The volunteers of the festival are carrying out several different tasks. On the first four days the festival area is built up. This means carrying fences and tables, setting up tents, installing signs and banners, distributing the waste containers and helping with area decoration. During the festival days many volunteers are needed in the cleaning team which keeps the festival area tidy and in the recycling team which takes care that the different types of waste end in the right containers. After the festival the volunteers work with take-down work carrying again fences and tables, taking down banners, signs and decorations.World Village Festival is committed to continually improving its environmental efforts. Starting from 2024, there will be only vegetarian food for sale at the festival. Festival is one of the first EcoCompass certified events in Finland. The festival strives to minimize waste, including using long-lasting printed materials and allowing only recyclable containers. Carbon footprint measurements for the festival are conducted at regular intervals. The festival is committed to recycling all waste associated with the event. The food utensils and dishes used at the festival are biodegradable, and the event banners are made from PVC-free and fully recyclable GeoMesh fabric. Pure Waste, the manufacturer of the volunteers shirts, produces its products from cutting waste from other clothing manufacturers.
Finnish Development NGOs Fingo is the umbrella organisation of 260 Finnish civil society organisations (CSOs) engaged in development cooperation, sustainable development and global citizenship education and an expert in global development. Fingo and its Member Organisations promote sustainable development and global justice and work to make life fairer everywhere. Fingo promotes globally just sustainable development by influencing policies, supporting civil society and providing citizens with information. Fingo organizes yearly World Village Festival which is Finland s leading event for global action for the whole family, an admission free cultural festival, a food carnival and a trade fair for sustainable development. World Village Festival raises global challenges and solutions, increases people s understanding and provides concrete ways to take action to create change. The expected number of visitors is about 50 000 during the weekend 25.-26.5.2024. During the weekend there will be dozens of program numbers: domestic and international concerts, topical discussions, documentaries, children s programs and workshops. In the festival area development organizations, friendship organizations, environmental organizations, disability organizations, trade unions, authorities, educational institutions, parties, media, companies and other actors present their work. Hundreds of exhibitors have participated in the festival every year, about half of which are CSOs.
The volunteering team will be organized in Helsinki, which is the capital of Finland. It is a beautiful and green city with over 600 000 inhabitants and itEU? 1/2U? 1/2s located by the Baltic sea. You can easily travel to Helsinki either by flying to Helsinki-Vantaa airport, or arriving with the ferry from Tallinn or Stockholm. The festival is organized in an area in Helsinki called Suvilahti , which is an event area located 3 km from the Helsinki City center. Suvilahti is a former power plant and gaswork area that has been taken over by several cultural actors and many festivals and events are organized there every year.
The volunteers will be accommodated in shared cottages. The host will provide lunch during the working days and other meals the volunteers will cook by themselves in small groups. All food provided will be plant-based. The volunteers should be flexible with simple living conditions and communal living (making decisions, cleaning, and cooking together).
Project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps and open for 18-30 year old citizens and permanent residents of EU countries and Ukraine. Participation is free of charge, as well as board and lodging. Volunteers need to stay the full duration of the project in order to get pocket money (5 euros per day) and travel cost reimbursed.

The volunteersEU? 1/2U? 1/2 practical tasks will be helping with the construction and setting up of the summer exhibition, cleaning, restoration of outdoor sculptures, as well as landscaping and gardening. In some tasks some skills or previous experience in construction, light /sound tech, photography or video documenting and cooking for big groups would be appreciated. Volunteers are also encouraged to explore their creative side together while in this inspiring environment.
Haihatus Art Center and Residency is an inspiring, relaxed, and international art center and residence, that hosts different kinds of cultural events. Haihatus is a communal place where art, in all of its forms, is the driving force. The art center and residence is a non-profit organization that is run by volunteersEU? 1/2U? 1/2 and artistsEU? 1/2U? 1/2 help.This year Haihatus is celebrating its 25-year journey with a special exhibition focusing on conversations brought forward from spaces traditionally left on the margins in contemporary artEU? 1/2U? 1/2s national and international contexts, which the volunteersEU? 1/2U? 1/2 tasks will revolve around.
Joutsa is a municipality with a population of roughly 4 300 people in Central Finland, the area is also nicknamed Lake-Finland due to the high amount of lakes. The area of Joutsa includes a total of 192 lakes Despite being a rather small municipality, there is a number of nature attractions, ample possibilities for exercise, saunas and beaches for swimming, a movie theater, small thrift shop, local history museum and other establishments to visit on free time. The closest bigger cities are Jyvaskyla and Mikkeli, 65-80 km away.
The accommodation will be in shared rooms, for the first week in an old school building 10 km from the working place and for the second week in a local hostel in center. The volunteers are expected to be ready for communal living in basic conditions.Food will be cooked either in the accommodation locations or the workplace by the volunteers, the food will be plant-based and itEU? 1/2U? 1/2s cooked in small teams by the group.
May in Finland might still be a bit chilly, so pack clothes and shoes accordingly as a lot of the work will be outside. Be sure to bring a swimsuit as well Snacks from your country, musical instruments etc are also very appreciated. Volunteers will assist in different tasks according to their skills and interests. They will organize international summer activities for elementary school children such as taking care of animals, exploring the forest, and doing arts and crafts. Another activity involves running a summer cafe, along with maintaining a vegetable garden and reed model environment. The camp also intends to host international evenings for local residents, allowing volunteers to share about their culture. Volunteers may also join activities with elderly people and help them with household chores.
Foxhill Association maintains old industrial heritage of Kuusankoski and works to increase community spirit and wellbeing of people by common action. It is a voluntary association preserving the are of wooden buildings where factory workers used to live. The aim is to keep the cultural and natural heritage alive.
Kuusankoski is a small town next to Kouvola about 130 km north-east from Helsinki. The camp is in a forest on top of the hill in the middle of Kuusankoski town. During free time, volunteers can take part in selfguided bike tours and organized excursions. The hosting association runs in sumemr time a cafe and a small petting zoo for children so there are many visitors in the area.
Accommodation will be shared accommodation in basic conditions in a small wooden building. The volunteers will prepare their meals together.

The volunteers will assist in organizing a local music and culture festival in Jalasjarvi. Aukusti festival has been organised since 2000 and August 2024 marks the 20th time the event is held. The volunteers will assist in practical tasks, which are simple but sometimes heavy work, in arranging the event. The first week will mostly consist of building the fences and setting up and on the second week tidying up the area afterwards. So if you are interested in music and the Finnish countryside, and are ready to work hard outdoors in all weather conditions this is the camp for you.
The camp host is the local cultural association Mukula which organises various cultural events for children and young people such as an annual rock festival in Jalasjarvi. The festival attracts several thousand guests. The organiser has hosted many great work camps earlier related to this festival.
Jalasjarvi is a community of about 8000 people in Ostrobothnia in western Finland. The nearest town is Seinajoki, which is also the most convenient to reach by train from Helsinki. Seinajoki train station is about a 3 hour train ride from Helsinki airport There are also buses as www.onnibus.fi but they are way less easy as the train leaves from the airport and you only need to change in Tikkurila.
Accommodation is at a local youth centre Wilhola within walking distance from the festival area. There is a shared sleeping area. Meals will be cooked together by the volunteers. The youth centre has a lot of activities, pool table and games. Additionally, the festival organizer also has a movie theater that is accessible to volunteers throughout the camp. Some trips to nearby places such as Ahtari Zoo and to expereince Seinajoki nightlife are also organized for volunteers.
Please note that the work is partly physical in its nature. The volunteers need travel insurance for the duration of their stay.

The theme of the camp is nature and youth in the countryside and the volunteers will get many opportunities for intercultural encounters. Volunteers should be prepared to present their own country and its culture to local children and youth during visits to local school and youth houses, or when organisizing an international evening events for the young people. The volunteers will get a chance to get to know the local nature through tidying surroundings.
This camp is organized together by the Municipality of Poytya and local 4H-club. The local organisations have again joined forces to organise an international work camp in order to give local youth international experiences. The host organisation also runs a Nature Cabinet which runs nature related exhibitions.
Ylane is a small village surrounded by lakes and forests in Western Finland, about 190 km from Helsinki. The nearest city is Turku which is about 55 km away. During free time volunteers can participate in various activities such as sauna, swimming, canoeing, berry picking and fishing. There are national parks nearby so the area provides excellent hiking possibilities. To reach the camp the volunteers can arrive in Helsinki airport and then by bus or train to Turku. From Turku there are few buses to Ylane daily.
Modest hostel style accommodation with a large common space, own sleeping bags needed. Showers in a separate building. Volunteers will prepare meals together in small teams.
