IBG 4M Mariaberg (Baden-Wurttemberg) 31.07. – 13.08. RENO / MANU 15 vols
Project: Following the success of last years’ projects, Baden-Wurttemberg again invites young people from the Four Motors regions Baden-Württemberg, Catalunya, Lombardia, Rhône-Alpes for a workcamp. The fundamental aim is to allow young people to meet and exchange. That way they contribute to intensifying the Four Motors partnership. Due to close contact to the local population the idea of the Four Motors is passed on to the population of the town hosting the project. This year’s project will take place in the beautiful community of Gammertingen. An old monastery is towering over the surrounding hills and forests of the Swabian Albes. It is the centrepiece of a quarter of Gammertingen called Mariaberg! But Mariaberg is not only a village but also a supporting organisation of the “Behindertenhilfe”, an institution offering homes, workshops, education (kindergarten and schools) for young people with learning difficulties, for disabled or ill persons. A diverse range of people – young and old ones – come together, live, learn and work together. We ask you to come with an open heart and mind as you will get in touch with the people when working in Mariaberg!
Work: Together with the gardener of the initiative you will work on the renovation of a part of a historical circular walking path around Mariaberg. More precisely you will help clearing the vegetation, putting wooden palisades into the ground where a serpentine path will be set up and support environmental and renovation work. The work will also contain collecting material, digging and levelling the ground for the path and fill in the parts with the respective material partly with the help of technical machines. The volunteers might also maintain and renovate an old historical wall of the convent. Please be aware that you will get dirty! Therefore you should bring enough clothes, stable shoes and rubber boots.
Accommodation & Food: Accommodation will be in a gym hall in the centre of Mariaberg close to all needed facilities like shower, toilets. You will certainly have access to the swimming pool of the quarter and have the opportunity to use different other facilities. You will not prepare meals for yourself since there is no kitchen close to your accommodation. Hence, you will be served in the local Café and restaurant of the “village”.
Location: As mentioned, Mariaberg is a part of the town of Gammertingen situated on top of a hill around an old monastery. Gammertingen is situated 80 km south of Stuttgart, amidst the Swabian Albes (not Alpes!!) within spectacular nature – a beautiful mountain chain. Without a doubt you will find enough to do in Mariaberg itself (swimming pool, barbecue, gym halls, bowling, restaurants and café!) but the region with its nature, typical Swabian villages and small towns is really inviting as well.
Next airport: Stuttgart, Karlsruhe (Baden-Baden) for Ryan Air flights Next trainstation: Gammertingen
