The main aim of this workcamp will be to create ponds to host pockets of biodiversity on the REV association site. You will build these spaces with the advice of professionals from the Cévennes National Park. You'll create the spaces needed to hold the water (depth, width, tarpaulins, etc.) and plant the first plants needed to welcome amphibians and reptiles, for whom the pond is part of their natural habitat. You will work 25h/week.
The workcamp will take place at the REV's permanent home, a former vacation camp at an altitude of 1,200m. The site is located at the foot of Mont-Lozère in the heart of the Cévennes. The REV took over the site in the spring of 2022, and wants it to become a place of welcome, exchange and encounter. This project will be part of the transformation of the colony into a place where people, fauna and flora live together in harmony. This project invites you to reflect on the role and place of amphibians in the ecosystem of biodiversity, and more particularly on the question of their preservation. It will also be a great opportunity to create and expand your ecological awareness by participating in and creating these ponds, spaces of biodiversity.
The project will take place in the southern part of Mont-Lozère, in a rural area (department 48). Shaped by erosion, this territory is criss-crossed by several watercourses, geological formations such as the causses and numerous forests of many species. A wide variety of flora and fauna have been preserved here thanks to the low human density of recent centuries. The nearest town is Mende(48000), with 16,000 inhabitants. Leisure activities : Far from the French metropolises, Lozère is nonetheless a very dynamic region. The region's activities revolve around local festivities, concerts and unspoilt natural areas (mountains, rivers, forests).
The workcamp will take place in a particularly isolated area, where you will be accommodated on the REV site in individual tents (remember to bring your sleeping bag). You will have access to sanitary facilities close to the camp. What's more, if weather conditions deteriorate too much for camping, a shelter a few meters away will be available. Meals will be provided and prepared in turn by participants.
You should arrive at Génolhac train station on Wednesday 3rd July between 4pm and 6pm. If you arrive the day before, you'll need to arrange your own accommodation.

Come discover all the beauty of the region Savoy in the middle of the French Alpes by participating in this new workcamp that works together with the community of La Motte-Servolex ! Over the years, the workcamp in La Motte-Servolex took part in the culture of this charming town located just a few kilometres away from Chambéry, the capital of Savoy. You will be welcomed with lots of generosity and friendliness by the inhabitants of the town. During the workcamp, you will be able to take part in various actions coordinated by the technical services and the environmental service. You will be working on the construction of a footbridge and the installation of a pathway on stilts to make a wetland pathway accessible. Other initiatives to improve the quality of life for residents will be proposed by the Town Hall's departments.
The La Motte-Servolex community celebrated in 2022 their 20 years partnership with Concordia. Like every year, the project is organised with different services (animations, environment and sustainable development technologies) that will ensure you to be welcomed in good conditions. The city, attached to the agglomeration of Chambéry, is young, dynamic and sporty. The stakes of sustainable development are fully integrated into the policy of the city which is very active in this area (sorting waste, banning plant pesticides, vegetable containers on public property…). It has recently received two new labels: "Territory committed to nature" and "Best small town for biodiversity 2021" around the theme of water and biodiversity. The projects carried out within the framework of the international projects make it possible to participate in the preservation of the heritage and enhance the surrounding environment. Openness to the world is a desire of the city to promote intercultural exchanges with the inhabitants, especially the youngest ones. If you are between 18 and 30 years old, live in the commune or its surroundings and want to take part in this project, contact the regional representative of Concordia in Rhone Alpes (chantiers.rhone-alpes@concordia.fr).
La Motte-Servolex (12000 inhabitants) is a community located in the region of Savoy, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes. It is attached to the agglomeration of Chambéry from which it is less than 10 km away. Thanks to the motorway network, Lyon and Geneva are respectively 1h20 and 1h from La Motte-Servolex. The city is surrounded by the mountains of the Alpine massif and is located close to the Lake du Bourget which has many beaches on its shores, leisure facilities and many tourist attractions. You will have access to many outdoor activities (hiking, open-air cinema, swimming at the Lake du Bourget, cycling) in an urban and mountain setting. A few kilometres from the city centre, you can easily access nature by train or bus, where you can enjoy beautiful walks!
You will be accommodated in individual tents in front of the Halle des Sports Didier Parpillon, at the Raoul Villot Stadium, close to the city centre. The kitchen, the toilets, the showers and the group living area are in the sports hall, which is also a shelter in case of bad weather. Together, you will participate in the organisation of collective life (housekeeping, activities, etc.) and in the preparation of meals, in turn, using the products that will be purchased nearby. We will encourage, as far as possible, a vegetarian diet with local and seasonal products, while ensuring that the diets of all participants are respected and that the local gastronomy is discovered. Wifi access is possible near the public buildings which are less than 5 minutes away from the place of living. Evolving in an urban area, you will have the possibility to wash your laundry in an automatic washing machine.
Bicycles will also be at your disposal for everyday trips and walks. It is necessary to know how to cycle to make the most of your stay. It is advisable to bring a personal helmet.

You can make reservations approximately four months before the departure on the internet site of SNCF: https://www.sncf-connect.com/
The municipality will provide gloves, reflective vests and glasses for the work. For work on the construction site, remember to wear closed shoes that you don’t mind being used. Nights can be cold, so remember to bring a warm sleeping bag and possibly a floor mat or an extra mattress for your comfort. Also bring clothes suitable in case of rain (fleece, waterproof jacket…) for your excursions. Don’t forget sun protection (hat, glasses, cream...), a water bottle and your bathing suit for swimming (swimming pool, watersports centre...). Friendly activities are already planned. If you want to share a bit of your culture (music, singing, cooking recipes, traditional stories, unusual objects...), don’t hesitate to take a small piece of your country or region in your backpack and a small Bluetooth speaker or a music instrument to share your favourite playlist! We'd like to bring an intergenerational dimension to the project, and we'll be working on organising events with the retirement home to encourage exchanges and conviviality. Commit yourself to the heritage of Châteaudouble, a small and typical mediaeval village. For nature and history lovers! The village inaugurated last year an open-air green theatre on an esplanade overlooking the village and its listed monuments with a magnificent unobstructed view. The place will host artists, concerts and many other events for the inhabitants and tourists, participating in the dynamism of the village. The site being vast, several restoration works are planned to vary the pleasures! Your work will consist in restoring the dry-stone walls by sorting stones (salvage and purchased ones), cleaning the area (ground clearance) and constructing the area’s entrance.
Châteaudouble is a mediaeval village with a very rich heritage and sumptuous monuments, some of them being even listed. Very dynamic and invested in the development of its historical and natural heritage, several projects are currently undertaken by the village. This is a renewed partnership with the commune of Châteaudouble for the second year. Our current project is part of a development plan for the plateau of Sainte Anne, on the heights of the village, which became last year an open-air theatre with stone terraces and dressing rooms for artists in the middle of old cobblestone ways, dry-stone walls as well as an old chapel. Our work camp and your commitment will enable us to restore and enhance this magnificent site for the benefit of the population and tourists.
Like a real eagle's nest, overlooking the Nartuby gorges in the upper Var, Châteaudouble has retained its authentic mediaeval appearance. Châteaudouble takes its name from the presence of two castles in the Middle Ages, each of them located on a bank of the Nartuby. Only the remains of the Tower, a square keep, dating from the 12th century, which overlooks the village, still exist today. Perched on its narrow plateau, Châteaudouble is a village that invites you to discover its alleys, wander between the houses and climb up to the ruins of the castle, on the plateau of Sainte Anne. The village offers a wide range of leisure activities, including visits and walks, swimming in the rivers and gorges, kayaking in the gorges or at sea, hiking, local sports such as pétanque, and taking part in the various village festivities. In Châteaudouble, a village of 200 inhabitants, there are two bars and one concert a week in the summer. As the village is isolated with few public transport links, the vast majority of activities take place on site. Outings to the gorges and/or the sea can be organised.
You will be accommodated on site in individual tents with access to a building for communal living, toilets and meals. Handwashing of the laundry. Remember to bring your floor mat or air mattress and your duvet (very important!!). As we do not have a bathroom on site, we will install solar showers. The group will share the cleaning chores and prepare meals together. The budget will be allocated to the staff and you will participate in the grocery shopping and in the preparation of meals, prioritising products from the market and local producers.
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country. This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program for young people between 18 and 30. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria. The participation to ESC volunteering teams is subjected to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en - volunteers do not have to pay any fee (neither sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project and will receive financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established depending on their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets; - volunteers need to enrol in the PASS, the ESC Portal; then Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project; - volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on the basis of 6€/day, once they arrive at the project in France; - volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.
The meeting point is set at Les ARCS DRAGUIGNAN train station, at 5:00 PM CET on the 5th of July. An "on-demand" rural bus service operates in the area, linking Draguignan and Châteaudouble; the coordinators will contact you in the days leading up to the worksite with specific instructions on how to get to the worksite. From “PARIS Gare de Lyon” train station the journey by train to the ARCS DRAGUIGNAN lasts about 4 to 5 hours, make sure that you have enough time to have a stress free travel. Train reservations can be made about 4 months before departure on the SNCF website, link below: https://www.sncf-connect.com Whenever possible, use low-carbon transportation (train or bus, rather than airplane) for a responsible and sustainable international work site.
Remember to bring clothes and shoes for work and hiking. Nights can be cool, so bring a good warm duvet. To avoid mosquito bites, remember to bring mosquito repellent and loose, covering clothes for the evenings. As we are in an area where it can be very hot during the day, bring a hat or cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, a small backpack and water bottles. As the village is far from the meeting place and has no public transportation, it is imperative to be on time at the meeting point! For the public meals and the open house, you can bring a few specialties from home that are easy to carry with you. On the last day (19/07), the departure time is usually set in the morning.
