About AVSO
AVSO is a European platform for national and international non-profit organisations active in the field of longer term voluntary service. Many of AVSO’s member organizations are international networks and local associations. Including their members, AVSO represents more than 110 national organisations across Europe.
AVSO promotes voluntary service as a tool for social change and non-formal learning opportunities. To achieve this goal, we are actively engaged in lobbying for a legal status of volunteers and enhanced mobility within Europe towards the European Institutions and through our members at national levels. We also aim to broaden participation in voluntary service among new organisations in the non-profit sector and AVSO places special emphasis on providing international volunteering opportunities for those who may traditionally have fewer opportunities (disabled, socially/ economically disadvantaged and ethnic minorities).
AVSO organises regular study visits, partnership building seminars and other activities to bring together stakeholders who are active, or who would like to get involved in volunteering.
This Seminar
AVSO is organizing a pilot seminar for voluntary service organisations, who wish to deepen their knowledge about different topics of the management of voluntary service programmes and projects, and also have a training tool package for their organisation and their staff.
AVSO is planning to introduce a training package comprising of 4 modules related to different aspects of voluntary service, that were developed as a result of previous successful capacity building seminars. The Voluntary Service Toolbox seminar will be a final evaluation and feedback session, before AVSO will launch the four training modules in the following areas: The voluntary service project cycle; Health and safety in voluntary service projects; Reinforced mentorship in voluntary service projects; Intercultural dialogue, learning and competence in voluntary service projects;
The seminar will provide an opportunity for the participants to try out the 4 training tools, get a concentrated training from each of them, and at the same time provide feedback to AVSO for the finalization of the manuals.
Context and Goal
The seminar will focus on the following issues: Receive feedback and input about the content and the user friendliness of the four handbooks; Test the efficiency and competency of the training tools and; Provide learning opportunities for the participants on the training themes.
