Work

Volunteers will do various activities such as 1) Introduction sessions with selected host families, 2) Batik Canting Workshop, 3) Rubber tapping and stingless bee honey activities, 4) Livestock and agriculture activities, 5) Community service projects (landscaping and mural painting) and 6) Village activities (traditional cooking, chicken slaughtering, fishing, and Hari Raya feast celebration with the villagers)

Partner

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), organized together with Malaysian Organization of Volunteer Exchange (MOVE) for the first time (!) in this place. MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006. One of the members (camp leaders) of MOVE has initiated to create this project by his own network with aiming at 1) Increase understanding of customs and culture between international vols. and the community, 2) Build friendship and cooperation networks between the two youth communities, 3) Assist in the development of the village community through innovative and beneficial activities and 4) Provide vols. with valuable experiences of Malaysian life and culture, particularly in Kampung Sungai Tiram.

Location

The Kampung Sungai Tiram community is Ulu Tiram, Johor (southern Malaysia) Other activities - Visits to eco-tourism sites within Mukim Sungai Tiram (Boat Tour, ATV Ride, Mussel raft visit), Closing ceremony with cultural night and experience-sharing session

Accomodation

Volunteers will stay in village people residents. One house will be occupied with two volunteers.

Requirements

High motivation to join the activities and to respect local culture/ way.

Notes:

Study theme - Traditional culture and rural life in each country. Local SDGs (2030 goals) of the area Participation fee - 1,100 MYR (227 EUR by the rate on 2025 Nov. 3rd) for 14 days, 850 MYR (176 EUR) for 9 days including the weekend and 750 MYR (155 EUR) to be paid on your arrivals. 10% less for repeaters of MOVE workcamps or those from less expensive countries. Transportation cost to/ from the village needs to be paid by the vols. additionally (not included in the fee). Other - The local campleader will be a man who has initiated this project creation! 7 days vols. can extend their stay for 2 more days if they want to join free days activities in the weekend.
