Organized together with NICE (Never-ending International workCamps Exchange) and supported by Greening Asia fund since 2002. The forest problem is serious also in Mongolia. Before 1990, the forests covered 10% of the land, but 7% today. It's caused by cutting trees without any control, forest fire, and global warming. Another side takes a long time to grow trees in Mongolia and May and the middle of October is the only season to plant trees in Mongolia.
We will plant trees in Mongolian workCamps Exchange`s camp and some other places. This is the only season in Mongolia to plant trees. There are increasing activities by some organizations to plant trees but it takes a hundred or more years to be grown, so we should also join this movement by global power! Part of Greening Asia. Any good experiences for tree planting and the future plan of international workcamps in Mongolia and Greening Asia.
MCE was established on January 11th, 2001 by an individual who had participated in the 3rd Training & Networking Workcamp of NVDA in Vietnam. Before 2000, there were no workcamp organizations or international voluntary service in Mongolia. However, there was much need for international voluntary projects to improve a Mongolian society. Through practical work projects, MCE hopes to encourage public awareness of Mongolia’s social problems and promote local actions. We promote exciting voluntary actions by fresh ideas and mobility as a youth NPO, to shift the world with too much competition and expansion into more healthy one for both nature and people. We create opportunities to meet new people and to start new actions by involving many locals. We make bridges between isolated NPOs and local people, and invite youth to depopulated areas. We grow exchange naturally among world youth and local people through living, working, talking and laughing together. They can improve global views/ sensitivity and language/ planning skills.

Since 2000 we have had volunteers around the world joining our summer programs which were designed around building sustainable vegetable farming facilities. Over the years we have learned that developing eco-friendly and sustainable farming facilities does require a lot of research on improving our farming methods, learning the best practices from local farmers on improving the crop quality and perseverance despite the setbacks which were imminent in harsh Mongolian continental climate, with long, frigid winters and short, warm summers. We are hoping to transform our eco-friendly vegetable farming facility into a sustainable organic farming training center which teaches the low income families how to grow healthy greens on their own. Organic fruits and vegetables are sparse and expensive in Mongolia which makes them unaffordable for many low income families. We are planning to donate any crops from our facilities to families in need in addition to providing them with the knowledge of how to grow their own crops.
The main works are planting vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, radishes, etc at the eco-farming camp. Also, volunteers may work on making fences to protect the farm, etc. Quite tiring but let's enjoy it. Eco farming methods/know from other countries.
