Please note this is a youth leadership role specifically if you're interested in learning about delivering high ropes activities. You will be delivering a variety of activities during your stay. During your time with us, you will act as a host to our groups, leading activities and games, running evening entertainment, ensuring the smooth running of our dining room, singing at the campfire, welcoming families to events, being a pro at ‘doing the YMCA’ dance routine and generally making a huge difference to our community! Behind the scenes you will ensure the smooth running of our large operation, from helping to look after our beautiful woodland and grassland areas, maintaining activities, putting up tents with our Estates team, helping out in the kitchen, making beds, and much, much more. Every year we welcome thousands of visitors to YMCA Fairthorne Manor’s 94-acre site on the south coast of England. Our site includes sweeping grounds, mature woodland, a lake, access to the River Hamble, and a range of exciting outdoor activities. Fairthorne is a place of firsts – from toddlers walking, kids splashing in the mud, being away from home, trying new activities, or a school trip to remember. Enabling young people to grow and thrive is only made possible with the help of top-notch volunteers from around the globe. Can you help add the sparkle to everything we do? Fairthorne Manor is located in a village called Curdridge which is near the city of Southampton on the South Coast of England. It is about 15 minutes’ walk from Fairthorne Manor into the village where there are shops and pubs. The nearest train station is Botley from where it is about half an hour’s journey into Southampton city centre.
Volunteers will be allocated a basic room, which may be shared with up to 4 other volunteers/instructors (separate for male/female). Bedding provided. Three meals a day will be provided in the dining room and there are toilet and shower facilities, a washing machine & drying laundry Please note, do not expect a 5* hotel! Fairthorne is more like a youth hostel with dormitory-style accommodation and basic facilities.
You must be over 18 years of age at the time your programme starts due to our accommodation rules. You will be asked to attend an online interview with a panel from our centre before we can confirm your placement. Deadline for Applications: As this position is subject to a successful VISA application, we strongly suggest any volunteer apply a minimum of 3 months before the project starts. We will consider late applicants, with the risk of a later start. You must be able to fund your own travel to and from the UK within a week of the start and finish dates of the programme and be able to get from your arrival airport to our local train station (Botley, Hampshire) from where we will pick you up. You must apply for a tier 5 charity workers visa (approximately £244) for which we will provide you with a sponsorship certificate. Visa application decisions normally take 3-4 weeks, however, can take longer. We are a fully approved ‘A-rated’ sponsor, so you do not require a certain amount of savings 90 days before you apply. You will need to provide us with two contacts for us to obtain a reference from and provide us with a certified translated local police check or be willing to obtain a DBS check if living in the UK. There will also be a small amount of pocket money given to the volunteers to be used for personal items which is about £420.00.

Volunteers can get a direct train from Southampton to Botley, or if flying in to a London airport you get the train to Southampton Central and then on to Botley. Once at Botley a staff member will take you to the final destination.
- Volunteers will be volunteering from Monday to Friday from 07:30am - 6:00pm with breaks throughout the day. Volunteers will have both Saturday and Sunday for their leisure time. - Volunteers must be over 18 at the time the programme starts due to accommodation rules. - Volunteers must be able to fund their own flights to the UK and get to Botley Train Station where the YMCA will collect and take to final destination. - Volunteers must provide Two References and a Police check to Concordia. - Volunteers need to be able to attend an online interview with the YMCA Fairthorne Manor.
