Let's preserve the beautiful forests in the World Natural Heritage!
Assisting in the preparation (preparation of saplings and tools, setting up tents, etc.) and operation of tree planting festivals in two locations in Aomori Prefecture (Ajigasawa and Hiranai). On the day of the festival, many participants, local students to those from all over the country, will gather to plant trees. 1) Preparing a beach nursery and organize a tool shed. 2) Preparation and operation of the treeplanting festival in Hiranai on June 16. 3) Preparation and operation for the tree-planting festival of SMPS in Ajigasawa on June 23 Volunteers will get knowledge of history and culture of Shirakami-Sanchi World Heritage, and skills of conservation forests in Japan
This project is actively working for SDG13 (Climate Action) and SDGs 15 (Life on Land), organized together with Shirakami Mountains Preservation Society (SMPS) since 2006. The Shirakami Mountains is one of Japanese valuable preserved natural forests consisting primarily of beech trees, registered as a World Natural Heritage in 1993. SMPS aims to preserve the natural beauty of the Shirakami Mountains by nurturing seedlings of beech trees, planting them, training mountain guide, etc. SMPS hosts tree-planting ceremony every June for preserving and promoting the value of it. They also preserve the forests near the Mutsu-bay, famous as production of scallops. Due to climate change, the sea water temperature increased abnormally and the most of scallops were dead. So SMPS started to preserve the forest there to let nutrient water flow to the ocean.
Location: Volunteers will work in Ajigasawa town and Hiranai town in Aomori prefecture. Aomori is located on the northernmost tip of Honshu Island. Shirakami Mountains located in southwest and the Mutsu-bay nestles between the eastern Shimokita and western Tsugaru Peninsulas. Leisure: Enjoy rich nature around accommodation, taking a walk at morning, hot spring, etc
Shared room in school dormitory. Sleeping bag is needed! Meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns.
Volunteers should prepare to work hard outside in good and bad weather and have high motivation for work in the forests actively with local people.
The nearest international airport is Tokyo (NRT or HND) from which it takes 7 hours by bullet train and local train or 10 hours by night bus and local train to the meeting point in Aomori pref. Vols. need to arrive at NRT or HND by 18:00 on Jun. 13 and can leave there after 22:00 on Jun. 24. It is better to book flight on or after June 25.

The “Crack” International Comics Festival is organized every year by Forte Prenestino Social Center, in Rome. Crack festival will involve editors and artists coming mainly from European and Mediterranean countries: 4 days of exhibitions, workshops and cultural exchange will involve hundreds of youngsters and experts. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal: SustainableCommunities-SDG11
During the festival, the place will host hundreds of artists and thousands of spectators, so the international volunteers will be asked to join the local volunteers to manage the entire organization of the event. An average of 6 to 7 hours per day is required, with possible activities organized on the event nights. The volunteers' work is going to involve : the logistic set up, the pub & restaurant tending, the cleanup and other activities proposed by the organizers. After the event, the volunteers will help taking down the structures and cleaning the fortress. The work can be physically hard (and it will be very hot), but the environment will be funny and easy going. The motto is to “Share, Work and Have Fun”. In a few words, get ready to be active and to give your energy to the community working at the Forte Prenestino.
The workcamp is organize by Forte Prenestino Social Center, in Rome. Forte Prenestino is one of the most important alternative cultural and social project in Italy. It was squatted more than 30 years ago, and now is the promoter of many cultural underground events, hosting an alternative community of artists, activists and social workers. The center has become a place of cultural production, autonomously managed and economically independent. The main goal of their work is to bring together understanding and action; social rights and voluntary activities; the local and the global. They promote not-for-profit projects, which could be useful for the local communities, fight racism and increase intercultural exchanges.
The Camp takes place in Rome. Forte Prenestino Social Center is located in one of these fortresses around the city, in a big working-class neighborhood called Centocelle.
The volunteers are going to sleep in a dormitory, yet they will have to bring a sleeping bag. During the festival, they can possibly be asked to sleep a few nights in tents. Please, take good note that the accommodation is really basic. Hand in hand with your team-mates, you will have to clean and to prepare the dorm at your arrival. Consequently, we want you to be aware that the comfort on the camp will be simply basic. The toilets will be collective and they are not what we could call de luxe. As for the showers, they will probably in outside (open air showers), so don't forget your swimsuit/swimming trunks. Regarding the meals, the volunteers are going to use the kitchen for breakfasts and will have meals at the restaurant: they will be asked to help the cookers
To be open minded and ready to live in an alternative community. This project request a motivation letter and to sign an agreement to confirm the understanding of the project. Expect a very very basic accommodation.

Newstar Drama Group was founded in 1993 at Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) Nairobi and was registered in 1996 by the Ministry of Culture and Social services. The group is a traveling theatre group that has performed at many high schools, universities, colleges, primary schools, social forums and Kenya National Theatre. Newstar is a member of International Drama/Theatre and Education Association (IDEA). THEME: REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH EDUCATION, PROMOTION OF GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT Gender equality implies a society in which women and men enjoy the same opportunities, outcomes, rights and obligations in all spheres of life. Equality between men and women exists when both sexes are able to share equally in the distribution of power and influence; have equal opportunities for financial independence through work or through setting up businesses; enjoy equal access to education and the opportunity to develop personal ambitions. A critical aspect of promoting gender equality is the empowerment of women, with a focus on identifying and redressing power imbalances and giving women more autonomy to manage their own lives. Women's empowerment is vital to sustainable development and the realization of human rights for all. The project aims to empower the women to actively continue with the struggle to enhance their capacities and ultimately take the lead in community development. This takes cognizance of the fact that despite being overrun by pro-men cultural foundations, women remain the pillar of families and the most vulnerable gender in the current societal set-up.
Manual work and Intercultural activities: Newstar Drama Group office work. Performing arts training. Live drama performances. Mentorship for artistes. Promotional activities including marketing theatre productions. Submit Project Report to KVDA.
Kenya Voluntary Development Association (KVDA) is an indigenous, nonpolitical and membership organization which is non-sectarian and nonprofit making started in 1962 as a work camp organization registered under the Societies’ Act. In 1993, KVDA was registered as a Non-Governmental organization by the establishment of the NGOs Coordination Act.

EDUCATIONAL TOURS KVDA offers educational tours to spectacular sites including the renowned Maasai Mara Game Reserve at separate fees. Please contact us for specific tour information.
ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS Volunteers will stay in a house provided by the local people with very basic living conditions. Volunteers have an obligation to climb down the level of the people with the aim of exposure to development challenges. KVDA will provide foodstuffs and volunteers will cook their own meals in turns. Water is available from springs and it is recommended that drinking water should be boiled or medicated. Mineral water available at supermarkets is also recommended. The Government policy to install ICT in primary schools has seen connectivity to the national power grid for most educational institutions in Kenya and this makes it easy for volunteers to use electric appliances while at the project. Furthermore, we invite you to bring typical food, spices, drinks, games and music from your country (for an intercultural evening) – and a lot of motivation!

We are looking for volunteers to help run the festival through its preparational works (July 5-15). The volunteers will do construction work, drilling/heavy objects, etc. Work equipment will be provided. After the preparational work, you’ll be free to enjoy the festival and take part in all events.
Bánkitó is Hungary’s biggest independent, socially conscious, cultural and community festival with a wide range of programmes throughout its three days (10-13 July 2024) in the summer from music through theatre to contemporary art. The festival is located in the countryside and hosts 8000 visitors each year. It offers concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions, civil initiatives, workshops, and round-table discussions about social justice issues, human rights, and the experiences and cultures of minorities. It takes place at Bánkitó, a small Hungarian village 60kms away from Budapest. The music at the festival is progressive, contemporary, and constantly renewing, with the newest and most exciting bands of the Hungarian music scene. The civil/cultural programs always poke at important and actual topics, working towards understanding society’s issues with activists from NGOs, musicians, actors, and artists. Contemporary Hungarian theatre pieces will be showcased, and Hungary’s most exciting contemporary artists will transform the shores of Lake Bánk into an art exhibition.
Bánk is a tiny village in Nógrád County with its not-so-tiny Lake Bánk in the middle. It has everything a tiny village built around a lake could need: a small store, a tobacco shop, a pizza place, a pub, some hotels, motels and a lakeshore eatery. Plus the extremely friendly locals. Bánkitó Festival has been in town for 12 years, mostly around the Lakeshore and the Camp, though throughout the years, we ventured out to settle around the Reeds and the Meadow. Besides the lake, the small wooden cabins and the venues hiding around small clearings throughout the enclosing forest make Bánkitó the festival it is.
You will live in tents during the festival and you are asked to bring your own tent (we can provide some if needed). We provide 2 meals/day for you (hot meals for lunch and breakfast). A vegetarian option is available. We provide all equipment needed to fulfill your tasks.
You should be fit enough for physically demanding work. No special documentation is necessary. No COVID-19 vaccine requirements. No language requirements, but we require a way to communicate with the organizers in Hungarian or English. Please bring clothes that you won’t regret getting dirty during construction, your sleeping bag and personal medicine. Please send us a motivation letter focusing on why you would choose to work on the festival, and what kind of related skills or previous experiences you have had at the chosen field, for example doing physical work (construction and demolition) on warm summer days. You do not need any special skills to volunteer at the festival.
You need to travel by train from Budapest to Bánk. The easiest way is to go to “Újpest Városkapu” in Budapest, where you can start a journey to Rétság then change a bus there to Bánk. There is almost every hour a bus, but we suggest to arrive the latest to Újpest at 5 pm. It takes around 1 hour from the airport to Újpest-Városkapú by the airport bus and metro (M3), plus 1,5 hours to Bánk.
The programme of the festival is always organized around a common theme. In 2024, the topic will be Mind-Splitting. This year, the Bánkitó Festival explores how we perceive the world we live in. Are you frustrated by too much information and yet you're indecisive? War or terrorism? Meat or vegetables? Who is the oppressor and who is the oppressed? Left or centre? Let's not even talk about the right. Activism, or are you over it? Go with fashion or go against it? But isn't it fashion to go against fashion? It must be normal to feel like you have seven selves at once. But what's normal? The theme of this year's Bánkito Festival is mind-splitting.

The aim of this work camp is to help organise the festival by joining the team of volunteers and organisers. As part of a team of volunteers, most of them young people from the village, you'll be helping to set up the site: putting up barriers, erecting tents, etc. But during the festival, you'll also have the opportunity to attend conferences or welcome visitors. You'll need to speak French to share your time with the public and the organisers. You will work 5 to 6 hours a day, spread over the duration of your stay.
Couthures-sur-Garonne is a charming, peaceful village in south-west France, nestling between the meandering Garonne river. In 2018, it was the birthplace of the International Journalism Festival, sponsored by the Le Monde group (Le Monde newspaper, L'Obs, Télérama, etc.). Over the course of a weekend, the festival takes over the village and its inhabitants. Meetings, workshops, live performances and screenings will take place all over the village, focusing on "news and journalism". The international workcamp at the heart of the festival provides an intercultural dimension, rich in artistic and intergenerational exchanges.
Couthures-sur-Garonne (47180) 70 km from Agen and 95 km from Bordeaux. Leisure activites: You will be able to exchange ideas with young people from the village of Couthures, who are themselves involved in the organization of the festival. An excellent opportunity to discover the charms of the region, such as Marmande, the tomato capital and its many activities and festivities. You can swim in the Garonne river at the Parc de la Filhole or enjoy its nature area and discover the surroundings with the Garonne hillsides, its vineyards and wines, or the Canal Latéral. The locals will be delighted to welcome you into their homes for a meal or a chance to chat and discover the region.
Participants will sleep in 2-person tents, depending on gender. You must bring your own sleeping-bag and pillow, and we will provide air mattresses. Meals will be prepared, in turn, by you, in particular for lunch and dinner, while respecting environmental values and local resources, as well as the culture of each person (hot and cold dishes as well as for vegetarians and vegans will be prepared). Meals during the festival will be provided by the organisers.
The meeting point is at Marmande train station on Friday 5th July, between 4 and 5 p.m. The organisers will meet you and take you to the village of Couthures-sur-Garonne (47180). All the information you need to get there will be in the project roadmap.

You will help the organisers in all phases of the festival. On the first days, the main tasks will be setting up the stage and the campground on the site of the festival. You will also help to create the always charming and handmade decorations of the festival site and help with the disassembly of the whole structure and surroundings on the last day. While the festival is running, you should be available to the organisation and will be asked to assist in different areas: bar, stage, organisation, catering etc. You will work closely with the local people from the association! There is a plan for the build-up of the festival, nevertheless the schedule will be adapted to the always changing logistics of the event and you are expected to be flexible, patient and work autonomously within this plan. Volunteers should be prepared to work long and unusual hours, but also have some time between their shifts, which can be used to explore the festival and enjoy the music! Speaking or understanding basic German will be a plus!
The local association Waldstock e.V. (https://waldstock.de/) promotes local youth activities in the small town of Pegnitz. Its members are very motivated and involved in organizing projects like concerts, film festivals or soccer cups. For more than 20 years, they have been coordinating the “Waldstock” festival, a so called “Umsonst und Draussen” - festival (“outside & free of charge”), which has become an important part of the cultural life in the town of Pegnitz and the region. Since 2013 the festival is supported by a small group of international Workcamp volunteers, who can enjoy the truly unique experience of becoming a part of the busy festival team. Here you can find a sneak peek on last years’ festival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gst3Wuj6is4 .
Pegnitz is a small town in Franconia, Bavaria, near Nuremberg. You can find medieval and historic buildings and churches in the centre of the city. The city is known for its beers: it has a long tradition in brewery and the locals are very proud of it. The Bavarian region, in which Pegnitz is located, is called “Little Switzerland” due to its beautiful surrounding that invites extended adventures and hiking trips in the region. There are all kinds of trails and possibilities to experience the unique nature.
You will stay at the local brewery! It is a small and very basic accommodation not far from the festival site that does not provide much comfort, but a very unique charm. You will all sleep in a big room at the brewery, usually used for concerts, and sleep on camp beds. Bear in mind that there will usually be a lot of people walking around and making noise from early in the morning to have everything ready for the festival! The final ceremony afterwards for all the helpers of the festival will also take place there. During the festival food will be provided by the food stands throughout the day.
We ask for a motivation letter to be sent with the application!
How to arrive at Pegnitz station: from Nuremberg main station 37 minutes via regional train (RE) to Bayreuth. From Pegnitz station it is only about 1 km to walk to the brewery: https://goo.gl/maps/GVscNqPkSMGtjt2V6

Needless to say, in order for the Festival to be a life-enhancing and indeed for some a life-transforming experience, much hard work is required. From the day we arrive in an empty field with a small vanguard, our numbers gradually swell until we have around eight hundred volunteers welcoming the three thousand visitors. The set-up crew erect the structures that will act as kitchens and venues. They establish the infrastructure such as plumbing, compost toilets, showers and saunas. They make the site beautiful and safe with flags, bunting, paths, fences and lighting. Then during the Festival we have stewards to welcome and guide festival goers, to manage parking and traffic and to attend to people's well-being. Toilet wizards maintain the compost toilets. A team of recyclers sorts materials so as to minimize landfill. The kitchen crew feed volunteers and festival goers alike. The site crew look after the infrastructure, tents, water etc. During the set-up phase, volunteers will get one day off and during the festival two days either as full days or half days, depending on the needs of the particular teams. VAP volunteers will be invited to work in one of a number of areas before and during the festival, for example: the Healing area, the Buddhafield cafe, site crew, recycling and ‘toilet wizards’, décor, welcome and departure teams. During the Festival the volunteers will have work shifts, but will also have time to enjoy the huge variety of events taking place and facilities available as outlined above. Volunteers are asked to attend daily morning meetings, the exact time depending on what area of work they choose to join. The work is very team-based. The whole enterprise runs on goodwill, awareness of each others’ needs, good communication and mutual support. During set-up and take-down there will be organised events around Buddhist themes, attendance at which is completely voluntary. There are generally also alternatives such as spontaneous musical gatherings, often around a fire. They will also have someone on site who is their direct contact for support and pastoral care. They will meet as a group together each day.
BACKGROUND: Buddhafield (www.buddhafield.com) is an English Buddhist collective that is part of the international Buddhist movement, the Triratna Buddhist Community (http://thebuddhistcentre.com). Buddhafield emerged out of the coming together of Buddhism and ecological awareness in the 1990s. Buddhafield is inspired by the ideal of living and working more simply and kindly in a community informed by awareness of our interconnections with each other and with nature. We run a programme of camping activities in the South West of England and own two beautiful pieces of land, which we are committed to managing sustainably and which we use for several events each year (not the Festival itself). We are perhaps best known for organising the much-loved Buddhafield Festival, now in its 22nd year, and for the Buddhafield Café, which provides vegan food at festivals like the Glastonbury Festival. ============= THE FESTIVAL: The Buddhafield Festival is held over five days, on a beautiful site in the Blackdown Hills, in Somerset, England. The event brings together around three thousand people for a sharing and celebration of alternative social, cultural, political and spiritual values. The mix of activities around Buddhist, environmental, healing and social change themes together with general festival attractions such as singing, dance, yoga, drumming, live music, comedy, craftwork, chai cafes, saunas, hot tubs and a huge range of activities for children, attracts a wide range of festival goers. The feedback we get is that for many the event is a reminder that a more positive and kind alternative to conventional competitive and environmentally damaging ways of living is possible. In keeping with the Festival's Buddhist ethos the event is a drug and alcohol-free zone.
TRAVEL TO BUDDHAFIELD: The Festival site is in remote countryside, with only two buses per day going near the site. A member of the Buddhafield team will meet people at the Taunton train station and help them get to the site. If you want to travel with a team member it is important that you arrive at Taunton train station not later than 16:45 on July 9th, where we will meet you at the upper exit by platform 2! ========= Train: The nearest station is Taunton. Journeys take about 2 hours from London or Birmingham, 1 hour from Bristol and 30 minutes from Exeter. ========= Coach (Bus): Taunton is about 4 hours from London and 1 hour from Bristol. National Express run regular services to Taunton. See www.nationalexpress.com. If you could try and arrange your travel from Taunton after 11am that would enable us to take you to the bus or train station.
Volunteers should bring their own tents, sleeping bag, sleeping mat and everything you would need for a camping trip. Weather can be range from very hot in the sun to very cold at night, so please bring plenty of blankets as well as sun cream, warm-weather clothes and proper waterproof jackets and trousers. Showers and toilet facilities are outdoors and though cleaner and better cared for than other festivals, they are outdoors and basic. Buddhafield will provide 100% vegan food and hot drinks and snacks are available throughout the day. If you need animal products, you will have to bring with you a supply of food that does not need refrigeration.

Take part in the new edition of the famous Frays'Toch festival, a popular education event! As every year, the Frayse Domain organises a festival which highlights all types of art, from local music to international music, from theatre to pyrotechnics! The workcamp will consist in preparing, animating and closing the new edition of this summer event which is a must for young and old people! Your tasks will be varied: you will be part of the communication team before the start of the festival, help with the setting up and dismantling of the festival’s structure, the decorating of the festival areas, but also organise workshops on different topics such as interculturality or art.
Concordia has been in partnership for several years with the UFCV (French Union of Holiday Center) association. The UFCV manages a leisure and holiday centre at the Frayse Domain: the former vineyard has a magnificent 24 hectare park with various sports areas, an educational farm and a vegetable garden gathering people from all ages. For several years now, the Frayse Domain has been hosting one of the most singular youth festival in New Aquitaine: The Frayse'Toch #educpop is an eco-citizen and solidarity festival, on which Concordia volunteers will once again fully be a part of the festival's preparation, animation and closing team. For more info visit: https://www.facebook.com/fraysetoch/
Located 15 km from Bordeaux at Fargues-Saint-Hilaire, Domaine de la Frayse is at the gateway to the Entre-Deux-Mers region. This region known for its vineyards is located between the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers. Marmande and Langon are to the south, Bordeaux to the west, Libourne to the north and Bergerac to the east. The Entre-Deux-Mers is a region rich in fortified towns and Romanesque churches; you will be charmed by ancient cities, mills and other castles.
You will be accommodated in individual tents and a shared room will be available for cooking and group activities. You will have access to toilets and shower near the campsite. Wifi is available on site, and your laundry is washed by hand. The park will provide you with outdoor spaces to enjoy your free time in the sun. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities in and around the domain in nature. For more info visit: http://www.domaine-de-la-frayse.fr/.
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for them personally, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country. This project is supported by the program European Solidarity Corps (ESC) for young people between 18 and 30 years. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria. The participation to the ESC volunteering teams is subjects to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en - Volunteers do not have to pay any fee (no sending fee or participation fee) to attend the project and will receive a financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established in accordance with their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets; - Volunteers need to enrol in the PASS, the ESC Portal; then Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project; - Volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on basis of 6€/day, once they arrive on the project in France; - Volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal
The meeting point will be at Bordeaux - Saint-Jean train station, exit #3 named “Belcier”, on the 10th of July in the late afternoon. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the infosheet, which will be sent 4 weeks before the beginning of the workcamp. Regular trains leave from Paris - Montparnasse train station to Bordeaux - Saint-Jean, usually there is one train per hour. The journey lasts from 2 to 3 hours. If possible, please consider using low-carbon emissions transportation (train and bus rather than aeroplane) for a sustainable international workcamp. Workcamp participants are invited to work in different fields: manual, artistically, pedagogical. During the youth camps, you will communicate with kids from diverse backgrounds and join their activities as well. You will support the camp in logistic areas and support the construction and decoration of an artistic project called “the archive of dreams” connected with the World Prayer Day Project (www.weltgebetstag.de ). It would be helpful to prepare to offer your own workshop whether artistically, musically or athletically in advance and bring many new inspiring ideas. In addition, all volunteers will have the chance to introduce their countries. You should collect ideas at home and bring necessary materials for a creative presentation including pictures, food, games, or other typical things from your countries. Further information will be prepared after the placement in the workcamp. Besides the announced activities, the volunteers will also need to take responsibility by leading groups of young campers in daily works like catering and cleaning.
The „Himmelsfels“ (Heavens rock) in Spangenberg is the territory that occupies 8 hectares. In Himmelsfels there are so-called embassies, i.e caravans that have been modified artistically to be tiny houses for German and international guests of the Himmelsfels. Every year in Himmelsfels there are events dedicated to art, culture, Christian gospel music and youth Encounter. This summer season, there will be three international youth camps comprising about 80 – 150 young people from various countries. The volunteers will help to enrich the current youth camps by becoming part of our international staff, by supporting the activities for the youth and the infrastructure of the camps. The program will take place on the “Himmelsfels” itself. The “Himmelsfels” foundation is a Christian organization, which aims: to develop spaces for intercultural and ecumenical exploration, as well as to motivate people for a life characterized by equality and common values. The project targets especially young people who support and are eager to join the community of Christian spirituality. For more information, please visit the website: http://www.himmelsfels.de/ The study part of this workcamp will be dominated mostly by the question about life between past and future, tradition and modernity, small-town-life and global correlations. Working on the “Himmelsfels“ always encourages encounters between people from different cultures and diverse background.
