who lived there long ago as well those who left only yesterday – places which will be shaped by those who live there or who come as a guest. Open Houses – rooms which want to be filled with dreams and ideas, with meetings and exchange, by people of different backgrounds, different cultures, different generations and different ideas and visions. The history of Open Houses Network dates back to the mid-1980s, when a group of young people started to restore village churches in East Germany in voluntary work to protect them from decay. The engagement for these buildings united people who enjoyed the freedom these activities provided and who filled these rooms with life again in ways which by far exceed the craftsmen's work done – through exhibitions, concerts, making music together or just sitting by the camp fire. Meanwhile, rooms free of political and ideological pressure are no longer urgently required; however, places have become rare where people can meet without commercial pressure, free of bureaucracy and institutionalism, free of nepotism and the exclusion which it produces. What should be easy – to go somewhere in order to meet people and to work together – has become difficult. The tightrope walk between, on the one hand, public activities in a monetary and functional sense, and the retreat into private life on the other, is very difficult, and it requires a lot of power and permanent efforts to tackle red tape and financial restrictions. Free spaces are less and less understood as common property, and are permanently being cut back. The idea of public property seems to have gone out of fashion, and places of common responsible work have become rare. Open Houses Network tries to create and protect such spaces. In this process, we do not want to be the doers, but be people who have a vision, who want to initiate something, but who also are aware of depending on the co-operation of others. We understand our projects and events as offers – as offers to create space for commitment, for changes, for meetings.
LOCATION: Next towns: Bleicherode (6 km), Nordhausen (20 km), Erfurt (75 km) Region: Thuringia Lohra Castle is situated in the heart of Germany in Northern Thuringia. The castle, which is surrounded by a scenic hilly landscape, is located on the edge of a natural reserve area. Being one of the largest castles in Thuringia, the history of castle Lohra begins in the Middle Ages. Its architectural styles which have been preserved in the structures of the ensemble attest to a prolonged period of occupation and historical evolution up until today. The castle is more than thousand years old, and it is a relic of German medieval past that is still standing at the heart of a region through which the story of the German nation has been written. Today, it includes twenty buildings from different time periods, showcasing this historical evolution to the enchantment of visitors and heritage enthusiasts: medieval fortifications, remnants of a tower from the 11th century, a Romanesque double-floored chapel, a manor house from the Renaissance period as well as stables and granaries from the 19th and the early 20th centuries. The ensemble is situated in the centre of a beautiful forest. LEISURE TIME The camp places are mostly situated in small villages in rural areas, so the participants should not expect busy places and normal city activities for the leisure time during the working days. Small trips in walking distance are possible in the afternoon. On the weekends it is possible to organise an excursion to nearby cities or to have other leisure activities.
ACCOMMODATION: shared rooms with 2 – 5 beds in 3 guest houses, warm shower (limited hot water), 1 camp kitchen (cold water), coal-burning stoves FOOD: The meals will be prepared together as they are part of the community life, what means that every participant will be responsible for the meal at least once during its stay. So, it would be very nice if the participants could bring typical recipes from home in order to introduce each other to the preparation of food from all over the world.
WHAT TO BRING Usually, average temperatures in Germany during the summer time are about 20o C to 30o C; during the night it will get colder. It is possible that there may be two weeks of non-stop sunshine, but every day rain is not impossible either. In September and October, it's about 8o C to 18o C. Passport Insurance Certificates (EU-members should bring their European Health Insurance Card; those which have an individual travel insurance should bring the certificate) sleeping bag stable work boots, really appropriate for practical work appropriate clothes, waterproof coat mosquito protection lotion dictionary typical recipes, sweets, music, instruments and games from the participants' home country for group activities

This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal educational activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environmental protection by joining outdoor coastal cleanup tasks in the shores and beaches. Additional work will be undertaken in the area of our accommodation such as removing old fences dangerous to wildlife and visitors, as well as helping with renovation and maintenance of the house. We may also be marking some walking paths and, depending on the advance of the mentioned tasks, volunteers might do some forestry tasks in a small forest planted in the area, like trimming the vegetation or planting some trees. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking during the cleanups. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the planned activities.
The Awareness, Engagement and Action project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners, where we try to raise awareness about current environmental issues and encourage the volunteers to take action One of our main goals for the next few years is to contribute to a nation-wide project aiming at cleaning up the Icelandic coastline. SEEDS works along and supports the Icelandic ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, the Icelandic Environmental organisation Landvernd, the Environmental Agency of Iceland, Umhverfisstofnun and other partners in order to draw attention to the issues of ocean pollution, plastic waste and to engage volunteers in cleaning up actions around the country. Setup takes two weeks where we erect large tents such as the kitchen and bar marquee, set up and furnish the smaller accommodation tents for paying guests and put in place essential things like plumbing and electrics., and erect the cafe, sitting room yurt, and main marquee tent amongst others. Once the structures are built, they are furnished with seating, equipment, decorations and many flowers and bunting as a finishing touch. Setup is a time of team spirit, learning diverse new skills from how the pulley system on a canvas marquee works, how to build a traditional yurt, how to do an alpine butterfly knot, install our infrastructure such as plumbing or solar powered electrics, and looking great in steel cap boots!
Green & Away is a registered educational charity, who organise, build and run a unique, tented sustainable venue – a temporary outdoor eco-village, situated on the banks of the River Teme, in lush Countryside overlooked by the Malvern Hulls in the West of England. Volunteers can travel quite freely to a big city. More immediately the site is located to a café with walking trails and a river for swimming bordering the site. The nearest hospital is 9 miles away. You will get 2 days off of volunteering, days off are not the same each week, but rest will be assured to all volunteers. The work at Green & Away is what brings us together, but there is also plenty of time for evening activities, revelling in music and laughter in our bar, swimming, playing games and enjoying an evening round the campfire. There is also opportunity for day trips to visit the local area, cultural visits or special days out like canoeing on your days off. You are also invited to engage with our Education Wednesdays, where we spend an afternoon together learning from one another in a variety of ways through talks, workshops and discussions. If you have a skill or knowledge on a topic you would like to share with the group let us know!

Do you love heritage and nature and want to be part of a project with a positive impact? Come and contribute to the development of a path in Clermont L'Herault where the Caylus “calade” (traditional streets made of stones) is located. This path will take you to a hill that overlooks the town. The municipality wishes to maintain its paths for the pleasure of hikers. Discover the rich heritage of the town, with its archaeological oppidum, its “capitelles” (huts made of dry stones) and old dry stone walls, and its calades. Your work will consist of enhancing the site by carrying out small-scale landscaping work, clearing undergrowth and making small improvements to the existing calade. This work is therefore essential to maintain the path while allowing visitors, walkers and the curious people of all horizons to come and discover this rich heritage!
Since 2015, we have had a very strong partnership with the town of Clermont l'Herault and local associations that promote the discovery of local heritage. The offices of our delegation are located in the town. We carry out several volunteer projects for young people in the area. We work together with volunteers from local heritage associations. This project concerning the enhancement of the calade on the communal path participates in and contributes to the enhancement of the commune's heritage.
Clermont L'Herault is a charming little town located north of Montpellier in the South of France. With the advantage of a Mediterranean climate and a remarkable natural environment (Lac du Salagou, rivers of the Gorges de l'Hérault nearby), it also has a rich cultural heritage with its castle and cathedral. In the heart of a preserved environment, you can enjoy the pleasure of outdoor activities and make cultural and festive discoveries.
Accommodation will be at the Lac du Salagou campsite. Sleeping in individual tents (bring your own sleeping bag and camping mat). The campsite has all the comforts for daily and collective life. You will share the various collective tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the leaders and you will participate in the grocery shopping and the preparation of meals, buying if possible healthy and local products.
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for them, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country. This project is supported by the program European Solidarity Corps for young people between 18 and 30 years. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria. The participation to the ESC volunteering teams is subjects to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en Volunteers do not have to pay any fee (no sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project; Volunteers need to enroll in the PASS, the European Solidarity Corps Portal; Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project; Volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on basis of 6€/day, once they arrive on the project in France; Volunteers will receive a financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established in accordance with their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets; Volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.

In Skalafell the ski slopes are turned into a bike park during summertime and mountain bike enthusiasts can nourish their passion. The main tasks will include renovation and maintenance work on the bike trails; mainly raking and scraping them up. Other possible tasks may be related to general cleaning of the area.In the Blue Mountains, the main tasks will be maintaining the slopes and preparing them for the next ski season. The municipality and several sports associations run lodges and mountain huts there and they may also need some renovation jobs, such as painting and/or cleaning. The working plan is flexible and it will depend on the needs of our local hosts, this group is planned to mostly work at Skalafell. The landscape is raw and volunteers need to be motivated to work outdoors and to experience isolated mountain areas. No previous experience is necessary, but the work is demanding and requires a good physical condition. As it is outdoor work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the planned tasks. The camp happens around the summer solstice, when the sun hardly sets and the nights are almost as bright as the days. The bright nights are magical and staying awake and enjoying the beautiful surroundings is a unique experience. During the time of the camp participants will have the opportunity to experience the midnight sun as there are 24 hours of light even if the sun does set for short periods of time.
SEEDS volunteers will again be working with the Reykjavik municipality in two of the main outdoors skiing and recreational areas in the capital region, Blafjoll (or the Blue Mountains) and Skalafell.
The skiing areas of Blafjoll and Skalafell are both about 30 minutes driving away from the city. The Blue Mountains are south-west of Reykjavik and Skalafell is located to the east of the city. Both areas have great slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as tracks for cross-country skiing. Blafjoll has 16 lifts and Skalafell has 4 lifts. The sports area in Skalafell is situated at an elevation between 380 and 700 m.The Blue Mountain range is situated near the ring road and stretches from the capital area to the south-western lowlands. The highest mountain in the range reaches 600 m and in 1968 the district became a very popular skiing resort among Icelanders. The areas are excellent for recreation, not only for alpine and cross country skiing, but for other outdoor activities as well such as hiking and mountain biking. Nature lovers are certain to find something to their liking, but it s important to be careful crossing the rugged lava fields because of the numerous caves underneath.
SEEDS volunteers will stay in one of the ski lodges in the mountains and sleep in a shared dormitory. Please bring your own sleeping bag. Volunteers will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food, drinks, music and recipes from your country for the intercultural evening.
English will be the language in the camp; basic conversational skills are needed.Participation fee EUR 350 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid for on arrival. The fee includes the transport from Reykjavik to the campsite and back (on the first and last day of the camp). Meeting and departure time to the camp will be 16:00 (4 pm) on June 16 from the meeting point at SEEDS office in Reykjavik. After the camp we will return to Reykjavik in the afternoon of June 26.Volunteers shall be prepared for physical outdoors work and should bring good working shoes and clothes. In the mountains, the weather can change quickly and drastically. Even if it is summer, the weather can be cold or rainy. We recommend bringing good walking shoes/boots, warm and/or waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) as most of the tasks and activities take place outside. Participation fee EUR 350 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid for on arrival. The fee includes the transport from Reykjavik to the campsite and back (on the first and last day of the camp). This workcamp is for nature lovers since the work will be mainly outdoors. The volunteers will work in a nature park on the island “Usedom” located in the Baltic Sea. There is a lot of work around the natural reserve. Since it’s not possible to use common agriculture techniques, volunteers have to do everything manually. Moreover, every meadow around must be cut and the grass has to be put aside. The aim of this project is to help to protect this unique reserve through your contribution.
This project is organized by NiG e.V., a german non-profit and non-government organization. In this project we work together with the historic technical museum of Peenemünde. The Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum is working on the history of the creation and use of weapons during World War II. The exhibitions document who worked in Peenemünde, how people lived and why the enormously elaborate weapon projects were carried out.
Peenemünde is located in the northern part of the island Usedom which is located in the very north-eastern part of Germany. Usedom is the island with the most hours of sunshine in Germany and a popular travel destination. While Peenemünde was occupied by the German army during the time of the Nazi-Regime, the nature could grow and bloom freely and many salt and orchid meadows sprouted. But Peenemünde is mainly known for its significant role in the times of the Nazi regime. Whereas Peenemünde first was a place where the Nazis' army was positioned for developing different military tactics, it later became a labour camp in 1943. The prisoners had to help assemble the V-2 rockets and other military objects. Leisure time: Excursions can be planned together, short trips to nearby towns, swimming. There will be bikes provided to get to the working location.
The volunteers will stay in a youth hostel. Full board is included (also vegetarian). There will be someone cooking for the participants. Dinner will be warm; lunch and breakfast will be sandwiches.
Please bring a sleeping bag, a mattress pad, working clothes and motivation.
Will be send to the volunteers with the travel information.
